Remark42, Text removed

Hi, regarding Remark42 - if you have strong reason to suspect a violation of copyright policy and some, but not all, of the content of a page appears to be a copyright infringement, then the infringing content should be removed with the source url in the edit summary if possible. Revision deletion should then be requested by placing {{copyvio-revdel}} on the article page or directly contacting an administrator on their talk page. Administrators may at their discretion unilaterally revision delete copyrighted content. A note explaining the removal may also be made on the discussion page, along with the original source, if known. {{subst:Cclean|url=insert URL or description of source here (optional)}} has been created for this. If the copyright holder's permission is later obtained, the text may be restored. See here WP:DCV. CommanderWaterford (talk) 21:08, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

Humour

This section was written by User:Canadian Otaku, I hope you enjoy it as much as I (Tsugaru) did!

  • If you edit Wikipedia around 1-5 AM, beware, as any admin could block you for being up too late!
  • It's really easy to break Wikipedia, just click here.
  • Ignore people telling you to stop putting "Hrrnngg,,,beans" on the article Bean (film), they don't know what good edits are.
  • Jimbo is god, and can do anything he wants to!

Notes

  • There are 2 new editors now, one of them Berrely, and CanadianOtaku. As mentioned Berrely is our new proofreader (typos beware) and Canadian Otaku is now going to be writing our Humor sections, I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for joining us, and remember, if you want to join, just let me know!

Genozip AfD

Hi @CanadianOtaku:, regarding the AfD of Genozip - I have added some more sources - this article has now a total of 6 secondary sources in a addition to 2 primary sources. The secondary sources include three review articles specifically about this software (in English, Japanese and Korean) and three academic papers about other compression tools, that benchmark against this software. Can you take another look? Thanks, appreciate your time. Jokerman71 (talk) 23:23, 21 March 2021 (UTC)

Notifying myself

Please read this notification carefully, it contains important information about an administrative situation on Wikipedia. It does not imply any misconduct regarding your own contributions to date.

A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the blockchain and cryptocurrencies. The details of these sanctions are described here. All pages that are broadly related to these topics are subject to a one revert per twenty-four hours restriction, as described here.

General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

Tip of the Month

This tip is one of the many ways to combat spam on Wikipedia:

  • On Wikipedia, articles either meet the General Notability Guideline or not. When you come across a new article, it is extremely important to determine if it is a real article, or just a spam article. Start with a search on Google, for reliable sources, if you get none in return, then look at the article for non-NPOV content, also scan the references section in the article to see what sources it uses, and check the 'other languages' section and Wikidata to see if it is on other Wikipedias. If other Wikipedias have the same content and/or a CSD or AfD tag (WP:AFD) it is likely spam or not notable, so you can then nominate it for deletion to get input, remember that CSD criterion does not always apply to these articles depending on the content/contex. Also remember to check for copyright violations via earwig's

Your submission at Articles for creation: Cryptojacking has been accepted

Cryptojacking, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions.

The article has been assessed as Stub-Class, which is recorded on its talk page. It is commonplace for new articles to start out as stubs and then attain higher grades as they develop over time. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

Since you have made at least 10 edits over more than four days, you can now create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for creation if you prefer.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation.

If you would like to help us improve this process, please consider leaving us some feedback.

Thanks again, and happy editing!

Thoughts on removal of Jokes section on Gentoo Linux page

Hi CanadianOtaku,

You seem to edit Wikipedia more than myself. As far as I can tell, the recent edits on Gentoo_Linux to remove the practical jokes section do not fall under notability guidelines... The article itself does, but not the contents therein. I'd like to see the Jokes section stay in the article and have been providing sources to upstream (gentoo.org) references, but apparently this is not enough to satisfy the one user who keeps undoing my edits. The best argument I can see for undoing my edits would fall under the principal of Due and undue weight, although these seem somewhat hard to see exactly how they apply to citing facts. Gentoo coverage in academic articles and more generally the news is pretty slim as is, so it's challenging to find "third party reports". Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you! --Maffblaster (talk) 20:38, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
