Unspecified source for Image:BBC_satellite_regions.png

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BBC_satellite_regions.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:39, 30 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 (talk) 15:39, 30 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Windows vista arabic.png

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Windows vista arabic.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Coughs and sneezes spread diseases.png)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Coughs and sneezes spread diseases.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:33, 19 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Template:ITV1

edit

A tag has been placed on Template:ITV1 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Image permission problem with Image:Oracle data organisation.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Oracle data organisation.jpg, which you've sourced to This is Oracle, IBA Engineering, Issue 2, EIS/80. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Thamesvalley2.png.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Rlandmann (talk) 21:47, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Briantist. The problem is that this image is cropped from an image published here, at the source that you have named. There's no indication on that website that its contents are available under a free license, and as things stand, Wikipedia has no evidence that you and the creator of that image are one-and-the-same, or what your relationship with ukfree.tv might be.
There are two ways to clear the copyright on this and the other ukfree.tv images that you have uploaded: either include a notice on the site (either covering the entire site, or just specific pictures on it) are available under a free licence (such as GFDL or CC-BY), or send an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org from a ukfree.tv address, indicating that you are the sole copyright owner of the images and that you are willing to release them under a free licence. You can find a model for the permission required here. Hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any further questions about this. --Rlandmann (talk) 22:21, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

TV region maps - and other content from ukfree.tv

edit

In regard to TV region maps on English Wikipedia, could you if you are the site owner of ukfree.tv lodge an approriate permission with the Wikimedia authorities via the permissons queue in OTRS. (see WP:COPYREQ )

Marking the images as PD-Self is fine, but it would be nice to confirm this so that the contributors flagging up images can be SURE thier legal :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:36, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please see [1] , Thanks for respondingSfan00 IMG (talk) 22:01, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I haven't removed Pd-self tags myself, if they have been by others, that's probably a mistake
What has happened to some of the images is as follows :-
  • Some images from ukfree.tv have been flagged for the attention of WP:PUI, Subsquent to this it became apparent that you,

and the maintainer of the ukfree.tv site might be one and the same, hence the request that you filed a permission with the OTRS permissions queue. To give permission, or release the images, it is simple as sending a semi-formally worded letter to the address listed on WP:COPYREQ and WP:OTRS, givin list of the images released, and under what 'free' licenses. if you need a hand please ask for it in the relevant section on the WP:PUI disscusion.

  • Other images where the licence/copyright status seemed clearer (such as some photos) were flagged for being moved to Wikimedia

Commons, a media respoitry. 'Free' images are better hosted on commons because they can then be used by all kinds of project and not just Wikipedia. Wikipedia doesn't however take material which isn't under free licences, hence the need to check the status of images.

The intention is once the permission for the images currently in the WP:PUI process is confirmed, they can be moved to Commons.

I seriously suggest you ask for assistance in the releavnt section on WP:PUI, as the admins (which I am not) there, are able to advise more effectivly then I can. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:14, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:Art of Noise Interview on Breakfast Time.ogg

edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Art of Noise Interview on Breakfast Time.ogg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Removal of warning tags from ukfree.tv images

edit

Hi Briantist - I note that you've now removed the warning tags from these images; have you received a reply from OTRS or added a free licence notice to the ukfree.tv website yet? If not, the tags should stay in place until one of those two things happen.

Secondly, could you please tell me how the map images were created? Are they tracings (by hand or digital) of existing maps of Britain? Or were they generated with some kind of "digital globe" software? Or something else? In any case, the source of the maps needs to be acknowledged. --Rlandmann (talk) 23:24, 11 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fenchurch from TV Series.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Fenchurch from TV Series.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:15, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi mate, just wanted to say great job on the diagram of London Overground as a circle. Brilliant idea - really makes the Orbirail concept seem for real. TfL should adopt it!

Nice idea on this. However, i can see quite a few mistakes with File:London Overground as a circle.svg. The Stratford part is continuous with the rest of the line on the North London Line and should not be shown separate not separate to Highbury. Probably only the proposed\under construction lines should be in the lighter shade of orange otherwise the whole lot should only be in LO orange. Harlesden has a different station marker to the rest. Also, it duplicates your other version File:London Overground as a circle 2007-2010.svg

The Clapham Junction to Surrey Quays branch has been approved so this needs to be added (plus the new station of Surrey Canal Road). Brockley has a c in it. And finally Blackhorse Road does not interchange with other National Rail services. Simplysouth is this a buffet? 19:26, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Swine flu map from live data.png

edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Swine flu map from live data.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. B (talk) 12:06, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:BBC satellite regions.png

edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:BBC satellite regions.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. File source problem with File:Windows vista french.png

edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Windows vista french.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:27, 31 July 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. –Drilnoth (T • C • L) 02:27, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Differences in versions of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Differences in versions of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Differences in versions of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:11, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Sigue Sigue Sputnik Logo.png

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Sigue Sigue Sputnik Logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 23:54, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Briantist! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 873 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Proposed deletion of Andy Barnes

edit

The article Andy Barnes has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced BLP.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Unitasock (talk) 01:26, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
