Attention

I do not check this page very often, so do not expect a quick response to any comment you may leave (not that I've been put under a lot of pressure to respond quickly). This should explain why my responses are usually 2, or 3, or several month's worth of days late. You've been warned! BeefJeaunt

Welcome to Wikipedia edit

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay.

You may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset.

If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions.

For help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style.

If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ.

If you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)!

There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library.

Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal.

Feel free to post questions on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you. You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.

You may want to add yourself to the new user log.

If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.

On IRC, check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.

If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Happy Wiki-ing. Kf4bdy

PS: This is not a bot and you did nothing to prompt this message. This is just a friendly welcome by a fellow Wikipedian.

Userbox template format edit

I noticed you've made some userboxes. However, the format is somewhat wrong. You've been doing Template:User BeefJeaunt/Ninty WiFi, when really you should keep these in your user space, in the form User:BeefJeaunt/Ninty WiFi. I moved a few to show you, but please move the rest and change the links. Thanks! Andre (talk) 01:50, 6 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Congrats! edit

You have been named one of User:Editor37's favourite users! You rock!

Re: Your userbox edit

I like it! The only improvement I can think of would be to say "This user tends to write or speak in long spiels" instead. I think it's good. --Editor37 23:05, 20 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Misunderstanding edit

I'm not offended by your response but replying to it. You said you found it bizarre how Americans have no problems with violence in their entertainment but sex or nudity was taboo. My response is that if you look at the way most Americans are (especially the conservatives/republicans) including their president, you'd see that this is the way they are in real life. They appear to almost celebrate killing & blowing other people up for whatever reason. But sex on the otherhand is taboo, evil etc. Nil Einne 13:12, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I took a closer look at the thread. You appear to have misunderstood my response. I was replying to 惑乱 分からん. It is normal practice that when you are replying to someone's post you do it the way I did it. If you read what 惑乱 分からん and then what I said, you may understand what I was trying to say. If not, try reading what I striked out above. I apologise if you were offended by me response or thought it OT Nil Einne 13:28, 14 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem. As I noted elsewhere, although I felt my comment was a bit appropriate and obviously unrelated to your question, I didn't mean to single anyone out or offend anyone personally and it's disconcerting that people think I did. I just wanted to express a view on an issue which someone else raised. It appears you weren't the only one who misunderstood how my comment was directed so I've struck out my comment. I'm still a bit surprised but it's not the first time I've had problems at the reference desk (albeit of a different nature). Perhaps I'm too used to forums. The science reference desk seems to be the safest for me, I'll probably stay there...
Anyway just wanted to let you know you've been pleasent to deal with, especially considering some of the dealings I've had recently with other matters. So don't worry about the odd mistake you make, I obviously made one as well in this (and other instances).
Cheers Nil Einne 16:53, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

Thanks for your comment on the Entertainment Reference Desk. BeefJeaunt 19:02, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. Don't read Hannibal Rising, it's rubbish. Proto:: 14:39, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

So where did you get the idea to put all the userboxes you like in subpages? -PatPeter 19:29, 31 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanx edit

Great userboxes, by the way, wanted to inform you that you spelled "view" wrong on your user page. NovaVeritas 23:04, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Science Desk edit

Interesting. I was just playing devil's advocate...the more info you provide the more intriguing it sounds.

To be realistic though, they're unlikely to get very far without opening it up to professional scrutiny. And if it is really a new species or whatever and it's clearly them that have found it, you'd have to assume good faith in the professionals that they will be given credit for it (it's not as though they're likely make much financial gain from it say, regardless of how novel a fish it is). Just sitting around showing it nobody will get them nowhere and just increase the chances of someone else finding one 'first'. Cheers, --jjron 08:06, 24 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lactose/lactate edit

You're right; I meant lactate (a.k.a. lactic acid) and not lactose. I try to live by Wikipedia's policy of "Assume good faith". (EhJJ) 03:50, 22 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reference Desk : Computers - DVD Flick edit

No problem for the DVD Flick tip. Glad to share my experience because it took me *days* to find a good software to convert AVI to DVD. All the others were OK, but occasionally and randomly failed in odd ways (like dropping audio, never finishing a conversion, changing all flesh tones to blue colour). Please tell me if DVD Flick works for you. Freedomlinux (talk) 01:01, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

mario pic edit

Hi BeefJeaunt, the problem with that image is that characters can be copyrighted, just as images can. Nintendo probably can't claim that their copyright is infringed by any anthropomorphic mushroom, but it's clear from the animation (next to pipe, the style, etc.) that this is supposed to be referring to copyrighted mario characters. Similarly, fan art of Mickey Mouse is non-free because of the copyright over Mickey Mouse (if that's a helpful analogy). Calliopejen1 (talk) 22:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please attribute or claim media you uploaded or restored: File:Samus Visor.gif edit

You uploaded or restored , File:Samus Visor.gif, but for various reasons did not add an {{information}} block, or indicate your (user) name on the file description page. Media uploaded to Wikipedia needs information on the SPECIFIC authorship and source of files, to ensure that it complies with copyright laws in various jurisdictions.

If it's entirely your own work:
please include {{own}} in the relevant source field, amend the {{information}} added by a third party, ensuring that your user name (or name you want used for attribution) is clear in the author field, and change the license to an appropriate "self" variant (if such a license is not already used). You should also add an |author= parameter to the license tag, to assist reviews and image patrollers. You can also add |claimed=yes and an |author=to the {{media by uploader}} or {{presumed_self}} tag if it is present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the {{information}} where appropriate).

If it's not entirely your own work, or the media is based on the work of others:
Please update the source and authorship fields, so that they accurately reflect the source and authors of the original work(s), as well as the derivative you created. You should also not use a "self" license unless the work is entirely you own. Media that is incorrectly claimed as self or {{own}}, will eventually be listed at Files for Discussion or deleted, unless it's full status is entirely clear to other contributors, reviewers and image patrollers. You should also read Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission which details how to confirm any permissions you obtained for works by others that are still in copyright.

Whilst this notification, relates to a single media upload, it would also be appreciated if you could ensure that appropriate attribution exists for other media you uploaded, You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

It's okay to remove or strike messages like this once the concerns have been addressed. :).
