Complexities

Thanks so much for picking up the ball on disentangling and organizing the various articles pertaining to algorithm and cyclomatic complexity. MacGyver / blocking IPs

Hiya. Well, as you can see, List of problems not solved by MacGyver was deleted under CSD G1, which is good. As regards the anonymous IP removing the speedy tag, you'll find that no-one gets blocked for a single occurrence like that. Have a look at WP:UWT where you'll find the template warnings. You'll see that almost all have several levels of warning, from "whoops it looks like you made a mistake, please don't do it again" up to "right-ho mate, next time I'm calling the heavy squad" (pardon the colloquialisms !) Unless and until someone gets up to, say level 3 or 4, you'll be unlikely to find the admins even willing to consider a block/ban.

Firstly, it may have been done in good faith (WP:AGF) - anonymous editors aren't always there causing vandalism, but may be casual browsers who spotted something wrong and wanted to correct it and don't want to create an account - as a case in point, my first edits to WP were made as an anonymous user :-) Being unaware of WP guidelines/procedures, they may have just edited the page incorrectly and accidentally removed the tag.

Secondly, to get a block or a ban, someone - anonymous or registered - has to have a pattern of repeated and persistent vandalism (hence the multiple levels of warning). Since the page has been deleted, and I'm not an admin so can't check the page history, I can't check any other contributions from that IP address, so don't know if it was a one-off or not. In this particular case, I'm therefore inclined to let it pass - if editors spent time tracking down every person who ever vandalised articles, they'd never be editing ! Besides, vandalism can normally be removed with a couple of mouse clicks - tedious, but not life-threatening :-)

The policy related to deliberate vandalism is covered at WP:VANDAL, and if you ever do need to request a block/ban, then you need to log it at WP:AIV - but if you read that page, you'll see that requirement number 3 is "The user must be given sufficient recent warnings to stop." - hence my point above.

POV issues in Scientific community metaphor

Hello, I saw that you reverted my removal of the POV tag on that article. That tag is not intended to mark articles with POV issues but rather articles with an ongoing POV dispute. If you feel that the content is imbalanced or otherwise needs work, you are welcome and encouraged to go ahead and make the changes. The tag is only necessary if someone then objects to your changes. If you are unable to make the changes immediately, then please at least put a more appropriate tag such as COI or Autobiography and update the date field so other editors will be able to find it.
