Help with Huawei article edit

As I've mentioned on my user page, I have a potential conflict of interest with Huawei as a subject, and I would like to have someone else review and comment on changes I'd like to propose for this article. In a subpage, I have added a draft that I have been writing for a suggested replacement of the current History section of the Huawei article. You can see my draft here: Huawei History draft. With this draft, I have aimed to be as neutral as possible, and to give a more complete version of the history of the company, compared with the current version of the section.

In the current History section, there are few citations for the information present and the use of technical terms is confusing. In addition, much information about Huawei's history and expansion was missing. The use of a timeline meant that some information was repeated and made the section appear confusing and disorganized to readers. As my draft has used the current section as a base, the majority of information from the current section has been retained. I have added subsections to improve organization, added citations for information that did not have a reliable source and tried to give more context to any technical terms. I removed the timeline, but made sure to include information from this in the draft and organized the whole section chronologically so that it is easy to follow. In particular, the draft has expanded on Huawei's founding and international expansion, to give a more comprehensive treatment of this part of its history.

I would appreciate if another editor could please read through my draft and offer any comments. If you feel that the draft is a good potential replacement for the current section, it would be most helpful if you could make that edit. For any questions or suggestions that you might have, I will try to respond as soon as I am able. I will be watching this talk page and the one on the article (where I have made a similar request). I've had a quick skim over it. It looks neutral and well-referenced. I'm happy to move the content to the article. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 20:29, 24 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposing new article for E5 edit

{{helpme}} In the last few weeks I have prepared a draft for a new article on Huawei's E5 mobile device range. I have now added the draft in a subpage of my userspace so that it is available for other editors to view and provide comments. As you can see from the above messages and the disclosure on my userpage, I do have a potential conflict of interest with Huawei as a topic. While I have aimed to write this new article from a neutral point of view, as much as I am able, I would like to ask for another editor to review and provide feedback on the article draft. You can see the draft article here: E5 draft.

To write the article I have used reliable secondary sources including articles from Macworld, Engadget and Slash Gear as well as using information available on Huawei's website. Since the E5 has been featured in a number of secondary sources, has won awards including "Work Gadget of the Year" at the T3 Gadget Awards in 2010 and is the top selling network card in Japan, I believe that it meets the notability standards for an article on Wikipedia.

It would be much appreciated if another editor could review the draft and suggest any changes necessary, or if you feel that it is ready, it would be helpful if you could move the article out of my userspace. If you have any questions or comments, please respond here and I will reply as soon as I am able. Thank you. --Bouteloua (talk) 16:56, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

You will be better off, posting a request at WP:RFF.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 21:20, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your reply here, Ronhjones, and I hope you don't mind that I've reset the help template. I had looked at WP:RFF and it did not seem the right place to ask for help with the article, since my reason for asking is not to look for technical assistance, but rather for someone to review the article's neutrality due to my potential COI. If the "help me" template is not the best way to for me to get assistance with this particular query, can you explain why and where I might better be able to find some help with this? Thank you. --Bouteloua (talk) 22:28, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I always suggest WP:RFF - it can do no harm! - the first line does say This page provides comments and constructive criticism about articles that you have drafted, created, or substantially changed - which seems to fit reasonably well. You will also find that editors there that are much more experienced in writing articles, rather than Wp:Wikignomes. The "helpme" just pops up on the admin dashboard - which most admins use, and some other editors also watch Category:Wikipedians looking for help. You may get an editor come by and help out - it's impossible to say, I was just trying to increase your chance of finding one. I'll leave the helpme - let's see what transpires.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:40, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much, that does make sense. I've followed your advice and added my request to WP:RFF, so hopefully between this request and the one there, I will be able to find someone who is able to help. Thank you again. --Bouteloua (talk) 22:56, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I just moved it to E5_(phone) - so, it's a live article. It's a wiki, so the article can get 'better' later.  Chzz  ►  14:41, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Chzz. Your help is much appreciated. I do have one question, regarding the name of the article: since the E5 is a Wi-Fi device (like the MiFi), not a phone, I'm not sure if "E5 (phone)" is correct. Perhaps "E5 (device)" or "Huawei E5" would be better? Do you think that one of these is preferable to the other? Thank you. --Bouteloua (talk) 15:38, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'd leave the name as it is. If it's not that correct then someone will rename it! - as Chzz says "it's a wiki" - the article will slowly improve with age, bit like a fine wine... You could add some comments on the talk page about your feeling for the name - I would think that the "(phone)" disambiguation is a standard one.
I've added a line on the DAB page E5 for you - feel free to change the description, if you want - note: on DAB pages, we have only one blue link per line - that of the new article, we would not link the "Huawei Technologies" on this page.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:40, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
P.S. Ideally, you should add a COI statement on the talk page (something like my one here - Talk:Alfa Aesar) - but it's not compulsory. Also if you want to get rid of the redundant redirect page User:Bouteloua/E5 then leave me a note.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:47, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, Ron, your advice is very helpful as is your addition to the E5 disambiguation page. I've added a note of disclosure on the article's talk page as you suggest and also noted there regarding the article name. If you would be able to remove the redirect, I would be most grateful. Thank you again. --Bouteloua (talk) 22:56, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Very good - that should be helpful to other editors. Redirect deleted  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:59, 25 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
