Speedy deletion of EICASLAB edit

A tag has been placed on EICASLAB, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read our the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. January 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from pages that you have created yourself, as you did with EICASLAB. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, then please place {{hangon}} on the page (please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag) and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Mayalld (talk) 15:16, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of EICAS Automazione S.p.A. edit

A tag has been placed on EICAS Automazione S.p.A. requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

Mayalld (talk) 15:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with EICAS Automazione S.p.A.. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion. Thank you. Mayalld (talk) 15:24, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of EICASLAB edit

An editor has nominated EICASLAB, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/EICASLAB and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:14, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

EICASLAB edit

Hi Gabriella!

Wikipedia policy on spam and advertising, especially this section suggests Don't make a new article for your own product or Web site. This is because of possible conflict of interest, defined as Where an editor must forego advancing the aims of Wikipedia in order to advance outside interests, that editor stands in a conflict of interest. Basically, your edits so far have been seen as intending to promote EICASLAB rather than to promote Wikipedia. It's understandable that as a director of your own company you would want to promote your own product, however, that stands in conflict of what editors on Wikipedia should be doing - developing Wikipedia. One of the things that I have a problem with is the main EICASLAB website itself [1] because of the fact that a Wikipedia user who clicks that link to read more about your company might not be able to leave the site by clicking the BACK button (try it yourself and see what happens). That can be very disruptive to a user who may not know how to circumvent this loop. Overall, the article and the EICASLAB website leave an impression of self-promotion and I nominated it for deletion because I felt that the article would have to be completely re-written to adhere to Wikipedia policies as well as that the external link to the official website is innapropriate because of the way it manipulates a potential visitor. Hello again!
I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by your willingness to conform to Wikipedia policies and it seems as though you are being forthcoming in trying to make the article worthy of an encyclopedia. The fact that you are the director of the company in question does not absolutely disqualify you from being an editor on the subject. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that anyone can edit so long as they follow the major rules of editing. I will withdraw my nomination of deletion of your article since I no longer think it is blatant advertising but an informative article on an important subject.
Keep up the good work.
Peace! SWik78 (talk) 16:55, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for contributing. And fell free to ask me any questions you might have about editing, I will be more than happy to help if I can.
I would just like to make one suggestion to you. I see that you are being responsible and signing all your comments by adding four tildes (~~~~). Not everyone does it as diligently as you do so thank you for that. It would, however, look a little better if you would sign your comments and add the four tildes at the end of your comment instead of the beginning. That's all.
Happy editing! SWik78 (talk) 19:13, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Advertising tag on EICASLAB edit

Hello again, Gabriella!

First of all, I'm glad to see that you are still involved in this whole thing. Yes, I see that the article has been tagged as an advertisement but that is not usually an indication that it will be deleted, it's more of a cleanup template that alerts editors to improve the style of writing. The article has been greatly improved from the first time that I nominated it for deletion but I must admit that there are some parts that do sound a little bit like it was written by someone who created something and is proud of it (not that there's anything wrong with being proud of your work but it's not very encyclopedic to do so). For example, the line:

EICASLAB assists all phases of the design process of the control strategy: from system concept to generation of the control software code for the final target.

can give a reader the impression that you're trying to "pump up" your product. That's the conflict of interest that I was telling you about earlier and, judging by your suggestion that you maybe shouldn't edit the article, it seems as though you fully understand it. It's hard for a person to write about a commercial product that they developed without "bragging" about it just a little bit just like it would be hard for a mother to write an article about her only son without bragging about "what a good boy he is". I think the main thing that I could suggest to you is to go through the article and remove any instances of mentioning why the product is good and what it can do for it's potential user and rather focus objectively on what the product does. I know this may sound a little vague and, perhaps, not really helpful but I must admit that the article's tone is technical enough for me to not be able to give you more specific information than that.
Maybe you can give the article on MATLAB a quick glance just to kind of get the idea of what I'm trying to say. You'll see that there is no expressed opinion about the ability of the product, just the straight facts with some history on the development. Another thing that you might find in a large majority of articles about computers and technology, just like you will find in MATLAB, is a section on the product's limitations, drawbacks and criticism because, let's face it, every single piece of technology ever built had some sort of a bug that people didn't like. You can tell us what that bug is with EICASLAB. Now, this is where conflict of interest comes into play. You, as the someone with very close ties to the project and someone who wants to see it succeed financially, might think it irresponsible to write about the negative things because it would probably not be good for the company that pays you to develop the product.
Overall though, the article is written fairly well with only a few things that can be touched up. If you want, you can remove some statements that serve to make EICASLAB look good and leave only facts and you can also enlighten a potential reader on what the limitiations of that system might be. I don't think it will be listed for deletion because there is too much useful information that would be lost if that happenned. And, trust me, no one has any problems with you contributing to this article as long as you can stay neutral when writing about it.
I hope this helps. Thanks for writing and let me know if you have more questions.
Peace! SWik78 (talk) 15:34, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Gabriella, I tagged EICASLAB with the "advertising" tag because I was concerned about the tone used in the article, a bit of promotional tone, that is. For instance, the lead section read "EICASLAB was equipped with an “automated algorithm and code generation” software engine [6], that allows to obtain a control algorithm in an easy and friendly way, freeing the designer from the need of a deep knowledge of the theory the methodology and the tool are based upon."' — "easy", "friendly" are opinions, not facts (see WP:NPOV), unless there are sources/reviewers confirming the materials, in that case you need to quote them. The article goes so much into details (saying how useful the tool is) that it seems to be effectively promoting the subject. Please consider some other encyclopedic materials (if available), like the background/development of the tool, how it is received by the public, professional reviews (positive and negative). I noticed the article had been improved; your edits certainly helped, so keep up the good work. :) Please see also Wikipedia:Make technical articles accessible, since as an average outside reader, I found it a bit tough to get a handle on the info written there (but then I'm totally ignorant about the subject). Take care, --PeaceNT (talk) 11:49, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
