CrossFire issues edit

{{helpme}} I was wondering why I couldn't link my image to an Infobox VG of the page CrossFire (online PC game). The image was uploaded onto Wikimedia Commons, and when I input the file name of this image to the right place in the infobox, it displayed the file name anyway when I previewed. Was it something about image licensing that resulted in what I said??? Ccyber5 (talk) 08:16, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it was probably deleted. Commons can only accept images that are free to use - a screenshot of a commercial game is not free to use and so it was deleted. Tombomp (talk/contribs) 08:22, 3 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Sdsz logo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Sdsz logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. File source problem with File:No.1 shs urumqi 1930s.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:No.1 shs urumqi 1930s.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 05:17, 1 November 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 05:17, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Self-created image" edit

Are you the original creator of the derived images? If not, then although you have created the image found at File:WLMQ Cellphone screenshots 2v1.jpg, you would not hold copyright for it, as it would be a derivative work of someone else's. Therefore, in that case you would not have the authority to release it under public domain as you have. If you are the original creator, then you by all means may - were the images taken by yourself? I was only curious as there was no EXIF data from the JPEG file, my apologies if there have been any misunderstandings. Regards, -- 李博杰  | Talk contribs email 08:35, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for providing this, Ccyber. I don't know much about video uploading myself, but there are instructions for installing the Ogg Theora software at Wikipedia:Media help (Ogg) and for creating and uploading the video file at Wikipedia:Creation and usage of media files. People at the Graphic Labs may also be able to help, although I'm not sure about that.
Also, if you are interested in uploading the video, you should probably change the licensing on the flickr file to remove the "noncommercial" and "no derivative works" tags. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 15:02, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:27, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Urumqi UTV logo.svg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Urumqi UTV logo.svg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:02, 23 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Tokyo Massacre poster.png edit

A tag has been placed on File:Tokyo Massacre poster.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay.
