Jeremy Andrews (Scientz) User Page

Do not EVER, under ANY circumstances, touch my user page again. Scientz (talk) 01:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

It's my opinion that this has become a personal grudge with you because of my edits to MDMA (in which, I notice, my edit appears to have "won") . . . Grow up. I (or my user page) would not have even come to your attention were it not for my edits on MDMA. My user page has been like that for well over a year without any other Wikipedian taking offense or needlessly editing it. My user page does not violate Wiki protocols (I've read them twice now). Most telling, in fact, is the sentence in "What may I not have on my user page?" that reads: "The Wikipedia community is generally tolerant and offers fairly wide latitude in applying these guidelines to regular participants." If this is the case, where is your tolerance? To me, your attempts to edit my user page are transparent, and I'd appreciate it if you'd stop hiding behind Wiki protocols that do not say what you claim they say. If you want to discuss edits I've made to the general content pages, fine . . . that is what Wiki is here for. If you want to continue this asinine edit war over my user page, then I shall stand by my claim that you are being unnecessarily immature. Stop. I'm done speaking to you about this topic. Scientz (talk) 17:01, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
I'm curious how you have arrived at the judgment that that material appears without their consent . . . have you spoken with my father, mother, or grandparents? Also, your own quote only refers to "unsourced or poorly sourced material", so how did you interpret your edit as falling within those guidelines? Last time I checked, the birth dates on Wiki did not have a footnote. If your interpretation is indeed correct, then I'd better start putting "citation required" tags on several hundred thousand birth dates. So which is it I'm violating again? Just leave the page alone. Scientz (talk) 18:50, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
In fact I am not, although your suggestion has been duly noted. Scientz (talk) 18:57, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

adoption

hi there - I'm back - are you still able to adopt me? I've just made some edits to Ishmael Beah's page - an entry that has attracted controversy in the past (see history and discussion). So I would appreciate your advice if those issues re-occur. Leaving aside the question of bias, which is always going to be a subjective judgement, I think that the page as it stood was factually misleading in a couple of places. Oops as you can see I am also crap at formatting, this message appeared in the wrong place - I'm sorry!—Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosabibi (talkcontribs) 18:57, 16 May 2008

Thanks for your advice. No, I don't want to get into edit wars, so I'm glad for you thoughts on how to avoid that.

It isn't just the content of the entry that bothered me, but the fact that changes were being made at the instigation of the publisher, who by several media accounts has been extremely high-handed over the whole issue.

What is the deal about sources? There was talk on the discussion page about needing "secondary sources", which just seems weird to me and I can't find anything in the guidelines that seems to validate it. I've always been taught to value primary sources, and I really couldn't see the point of referencing media coverage that was basically just reporting on the original reports. I've included some material from the Village voice article because it did include some new interviews etc. But still no extra on the ground reporting.Oops, forgot to sign again. And what is the formatting thing that makes lines appear in that box thing, and how do I get rid of it?--Rosabibi (talk) 16:17, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

Me again. Thank you for your time and for your interest. I fixed the title and added a couple of catagories (after much messing around) but I still couldn't get the references to show up - I'm a bear of very little brain on technical things. I'll take another look when I have more energy and am feeling more alert. I know a lot about nineteenth century women travel writers, however. And not many of them have wikipedia pages, so I'll add some more entries, as well as adding more to the Sophia Lane Poole entry. Thanks again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosabibi (talkcontribs) 12:50, 29 May 2008 (UTC) Done! although I should go back and put in more complete reference details - but that will have to wait til morning. Yawn. Thank you!--Rosabibi (talk) 14:45, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Congrats!

New Focus at Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles

  The Invisible Barnstar
Thank you for your continued work and assistance on Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles, referencing and generally cleaning up articles that have needed attention for a long time. Your good work goes unseen unless someone disagrees ;) Jeepday (talk) 12:07, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

The huge set of unreferenced articles from June of 2006 is finally completed. Thank you for your contributions. The new focus at Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles is Category:Articles lacking sources from July 2006 which as of May 28 is only 1,322 articles and should go much quicker. Thank you to everyone who has contributed and listed themselves as a volunteer. Jeepday (talk) 12:07, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Adoption request

Hi Belovedfreak I was looking at the Adoption page and found you. I just wrote my first article in German about a company. Now I want to write an article about that company in English. However, I am not sure, how I am supposed to prove all my facts as most of the proves are in German. Are you willing to help me?

Best regards, --Nisse149 (talk) 08:53, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Nisse 149

Hello Belovedfreak

I'm sorry for not having answered for some time. I now put the article on my user page, without internal Wikipedia links. I know it's not supposed to be there but I was not able to find the correct place. I'm quite inexperienced with these things. Please give me feedback as soon as possible! Thank you very much in advance--Nisse149 (talk) 13:54, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Nisse149

Hello, I am a student in AP Biology working on a project with wikipedia. I was wondering if you could help me? I have not picked a subject yet but I will very soon, maybe you can help me pick one if you are interested. I am new to all this wikipedia stuff and I would glady appreciate your help. Our mission is to take a stub and turn it into GA or FA status. Can you help me? --Amitampocco (talk) 20:42, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Conversion therapy issue

Thank you for having a word with 66.30.20.71 about changing "reparative therapy" to "conversion therapy." Unfortunately, what you said does not seem to be enough, since he is still making that change, and it is usually a serious error. I am going to undo his changes, and if he does not accept that, then there will be ongoing problems with multiple articles. Something needs to be done on the conversion therapy article and talk page to prevent this kind of confusion. Skoojal (talk) 23:47, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

I have made several points in regards to my concerns about possible POV-pushing afoot. If this issue interests you, please visit Talk:Conversion therapy#Throckmorton. Thank you. Whistling42 (talk) 11:02, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Accusations of POV pushing against others are common from people who engage in POV pushing. I have to note that your edit to Exodus International misrepresented the sources the article is based upon: they talk about reparative therapy, not conversion therapy, so you are misrepresenting the facts. I really need your help as nobody answered my question on the notability. I want to try to put the article online and see then what happens, do you think that's a good idea? Afd Withdrawl

Hi Belovedfreak,

I have decided to withdraw (only) the Afd nomination for the Comparison of web conferencing software. The wisest course of action for me is to withdraw and not be involved with this specific article. Feel free to e-mail me. Thank you for your assistance. GaryECampbell (talk) 09:25, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

For the 2nd AfD nominated, what is the process? It's been 7 days. - (Gary) - DustyRain (talk) 14:23, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Someone else can nominate the comparison article, that's OK. The vendor article was what I was referring to above (7 days). - DustyRain (talk) 16:21, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
See my comments: Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Comparison_of_web_conferencing_software. Also sent email. DustyRain (talk) 16:30, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Re other AfD - Perhaps it should be included in the Web or Internet category ? - DustyRain (talk) 17:18, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Clan Maxwell - External Links

Whilst I do agree that user 198.103.184.76 did go a bit over the top with the number of external links, it is not uncommon amongst the various Wiki Clan entries to include a link to Clan Societies and the like. Surely there is some scope for a couple of relevent links? --Heraldic (talk) 09:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the response. I've reinstated three Clan Maxwell Society links as that sort of thing seems to be acceptable amongst other clan entries. --Heraldic (talk) 10:39, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply to my comments on the Africa page. I also received a Welcome message and invitation to Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa - thanks for that - I have added my name to the members list. I would like to request mentorship (adoption) since I have found a stub which I could contribute towards: Education in Swaziland. Your assistance in adding content according to Wikipedia:Good articles criteria will be invaluable. venzen (talk) 12:03, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I am really happy to be adopted by someone with your particular track record and expertise :) Where do we 'meet' and discuss? On this talk page or my own? I guess my own is better, since I will have a record of all our discussions and progress in a single place (I will name the section Mentorship) venzen (talk) 12:39, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Todd Meagher

Just to let you know I meant no offense to yourself when I replaced the CSD tag. It is just that the tag and the warning placed on the user's talkpage quite plainly state what they should do so I've replaced the tag as I don't see an assertion of notability and the tag if its removal is appropriate should be done by someone that isn't the author. Thanks. Jasynnash2 (talk) 12:36, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

That's fine, no offence taken! I had a feeling somebody would. I agree there is no real assertion of notability, but given that there are some ghits, I wanted to give the editor a chance to improve it. But then again, he/she really shouldn't have created it in the first place given the COI and if an article is needed, someone will write one at some point. Thanks for the explanation anyway. --BelovedFreak 13:03, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Help needed

Hi. I saw that you contributed to The Paradox of Choice: Why More Is Less. There's an anonymous user who is very adamant about advertising their school or school system in the article. Would you mind taking a look? Cheers, --Ademkader (talk) 22:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the subject, my edit was just to fix a link to a deisambiguation page. I will put it on my watchlist for a while though to keep an eye on things. I see you are discussing the issue on the article talkpage which is a good start. Let's see how things go.--BelovedFreak 21:00, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.
Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:31, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I appreciate your concerns about the tone I set with my RfA. I would never use the tools to make a point, but it's not fair to expect people to trust me on that when my RfA raises POINT concerns just on its own. In general, I tend to dance too close to POINT violations in wikipedia-space on a regular basis, and while I would strictly avoid any POINT violations involving the tools in the same way that I strictly avoid POINT violations in mainspace, it's impossible for people to be sure of that. Much thanks for taking the time to consider me. Mr. IP Defender of Open Editing 14:31, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles.
