Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Pflassistant. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Priests for Life, you may have a conflict of interest. People with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, see the conflict of interest guideline and frequently asked questions for organizations. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, its competitors, or projects and products you or they are involved with;
  • instead, propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use requires:

  • Disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.
  • No contribution of content that violates conflict of interest laws, specifically but not limited to editors under the jurisdiction of European Union Unfair Commercial Practices Directive law.

Editors who are compensated for their contributions should make the disclosure by placing the {{connected contributor (paid)}} template at the top of the talk page of affected articles and filling in the parameters. They should also supply this information as part of a list on their user page of all their paid contributions.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing, and autobiographies. Thank you. Elizium23 (talk) 03:04, 30 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Request reason:

Hello OrangeMike, I am writing to appeal the this block imposed on this account. I was asked by Fr. Pavone, Priest for Life's Executive Director, to implement and optimize the Wikipedia Pages by disseminating some of the information on our main website to the body of the page. I have not read the full guidelines up until now and will continue to read the guidelines if you would choose to unblock this account. If chosen to be unblocked, I will make a more concerted effort to include the information unbiased and accurate. My changes to the Priests for Life page and all associated organizations and persons will simply be information from their main websites and will not be used for marketing/promotional gains. The information I was to add on the site could be found on these pages: http://www.priestsforlife.org/intro/introbrochure.html http://www.priestsforlife.org/generalpfl/pflhist.html Thank you and I hope to hear back soon.

Decline reason:

You will have to use the other template for requesting unblock, and suggest a new name (after reading WP:USERNAME). Your current name suggests a position at an organisation, and that is not acceptable. Peridon (talk) 10:06, 2 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Hello OrangeMike, I am writing to appeal the this block imposed on this account. I was asked by Fr. Pavone, Priest for Life's Executive Director, to implement small changes to the Wikipedia Pages by communicating some of the information on our main website to the body of the page. I will also be sure to site all new information when written. The information I was to add on the site could be found on these pages: http://www.priestsforlife.org/intro/introbrochure.html http://www.priestsforlife.org/generalpfl/pflhist.html Thank you and I hope to hear back soon.

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. Go for Simple. Peridon (talk) 11:10, 5 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to suggest you edit that request with another name. You could be 'Herbert at PFL' (or whoever if you're not Herbert...) or something like 'The Greatest Ethelred' (even if you're not), but Pavone is someone else, according to your request. Just change the suggested name in the edit window and click Preview (so you can use the 'availability' feature), then save again. Peridon (talk) 18:29, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
Please be aware that 'optimising' is not a popular word here. It implies turning things into PR pieces, which is not the function of an encyclopaedia. You will not be able to prevent skeletons in the closet (if there are any) from rattling so long as they are reliably referenced. Unlike Facebook and LinkedIn, Wikipedia is 'warts and all'. You also cannot copy and paste from the PFL website as it is copyright and therefore incompatible with Wikipedia's licensing under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the GFDL. Thank you for your help, Peridon.
