Recent edit reversion

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) Hey, I saw that you added https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/84216/Chevelle-Wonder-Whats-Next/ as a review. You'll notice that it reads "USER" next to the reviewer's name. The other types are CONTGRIBUTOR (https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/84746/The-Linda-Lindas-Growing-Up/) STAFF (https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/84753/Patrick-Watson-Better-In-The-Shade/) and EMERITUS (https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/28205/Scarface-Emeritus/). WP:SUBCAT

Before adding genre categories, always ensure that the band's songs are not already in a subcategory of said category, as per WP:SUBCAT. For example, for Evanescence, Category:Evanescence songs is a subcat of American hard rock songs, post-grunge songs, nu metal songs, and alternative metal songs; therefore, you don't need to add these four genre categories to their articles. Similarly, to explain this edit, Category:Creed (band) songs is a subcat of American hard rock songs, American alternative rock songs, and post-grunge songs, so refrain from adding these three genre cats. well, okay then, but if the song was totally uncategorized, i mean like it's only showing artist/band's songs and year's songs, is it okay to categorize it based on it's genre ?, thank you BlinkSulfate (talk) 13:14, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

Well, if it shows the band's category and the year, it's not totally uncategorized. You can add genre cats as long as the band isn't under a subcategory, but categories don't make the article; the article does. ResPM (T🔈🎵C) 14:11, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

I'm not trying to get into an edit war, but I want to know why you reverted an edit I made last May? I believe that all music articles should have to source their genres so that people can't just claim whatever genre they feel like. Breaking Benjamin is a noted alternative metal band, but it should still have a source. yawaraey (talk) 01:49, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
