Good analysis of 'stress' and CFS

Hi Bricker, I saw your comments on the issue of stress and CFS on the CFS talk page and just wanted to say well done and thank you for such a salient analysis, which clarified some of more burning questions I've had about the HPA dysfunction claims. I also don't know if you are aware of this observation about 'hysteria' from Eliot Slater in 1965:

"“Unfortunately we have to recognise that trouble, discord, anxiety and frustration are so prevalent at all stages of life that their mere occurrence near to the time of onset of an illness does not mean very much.” Eliot Slater, “Diagnosis of ‘Hysteria’ British Medical Journal, 29 May 1965 p 1399.

Anti-oxidants

Hi Bricker, don't know whether you are around at present! but that was a good reference on fatigue you left me with, and hope you do not miond me qouting you in the discussion. A certain editor is reverting edits regarding anti-oxidants in CFS on spurious grounds. Firstly as unreliable source here which I had overturned on the WP RSN here, and now as Fringe theory, which I sure could be easily overturned, as the hypothesis is and in some cases has been tested. Rather than continue his edit war I have posted a Discussion on anti-oxidants and seek a consensus on the Talk page for an replacement section. Jagra 03:29, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Agree and nice work on Overtraining and Alt med. You may find this interesting [`http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/564867?src=rss] Sleep deprivation and emotional instability "This is the first set of experiments that demonstrate that even healthy people's brains mimic certain pathological psychiatric patterns when deprived of sleep." Don't take this the wrong way, it has nothing to do with you or anybody else, but I haven't decided yet if I want to do the private email discussions thing. It is one issue I probably agree with Sciencewatcher about, that all the editorial discussion about Wikipedia content should take place in public. It is a close call, there are legit pros and cons, and I am still considering it.

And the sleep study you cited above is pretty interesting. There has of course been some work before on the effects of sleep deprivation, and this one extends that further. I do think that some of the symptoms, or at least their degree, in ME/CFS might be explained as a consequence of chronic sleep problems. But I also think that sleep problems are secondary to the main pathology. Bricker (talk) 03:02, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Yep sleep problems a consequence of hyper response and changes to signal messengers and immune factors. The catch being that antioxidants can improve some symptoms but may worsen sleep. Due to tropical low pressure sytems interfering with my wireless link I have not been able to access Wikipedia at all for last 3 days, so not on deck reliably at present and much happening, Jagra (talk) 10:52, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
