Want to update reference whose link has changed.

Dear Chris,

Today, I noticed that a link had been changed so that it is not interactive anymore. When I logged in with my user name, the message said I didn't exist. What gives?

Change reference link

Dear Chris,

I looked through all the interactive words and cannot find the template for reference any longer. Specifically, reference #25 has changed from http://www.texascityattorneys.org/2011speakerpapers/rileyfletcher/typescities-update2009-CDAdams.pdf to http://222.tml.org/legal-pdf/TypesofCities2012.pdf Where's the template to do this?

Glad to see you return. Use {{Cite web}}. It has a switch "type=pdf" that will flag the link as leading to an Adobe document.

Also, if you want to mess around with javascript, try User:Dispenser/Reflinks. Reflinks will let you drop a bare URL like the ones you have above, put it between ref tags, and Reflinks will automatically grab data from the website to fill out a citation template. It doesn't work on pdf links, but it'll work on anything html. Chris Troutman (talk) 18:51, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

References altered!

Dear Chris,

I printed off and tried to do as instructed in order to update reference #25, but I was unsuccessful. In the meantime, the references have been altered, so that now there are extra numbers added and they are no longer interactive. PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm not sure what the problem is. I updated the URL on the alphabet soup reference, which was just pasting in the new URL in place of the old one. Two references have changed to archive.is extension. When trying to update the two references, numbers 7 and 12, Wikipedia said it will not allow the .is extension. The recent hyperactive edits to my referenced facts were deletions of EIGHT PARAGRAPHS! Nearly EVERY sentence had a current, interactive reference. I thought Wikipedia was interested in facts. When I edited, it was only to RESTORE what someone else deleted. Other Edits added redundant information that was already included under History. The contributions I've made are factual only. There is no association with anyone. I send emails to neighbors and relatives, that's all. A few decades ago, I retired from full-time teaching. I think a change of username would be appropriate as I was of the understanding that you represented the city, or former city in some way. Hey City of Branch! Thank you for your contributions to Princeton, TX article. I had been deleting the edits to Princeton, TX article recently. Please use Talk:Princeton,_Texas to address ukexpat's 3 concerns before adding them back to the article. Like Longhair, based on your username, I was under the impression that you are trying to (misrepresent?) represent former City of Branch.

The 2 webpages under yolasite.com used as reference, if you own/control, it might be a good idea to disclose - to avoid perceived Conflict of interest and No original research. --Pinecar (talk) 05:57, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

I created the two referenced Yola sites from the court case that was open to the public in 2010 and ended in 2011. In 2003, my neighbors and I were very concerned about Princeton's sudden retroactive claim to many square miles of property. After seven years of trying to work with the city, the Collin County DA brought the case vs. Princeton, because the city violated Texas law. Some evidence was gathered by a few people from public records. The case is also a public record. There is no conflict of interest, because the facts are history. There is no original research, because the case is history. When someone tries repeatedly to erase historical facts which have current, interactive references, shouldn't that person be blocked? As the world's online encyclopedia, I thought Wikipedia was interested in historical facts. Please advise. Thank you. BranchHistory (talk) 15:29, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the disclosures 1) you creating the yolasite.com that you used for reference into the article, potentially makes your edits original research 2) While the court cases are history, as the verdict resolved your concern - your edits of the article potentially makes it Conflict of interest and not Neutral point of view.

While I fully appreciate your intention to preserve one of the court case that the city entered, unsure if wikipedia article on Princeton, TX is the right platform. This can be discussed in Talk:Princeton,_Texas or Talk:Branch, Texas, before getting into the article.

Oh sorry, I thought being unblocked meant I could restore facts that had been published here for about a decade! There is no conflict of interest when only facts are related and verified. I've been sending money to Wikipedia every time it's requested on this page, sometimes two or three times a year. I'm very sad if you decide the facts are not good enough to be put into Wikipedia. Yes, I communicated with Yola for a few months. After many tries that went on for 38 pages, I was asked to communicate with Yola HQ in S. Africa for remedies. Concerned that my info may not be secure in S. Africa, I decided to opt out of Yola. The two Yola sites I created in 2013 contained 62 maps and documents of proof.
