I looked at this also. since he received the Order of Australia, he is notable and should have an article. However, it's write in too personal and too laudatory a tone. And here also, some of the material looks like its been copied from other sources. check andrewrite--and cut down on some of it. DGG ( talk ) 05:59, 19 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thee are two major questions:

First, the documentation of his son;s career needs a reference, or must be eliminated. Second, some of it reads as if it were copied from other sources, particularly the first and second references. Please double check that there ie neither exact copying nor WP:Close paraphrase. If there is, rewrite those parts in your own words. After you check it, resubmit.   Hello Uql earthsci, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Draft:Ernest James Goddard has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. /wia /tlk 06:44, 2 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Account name - concern

edit

Hello, I've just been reading your Seismology Station article - looks really interesting. However, I'm a bit concerned about your username and Wikipedia policy.

One of Wikipedia's policies, WP:USERNAME, is that usernames shouldn't sound sound like they're the property of an organisation or shared, and together with the fact that a lot of your edits are on University of Queensland topics, that means your username sort of sounds to me like people might look at your edits and think you represent a University of Queensland department in some official capacity. So this is just a suggestion, but you might want to take a look at that and see if you think changing it would be a good idea? Let me know if you have any thoughts. Proposed deletion of Kathleen Campbell-Brown

edit

The article Kathleen Campbell-Brown has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Proposed deletion of Ted Emery

edit

The article Ted Emery has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion nomination of Greg Clark (born 1965)

edit

Hello Biblioqd,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Greg Clark (born 1965) for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Proposed deletion of Clare Foley (lawyer)

edit

The article Clare Foley (lawyer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no evidewnce of notability. Directory listings only.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. some comments

I've just been seeing your excellent work on Australian scientists. One of my projects is going back to the drafts on scientists and other academics that have been deleted because they weren't worked on in time (I have a list of a few thousand to try to restore), and I've found some of yours in that list. In the process, i've looked at some of your other bios, and I've been making a few of mu usual changes for conciseness in line with what I think is the standard format: such things as reducing the amount of family detail and indications of early interest in the field, removing adjectives of praise or importance--the career itself shows it better than the adjectives--systematizing the sequence of positions in their career--it's usually enough to give the years without saying also the length of time, changing such expressions as "she was to work on this for the rest of her career" to "she worked on this for the rest of her career." and making red links for thesis advisors and journals that we need to have articles about. Another thing I like to do is to list the 2 or 3 most cited publications, as this gives an objective statement of the importance of their work, but I don't always have time for that. Your work here is important, and if there's anything in particular you might want any assistance with, just let me know. DGG ( talk ) 05:50, 28 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Albert Hall, Brisbane

edit

Just to explain further, take a look at File:Albert Street Methodist Church and Albert Hall, Brisbane, ca. 1904 (4969961724).jpg and you will see a couple of things. First there is the edge of another building to the left of the Hall and that the frontage of the Hall is narrower than that of the Church itself (which combined would be insufficient to extend through to Turbot Street). However because the site for the SGIO was said to be bought from the church makes me wonder if the church did own the land through to Turbot Street but had other buildings (less important than Albert Hall) on the corner with Turbot Street, which is why nobody mentions them. I am overseas at the moment but when I get home, I might check through my old Street directories and see if I can work out what was on the corner of Albert and Turbot. Kerry (talk) 01:52, 5 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

see also File:Q16821228 Albert St Uniting Church - 20181014e.jpg, which suggests that Albert Hall was on the open plaza area now on Albert Street in front of the SGIO building. If so, the SGIO theatre replaced the Albert Hall in terms of its function as a theatre space but not in a strictly geographic sense. Down the rabbit hole we go ... WikiAviator, the sources present seem reliable enough and more than enough to establish notability. What were you hoping for? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 17:00, 4 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Barkeep49: In the revision at the time of my review ([1]), facts are largely unsupported and there are only three sources, which passes the "reviewed" criteria but needs improvement, since all content heavily rely on these three sources. The problem has now been solved. WikiAviator (talk) 03:54, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hallo, Thank you for creating Mike Minogue (actor). When you create an article like this with a "disambiguated" title, please make sure that the reader can find it from the basic name (ie Mike Minogue), by adding or expanding a hatnote, or adding the article to a disambiguation page. This helps the reader to find your article, and also reduces the chance of a future careless editor creating a duplicate article with a slightly different disambiguator. I've fixed this one. Thanks, and Happy Editing. PamD 10:49, 5 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
