Superman curse edit

Hi. Regarding your addition to the Superman curse article, can you provide some info on the book you cited, Superman on Broadway, like the publisher, year of publication, and on which page the curse is mentioned? I tried looking for it on Amazon.com and Google Books, and couldn't find any book by that name. Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 19:15, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your speedy and detailed reply. I'm very sorry, but if the source you cited does not mention the curse, then the material cannot remain in the article. Wikipedia requires that all material added to articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable sources that explicitly support that material. Adding material based on personal knowledge is called original research, and is strictly prohibited on Wikipedia. As for the About.com article, a discussion at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard determined that that publication is not reliable for statements of fact, as its writers are not credentialed, and it lacks editorial oversight This is why Holiday was removed from the article last year, as that webpage was the only source cited for his inclusion at the time. I was hoping that the book you cited would allow us to re-add him, but unfortunately we can't for the aforementioned reasons. If you have any other questions about editing, or need help regarding the site's policies, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks. :-) Nightscream (talk) 21:02, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again for your commitment to improving the site with valuable information. If the book contains good info on Holiday, then may make the suggestion that you use it to work on the Bob Holiday article? It's not very developed as of yet, and what is in there is unreferenced. You should also add a mention of him in the In other media section of the Superman article. (He is already mentioned in the Superman in other media article, which forks off from that section, but the only place he is currently mentioned in the Superman article is at the end of the Personality section, curiously enough.)
The Superman curse, article, however, is not an article on the Superman legacy, or a rundown of all the actors who have played him. It's an article specifically about a particular superstition. While Holiday may have completely positive memories of his time playing the character, we cannot interpret that as a reference to the curse. Sources must contain the material in question. It cannot be subject to manipulation, interpretation or analysis by the editor, because that is called synthesis, which is a form of original research. I'm sorry, but we cannot add unsourced material based on our personal aesthetics or fan considerations. The fan can at least take solace that Holiday has his own article, and is mentioned in two Superman-related articles (one of which you can add to, as aforementioned). Awesome work, waiting until a good source became available for Bob Holiday, and then adding it to the article! Great job! Nightscream (talk) 18:29, 20 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
