Move edit

I've moved this to the correct spelling and added (band) as there is a Brainerd page already (a disambiguation). I've added the article to the disambiguation. Peridon (talk) 22:36, 26 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}}

Hello again, I'm back with a new topic, and I hope I'm doing this correctly, and in the correct place. I'm still working on the article and the proper references notations. Is there an easy way for me to add the reference points? When i logged on it said that blackanguskhan was deleted. It was rather confusing, please let me know if I'm on the right road AND going in the right direction. Thanks for your time.Blackanguskhan (talk) 23:19, 29 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

How references work edit

Simple references edit

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References ==
{{reflist}}

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Blackanguskhan/reftest and try it out.

Named references edit

Chzz was born in 1837, <ref name="MyBook">
"The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009.
</ref> in Footown.<ref name="MyBook"/>

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates edit

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation
 | last = Smith
 | first = John
 | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century
 | publication-date = 2001
 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]]
 | page = 125
 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4
}}
</ref>

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.

I believe the O'Cayz Corral article is prepared to go live. If someone would please look it over, make sure there are no major flaws, and move it to the name "O'Cayz Corral" I would greatly appreciate it.Blackanguskhan (talk) 23:19, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

  Done You can find the article at O'Cayz Corral. :-) Killiondude (talk) 23:36, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} I believe the High Noon Saloon is ready to go live! Please launch if it looks good. I plan on adding more references in the near future. Blackanguskhan (talk) 20:16, 10 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

  Done High Noon Saloon. Keep up the great work!  Skomorokh  02:17, 11 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} I'm not quite sure what to do next. How do I "clean the slate" so to speak, so that I can do another entry? Do I do it on top of the last one? What is the M.O?Blackanguskhan (talk) 23:58, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is there something stopping you from creating new entries directly, Angus? If so, the best thing is to start them as subpages of your userpage i.e. at User:Blackanguskhan/Name of page, and then asking someone to move them.  Skomorokh  00:01, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I have just added you to the WP:CONFIRMED usergroup, which means you should be able to create articles pretty much anywhere you want.  Skomorokh  00:04, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think there was a bit of confusion here; Blackanguskhan wrote an article on their user page (user:Blackanguskhan), and moved it to the live article, High Noon Saloon. That's fine, but it left their userpage redirected to the live article. I've just fixed that.
Also, to make things easier in the future, I've added some links to non-existent userspace pages, that you can click on and create. Edit the user page to see what I did, and feel free to add more, change names, etc. I hope this clarifies; for more help, talk to us live, with this or this.  Chzz  ►  00:11, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Great! Thanks for your help! I appreciate it. Blackanguskhan (talk) 20:01, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} I believe the Willy Street Pub is good to go live, if someone would be so kind as to move it over that would be great. It's under Test1. Please let me know if there's anything I need to correct, specifically. Thanks!Blackanguskhan (talk) 01:33, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay, all you need to do is go to User:Blackanguskhan/test 1, click the "move" tab at the top of the page and enter "Willy Street Pub" as the new title. Give it a try!  Skomorokh  01:36, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Makes sense to me! Thanks! I was thinking about doing an entry for the term "Pub & Grill" as there doesn't appear to be one. Would I put that under Pub? or do the definition of Pub and Grill seperately explain what that is enough? It's a very common American term, I was surprised it's not in WP.Blackanguskhan (talk) 01:41, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ah, that's a difficult question. The best idea would probably be to start a discussion at Talk:Public house and see what other editors knowledgeable about the subject think. If that is inconclusive, go ahead and write it at Pub and grill – it can always be merged somewhere later if necessary. Keep up the great work!  Skomorokh  01:46, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Also, I suggest you check your logic against WP:NOTDIC  Chzz  ►  01:47, 14 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} Can someone please show me how I put together the "box" on the right with information about the theatre,
such as the way the Orpheum Theatre, Minneapolis, Minnesota looks? I'd appreciate it! Blackanguskhan (talk) 03:25, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ciao, Angus. A good way to figure out how templates work is to edit the pages they are on, and find out their names. So looking at the edit screen for the Orpheum page, you can see that the code start off with "{{Infobox_nrhp | name =Hennepin Theatre | nrhp_type =", meaning the name of the template is {{Infobox_nrhp}}. That page has documentation about how to use the template. These kinds of templates are called Category:Infoboxes, by the way. Regards,  Skomorokh  03:31, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} Thanks! Common Sense! Blimey! I appreciate your help. I've found an image I'd like to use that says "photo courtesy of the public domain" directly under it. Is that OK to use? and if so, which area should I be downloading it? Thanks again for putting up with my silly questions.Blackanguskhan (talk) 05:19, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Public domain means nobody owns it. Have fun. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:26, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Orpheum Theatre (Madison, Wisconsin) edit

{{helpme}} When I try to move the Orpheum Article to its proper name and live section of WP, it tells me I can't move it over itself. Should I be using different titles for the articles while working on them, then give them their proper name when I move them over?Blackanguskhan (talk) 23:57, 19 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

The article is already live, and under the correct name. You moved it successfully with this edit. ∙ AJCham(talk) 00:16, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

{{helpme}} When i search for The Orpheum it doesn't come up under the list of Orpheum theatres, and I've notice that the Orpheum Theatre (Madison, Wiscosin) that is in the list is spelled theatER, not theatRE, should I move it to that to have it searchable? I would also like to add The Wisco to search names for the Willy Street Pub and Grill, how do I go about that?Blackanguskhan (talk) 00:23, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I believe it can take a few days before the article appears in search results - but it is definitely live: Orpheum Theatre (Madison, Wisconsin). I've also edited the Orpheum disambiguation to correctly point at your article. ∙ AJCham(talk) 01:17, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Regarding the second Q, you could create a redirect from The Wisco. Just follow that red link there, and create a page with the text: #REDIRECT[[Willy Street Pub and Grill]]
