3O filing declined

I have declined your request for a third opinion. One requisite for listing a case is that thorough discussion must have occurred at the Talk page in question. I see one post by you and two by the editor you are having a dispute with, which to my mind does not constitute "thorough discussion". Please continue discussing the matter there for the time-being. If you are unable to reach a compromise after additional discussion has occurred you are welcome to relist your request. Alternately, you are welcome to pursue other forms of dispute resolution.

As a side-note, when listing a request at 3O, you should use five tildes rather than the standard four. This will omit your name from the signature, which is standard practice at 3O to foster an atmosphere of neutrality. Cheers. DonIago (talk) 14:38, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Nomination of Ministries of Sri Lanka for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ministries of Sri Lanka is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ministries of Sri Lanka until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Rehman 11:09, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

I have at your request restored most of the articles on Ministers. Sport and Finance have been either doubly deleted or doubly redirected and the original texts are, at least to me, untraceable. You could try asking the other deleting admins.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 15:43, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Sri Lanka "Health Section"

In other country pages, information pertaining to mortality rate and other such information is categorized into the "Health" section, please consider adding or repairing, but not reverting this modification. I did not understand your reasoning, and would like to understand why this was reverted. Twillisjr (talk) 13:55, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for the message and not edit warring. Information related to health can be found in the Demographics section, however I don't think a section on health itself would be necessary as a summary of the country.--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:35, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you're familiar with the Sesame Street Song, "one of these things is not like the other" but it applies here. From A-Z, whether it be Angola#Health to Zimbabwe#Health or the ever popular Usa#Health, nearly every country besides this one has such a section. I'd appreciate keeping the uniformity of this encyclopedia and kindly ask you to revert. Twillisjr (talk) 11:51, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Executive Councils articles

Hi, I just wanted to explain my edits on the Executive Councils articles. The Executive Council of Ceylon was abolished in 1931 in accordance with Donoughmore Commission recommendations. Both Executive Council of Ceylon and List of Ceylonese executive councils wrongly said that it existed until 1947, I have corrected and provided refs.

In 1931 the Executive Council was replaced by the Board of Ministers. There were two Board of Ministers between 1931 and 1947 and they were known as the First and Second Board of Ministers (they were not named after the head of the Board of Ministers).

I have redirected three Executive Councils articles you created for the period 1933 to 1947 to the relevant Board of Ministers article. The Thomson executive council of Ceylon needs to be corrected to say that it only lasted until July 1931 when the First Board of Ministers came into being. I have also reverted three of your edits which removed Category:Members of the Executive Council of Ceylon. I guess you did this because you couldn't sub-categorise them into one of the officials categories but there are refs which say that these three individuals (Ponnambalam Arunachalam, K. Balasingam, Marcus Fernando) were members of the Executive Council so we should keep them in the category. Arunachalam joined the Executive Council in 1912 as a personal appointment of the Governor (even though he didn't hold any office of state at that time). The other two may have been non-official members appointed after 1924.--obi2canibetalk contr 14:49, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for that. I didn't know about the Board of Ministers. The Executive Councils were a work in progress so the research was to come later, so there are some placeholder links. Nevertheless I have updated the relevant articles. It would be if we could find some references specific each of the Executive Councils. As per the three individuals I think it would be better if they were placed in cats such as Category:Unofficial members of the Executive Council of Ceylon etc. relevant to their posts of course.--Blackknight12 (talk) 17:15, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
We should first find sources to confirm that Balasingam and Fernando were unofficial members before we add them to Category:Unofficial members of the Executive Council of Ceylon otherwise we may end up making the same mistake as the editor who created Executive Council of Ceylon article - adding factually incorrect information based on assumptions. Arunachalam wasn't an unofficial member - he was a unique personal appointment of the Governor and doesn't fall into a specific category.--obi2canibetalk contr 19:31, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Sri Lankan Health ministers

A tag has been placed on Template:Sri Lankan Health ministers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please check my reference before reverting back to the original. if you have a problem please seek further guidance. Once a language has been named in the constitution it becomes official. Frans Adiesha (talk) 12:22, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

That is wrong, just because it has been named in the constitution does not make it official. Certain languages have certain uses and in this case English in Sri Lanka is only recognised as a link language, not official, as it is clearly stated in the very reference you have given.--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:15, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Tours template

When you say "proper temp already exists" you are quite incorrect. The template I am using is the one agreed by WP:CRIC and used for international tours of the other nine ICC full members. You have introduced something that is non-standard and containing incorrect information. Would you now like to undo your recent edits and restore the standard template? Thank you. Jack | talk page 13:03, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Using Twinkle I have restored the standard template throughout the tours of SL articles. If you object to the standard and wish to replace it with other formats, you need to refer your case to WT:CRIC and gain consensus before doing so. We cannot have a situation where articles about nine countries comply with a project standard and the tenth has something completely different. We devise standards to make things easy for the readers who need to see consistency in our approach and presentation. Jack | talk page 13:42, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Hi, could you please direct me to that discussion. And what incorrect information have I used? I created and have used the previous template for the past few years and have not had any objections by anyone, including WT:CRIC. I agree there should be a standard template for all teams, but not at the cost of quality, given this is pretty much a non issue. I suggest restoring it back to the way it was and in the future maybe wait until the other person has a chance to reply. Thanks--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:41, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Template:International cricket tours of Sri Lanka was created in December 2006 and moved by you in November 2010 to Template:International one day cricket tours of Sri Lanka. Did you raise that move with WT:CRIC at the time?

CRIC have discussed tour articles on numerous occasions since 2006 and as a result we have standard title, categorisation and template formats. These discussions are in the CRIC archive over a period of time. The CRIC view on tour templates is encapsulated within Category:International cricket tours navigational boxes. As you can see, this contains eleven templates that comply with Template:International cricket tours of Host Nation including the Sri Lanka one which I have restored and fully updated to contain a link to every international tour of Sri Lanka (including the Ceylon "stopovers"). You will find that most of the other ten are fully updated also (I haven't yet verified the content of Australia or England but I think they will need a few tweaks only). CRIC decided at some point that tour templates should be based on host nation only and so templates about tours by visiting nation are deprecated. I can't remember precise discussions so long ago though I'm fairly sure this view arose from the difficulties posed by English teams overseas but the main point is the prevention of template overload within articles. So, if you use your tours by Sri Lanka above or below tours of England, that is just too much information. It is preferable that the reader is presented with tours of host nation only as that is more relevant in the context of an article that is essentially about cricket in that country. I see there are a couple of templates that focus upon a particular series as with the Indian tours of England and I don't know how the project would view those. Equally, it has been agreed that the tours of the host nation should be contained in a single template which is why ten countries have one template for tours hosted and only Sri Lanka is different.

"I suggest restoring it back to the way it was and in the future maybe wait until the other person has a chance to reply". That is what I have done by restoring the original template which was in use for four years with CRIC approval, suitably updated. As for awaiting a reply you did not consult CRIC or myself about the block revert you carried out two days ago. The reason no one has addressed the matter before is simply that the project has a small membership and those are almost all English, Indian or Australian. Cricket in the other leading nations has been largely neglected. I have recognised this and am taking action re tours at least and will hopefully do the same with seasons in due course. Your templates needed updating, especially re the article links, and completion rather than correction of data. I see you did that but you appear to have used my work which you have then tried to suppress by redirecting the standard template and again superimposing your own.

As things stand, tour articles of most countries need a drastic overhaul and the first steps are to ensure that articles exist (I can't believe how many are redirects), that they contain sufficient basic information for a meaningful stub (many do not), that they are properly categorised (this is a nightmare), that they have standard templates which are themselves up-to-date and that they have properly formatted reference sections (another nightmare). I've completed the task re New Zealand which was in a very bad state and I'm working my way through the other countries though, as I said above, I've so far stayed away from Australia and England.

If you wish to challenge the standard template format, you need to take it up with WT:CRIC. Obviously, I will oppose your proposal but I will gladly comply with consensus. That being so, I will not refer your templates to WP:TFD in case CRIC decide they like them, in which case I will restore them to the articles and help to create similar ones for the other countries. I changed the Sri Lanka cricket's current ranking from 3rd to 4th and you reverted my edit. I'd like you to understand that after Sri Lanka lost the 1st ODI against Pakistan yesterday, Sri Lanka has lost their 3rd position. Check out the official ranking here if you don't know about it. Thanks!

Sri Lankan Rugby

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking that rather than a template on the President's Trophy Knockout Tournament - there should be articles on each of the National Competitions, starting with the Dialog Rugby League competition and the Clifford Cup tournament (see User:Dan arndt/sandbox#Clifford Cup). Then possibly an article on the Dialog Rugby Sevens - as these three events make up the triple crown. I haven't been able to find a lot on each year of the competition so I don't think that there is enough information to warrant articles to fill all of the items on the President's Trophy Tournament. When I started examining the various individual rugby articles I realised that the articles on the individual clubs apart from Kandy, Havies and CR & FC they were nothing but stubs - so I turned my attention to filling those out.

Current teams

Former Teams

If anything the articles in Template:Rugby union in Sri Lanka should be worked on before doing anything with the Template:President's Trophy Knockout Tournament. If you have any good sources on any of the clubs or the history of the game that I can utilise let me know or if you want to collaborate on any articles relating to Rugby union in Sri Lanka let me know.Dan arndt (talk) 09:03, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

I'd be happy to collaborate, I created most of those articles with the intension of doing a whole overhaul on the the topic, but never got around to it. I cleaned up Rugby union in Sri Lanka, and I think we can start on the league articles now. This was my start User:Blackknight12/Caltex Clifford Cup Knockout Tournament, as you can see I never got around to it but I still have a lot of articles on the topic that we can use. You've done well in your sandboxes, if only you can get some references for them. I think I will start expanding these articles from time to time and helping you out with the work load.--Blackknight12 (talk) 16:45, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
Have started by adding the Clifford Cup, have also included articles for the 2012 and 2014 seasons but haven't been able to source enough information for earlier seasons. Am intending to tackle the Caltex/Dialog Rugby League next. Happy for you to have a look and expand where you can. Dan arndt (talk) 05:10, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Oops, we got into an edit conflict as I was adding references and you were re-formatting the tables. Unfortunately I wiped your edits - sorry. I like what you did - so you might want to go back and re-format the tables. Will keep out of you way if you want to get onto them. Thanks Dan arndt (talk) 09:42, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

Don't forget to add back all the references! Dan arndt (talk) 02:11, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Thats no problem, I have restored and updated the article and should be good for further expansion. Good work on it. Just one thing, the United Services Rugby Football Club should stay as is, the country was not known as Sri Lanka then so it would not be proper to name it Sri Lanka. We can expand the redirect and create a disambiguation page to distinguish the two teams.--Blackknight12 (talk) 02:27, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
At this stage all my research indicates that there was no formal "United Services Rugby Football Club" but that it was made up of players who represented the police and army. Similarly I'm not certain that there was an "Up Country" or "Low Country" Rugby Club - more likely that the players for these two teams were drawn from clubs in either area to play in this annual tournament (i.e. only two games a year). Will keep looking and see what I can find. Have started work on Dialog Ruby League but there is still a way to go. Dan arndt (talk) 03:16, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Also United Services Rugby Football Club links to the United Services Portsmouth Rugby Football Club so it needs to have another title to disambiguate the two. Dan arndt (talk) 03:19, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Nice! here are some links I have from when I was going to write the article, maybe you can use them:
Clifford Cup
President's Trophy Knockout Tournament
Others
Also if you dont mind I might edit the Dialog Rugby League article here and there while you expand it too? I'll just be formatting the quality and keeping it to standard with other related articles, but not so much research.--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:27, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Clifford Cup Results table - is it possible to split the tables into 1911-13, 1926-38 & 1950-99 and put a similar blue header for 2000-14?Dan arndt (talk) 07:18, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

It would appear that the competition was actually called the John Player 'Gold Leaf' Rugby Championships see [1]. Dan arndt (talk) 12:06, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
Both tournaments have changed names many times due to sponsorship reasons, I think we should just keep it Clifford Cup and Sri Lankan Rugby Championship. If we have a lot of information on the sponsorship throughout the history of the tournament then we can also have a section such as English Premiership (rugby union)#Sponsorship.--Blackknight12 (talk) 05:39, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
I 100% agree with you about just calling the article Sri Lankan Rugby Championship, as otherwise it is just too confusing. Dependent on the era/time period the sponsorship and the name of the championship changed. John Player League, Carlsberg League, Caltex League, Dialog League.. Will try and structure the article accordingly. Have just finished improving CH & FC. Dan arndt (talk) 13:04, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Army SC

Have recently come across an issue where there is multiple articles with extremely similar titles. There is Sri Lanka Army Sports Club (rugby) (the rugby club), Sri Lanka Army S.C. (the football club) and Sri Lanka Army Sports Club (the cricket club). I tried to move Sri Lanka Army SC to Sri Lanka Army Sports Club (football) and intended to move Sri Lanka Army Sports Club to Sri Lanka Army Sports Club (cricket) however my move was reverted fairly quickly on the basis that it was a more accurate name what do think?Dan arndt (talk) 14:00, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Moving pages

I noted that you have recently moved a number of pages relating to Sri Lanka forts. As per WP:NCCAPS the second or subsequent words in an article's title should not be captialised unless the title is a proper noun in almost all the cases fort is a common noun not a proper noun. (i.e. Arippu Fort should be Arippu fort). I am happy to stand corrected if necessary but I think you'll find that this is the correct application of the Wikipedia naming conventions. Could you therefore please revert all those recent moves that you have made to reflect the above. Dan arndt (talk) 04:42, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Native Languages in the lead

I noticed that you reverted my edit saying that it's related to Wikiproject India only, it's not. There was a discussion regarding this and the final conclusion was not to use native script in the WP:LEAD. As Sinhala is originated from Sanskrit it's also considered as an Indian script. Regardless native script shouldn't be used in the lead. But still it could be used anywhere else in the article.--Chamith (talk) 03:35, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

That is a consensus reached in the Wikiproject India community for India related articles, it's policy and leanings do not flow into Sri Lanka related articles. Wikiproject Sri Lanka is a totally different community with different guidelines to editing. That guideline has not been discussed by any Wikiproject Sri Lanka editors nor has it been implemented anywhere else. The language situation in India is much more complex than in Sri Lanka hence the discussion. Sinhala being originated from Sanskrit has nothing to do with it.--Blackknight12 (talk) 03:46, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Commander-in-Chief, Ceylon

Hi Blackknight12, Commander-in-Chief, Ceylon is a post held by the Governor, while the post of Officer Commanding Troops, Ceylon (known as a General Officer Commanding Troops, Ceylon when a Major General or above was holding the post) remained as the British Army officer commanding the Garrison units in Ceylon. During world war 2 due to military operations taking place close to Ceylon Admiral Sir Geoffrey Layton was made Commander-in-Chief. Therefore please consider reverting the changes you did. Thanks. I will reply to you here.--Blackknight12 (talk) 18:37, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MASEM (t) 15:41, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
