WikiProject WS

Just letting you know I have created a userbox for WikiProject Writing Systems at Template:User WikiProject WS. It looks like this:

Just add {{User WikiProject WS}} to your userpage.--The ikiroid (talk)(Help Me Improve) 22:15, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

BTW any questions or comments should be directed to the project's talkpage, as I will be spamming this message to all current members. Thanx!--The ikiroid (talk)(Help Me Improve) 22:18, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, Irikoid. However, that WikiProject has been rather moribund for several months now, and I've personally not been doing much (or indeed, anything) related to it for a while- but I may indeed recommence some activity there, particularly if there are other editors now showing interest in it.--cjllw | TALK 23:36, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Persian people#History

Could you take a look at the first sentence in this section? It claims that Persians are descendants of some "Aryan tribes" migrating from Central Asia. Sounds like outdated racial theories to me. The same source (Britannica) says Persians are of mixed ancentry, but when I try to add this in people remove it. I don't think this is consistent with WP:NPOV. Could you take a look at this and leave a comment? Thanks, AucamanTalk 06:44, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

OK, thanks, I'll take a look into it when I get a chance - it may be a little while, though.--cjllw | TALK 07:22, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
No problem, we all have our priorities. AucamanTalk 07:26, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Category:Municipalities in Seville

Can you fix the [[Category:Municipalities in Sevilla]] to [[Category:Municipalities in Seville]]? The English name is Seville not Sevilla. Thanks, --Asterion talk to me 22:30, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi Asterion, in setting up that category, I was following the name currently applied to the article on the province itself, which is Sevilla (province). Perhaps it should be changed to Seville, but it would then make sense to do so for the province article as well. What do you think? Curiously, the article on the city is at Seville. (replying also on your talk page).--cjllw | TALK 23:27, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Aha! Yes, indeed! It sould be moved to Seville (province) and fix anu\y double redirect. Thanks again, --Asterion talk to me 23:36, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

Use of Pre-Columbian template on articles

Please read the Wikipedia:WikiProject Aztec/Strategy page for explanation of this issue and share your thoughts on this topic. Thanx.

New ebooks at Project Gutenberg of Australia

Hi,

We recently posted an article on Willem Janszoon and the first Discovery of Australia by T D Mutch and Abel Tasman's Journal and Life by edited by J E Heeres (a rare book). You can access these ebooks and other ebooks relevant to Australia's early maritime history from the [Australian Discovery page]

Regards

Col Choat

Project Gutenberg of Australia 20 May 2006

Hi Col, thanks for the notification. I'm afraid I haven't been doing much in the field of Dutch exploration in Australia recently, but when I get the time I will surely look up that reference. Most valuable, as always! Cheers, --cjllw | TALK 05:36, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:13, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Help for template

Hi, this is the ikiroid again, trying to scout out help for Wikipedia:WikiProject Writing systems. I'm looking for anyone who can help contribute to Template:Infobox Writing system. It's an esoteric sort of template, copied from Template:Infobox Language that now needs to be revised for writing system pages. All ideas and comments about it should be directed to Template talk:Infobox Writing system. Contact me with any questions or comments. Thanks!--The ikiroid (talk)(Help Me Improve) 21:51, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Ikiroid, I'll take a look and see if there are any suggestions I can offer.--cjllw | TALK 23:09, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Indigenous?

Looking at the question of indigenous peoples is intriguing from a secular point of view, however looking at it from a 'religious' or occupational point of view is something else.

Where are Puritans indigenous and how about criminal activities like, drugs dealers, junkies, brothel owners pornographers, insane, etc.

A look at the dictionary should confirm that many of the words in current use are really not desirable. E.G. Rape, murder, theft, drugs, war ... religion.

Research into crime would reveal a LOT that is not OK with this world.

The way I read the Bible there should only be 5000 true 'Christians', for example.

Expert, textpert, choking smokers, don't you know the JOKER laughs at you?

I'll have a look at the criminology section after this.

Well, it's been said that a little learning is a dangerous thing, but no matter. The mugwumps are afoot, and there are trolls at the bottom of the garden, or so it seems. I do however forget what they prefer to eat.--cjllw | TALK 14:12, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Fish and worms in all probability.

Blnguyen's RfA

File:Atlanticpuffin4.jpg Hello CJLL Wright. Thank you for your gracious support at request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. I'm rather surprised how many Australians made an occasional visit despite not having interacted directly in the past. If you need any admin assistance, feel free to ask me, and naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out and I look forward to working with you in the future, Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 06:34, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
No problem, Blnguyen, a well-deserved outcome- a cracking ton, no false strokes in that innings...! See you around, and cheers--cjllw | TALK 14:04, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Categories for deletion: Aircraft by country

Could I ask you to look at this one again please? The "Ships by country" category mentioned as a comparison is used to classify ships by the country of their operation. These aircraft categories are not used in this way, they are for the country of original manufacture. I think the change to Aircraft of Foo is going to alter the meaning of the category, i.e. from "Aircraft manufactured in Foo" to "Aircraft used in Foo". This would change the nature of the category entirely, and in many cases mean dozens of additional categories on each article. JW 22:14, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the notification, JW, and I've reconsidered my support there and commented on the new proposal: some clarifications are requested.--cjllw | TALK 00:20, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
