June 2013 edit

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Oliver North may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • Justice Fail or Prevail?" Duke University Law Center on Law, Ethics, and National Security (reprinted from ''Michigan Law Review''1998</ref>North was promoted to [[Captain (U.S. Marine Corps)|

Tank Man Photo edit

On my blog I used a photo taken by Stuart Franklin to illustrate an article on the Tank Man of Beijing. This photo, with a credit to my blog, was used in the Wikipedia article "Tank Man". I received a request from Franklin to take the photo down from my blog, which I did. I also removed it from the Wikipedia page. Someone replaced it, still crediting my blog. This is bad form. First of all, there is a copyright problem with using this photo. Second, the link to my blog no longer links to the photo. Third, using my name on the disputed photo makes for bad blood between me and Stuart Franklin. (Careless reading of the History led me to think that a mod was resposible for this -- not so. Entry edited to reflect that.)CCBC (talk) 09:14, 24 May 2014 (UTC)TJRC has restored the photo and removed the link to my blog. That's fine for me, but does not answer the question of copyright violation.CCBC (talk) 00:45, 25 May 2014 (UTC) More on this. Stuart Franklin says that the photo is not his. He has supplied a photo of his own to replace it which I have done. Here is an excerpt from the e-mail Franklin sent to Wikipedia: I am a Magnum photographer. What you have on your Tank Man page is a less successful image by Widener and an image credited to me but not taken by me (below). I don't don't know who took this picture but it needs to be taken down. ...you will see below the pictures I did take relating to this page that would be more suitable and they can be used provided they are not stolen for commercial use or gain.CCBC (talk) 06:30, 31 May 2014 (UTC) At the request of Stuart Franklin's agent I have edited the file entry on the original photo to remove Franklin's name and I have removed a link to my blog as source, which it no longer is. Now the photo file name should be edited to also remove Franklin's name, I think, and I have remarked on this elsewhere. If no one else changes it, then I will have a go.
