Hi there. I added a photo to the Sil Lai Abrams Wiki page and it has been removed. It is not in violation of Wikipedia standards. Why did this occur and how can it be added back? Baxter91 (talk) 16:57, 22 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Articles for Creation edit

Hey, Baxter91. I thought that, since this is your first time creating an article for Wikipedia, I should let you know about something we have that's designed to help your article avoid deletion after it exits what we call draftspace (where you article is now). It's called Articles for Creation. They will help you avoid Articles for Deletion by making sure it has as few problems with it (no advertisement-type language, it has a neutral point of view, etc.) as possible. If you do want to use AfC, be sure to put {{subst:AFC draft}} (exactly as it appears, including the curly braces) at the very top of your draft. This will give you a box at the top of your draft that gives you links to different guidelines, etc., that will help you make your draft better. It will also give you a large blue button that says "Submit your draft for review!" Clicking it and then clicking Save page will move the box to the bottom of the page and put it in the draft submission queue. Alternatively, if you don't want the "not submitted" box on your draft page but you still want to use AfC, you can put {{subst:submit}} (again, exactly as it appears, including the curly braces) at the very bottom of your draft and click Save page when you believe your draft is ready for submission. This will give you the same end result as the first method. Anyway, once your draft is submitted, an AfC reviewer (someone who is a very experienced editor who has created quite a few articles on their own) will get to your draft within the next couple of weeks after you submit your draft and either let you know what you can do to make it better or tell you that it's ready and move it out of draftspace for you. (AfC is usually backed up because of how many drafts from new users they get, so don't be surprised if you have to wait two to three weeks. You can continue improving your draft in the mean time, but don't touch the template code at the bottom of the draft.) Gestrid (talk) 06:45, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Autobiography edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself, at Draft:Sil Lai Abrams. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. LX (talk, contribs) 11:02, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@LX: Thanks for reaching out. I understand, however I have written this in a neutral tone as per guidelines, without any promotional attempts. When I googled myself, one of the most popular searches is "Sil Lai Abrams wiki". Given that others are seeking it, I decided to create it, as I have a vested interest in ensuring as a public figure that any information posted on me in cyberspace is accurate, and I would be the best person to do that. I have seen threads about me on other sites where people have posted inaccurate information about me and I have ZERO control over that (sites like Lipstick Alley, for example - gossip sites). With that being said, are you saying that because I wrote it, my page will automatically be deleted? Or is there an independent review that is done to determine if it is being done for informational vs promotional purposes? Many thanks in advance for your assistance. Baxter91 (talk) 17:09, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Having a vested interest in information about oneself is precisely the reason that the subjects of Wikipedia's articles are not the best candidates to write those articles, but quite possibly the worst. I appreciate that you have tried to be neutral, but no other encyclopedia would allow people or organizations to be the editors of their own entries. I don't know what will happen to your draft, but the fact that it's an autobiography will surely be taken into account when evaluating it. LX (talk, contribs) 17:19, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
@LX: Got it. I searched for a way to delete it, but apparently that is out of my hands. Baxter91 (talk) 18:22, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Now that we know for sure that you have a conflict of interest with your draft, I would recommend using Articles for Creation even more than I did above. I can go ahead and add the AfC box to your draft if you'd like.
Also, I would like to clarify that no one here owns an article, whether or not they were the ones who created it. After all, this is the encyclopedia anyone can edit. It's likely that, as soon as your draft is approved by an AfC reviewer (This would be the "independent review" that you asked about above.), it will be cleaned up by other editors. By "cleaned up", I mean that it will be edited to make it flow better, and other things like that. Also, since, as I said, nobody here owns articles, some content that you may not like may make its way into the article. Keep in mind that, because of our Biographies of Living Persons Policy, all information of that sort must be well-sourced by reliable sources (in Wikipedia's sense of the phrase) in order to be included. Otherwise, it would then be removed.
If you would rather not go through the Articles for Creation process I mentioned above and would rather instead delete your draft, place {{db-u1}} at the top of your draft. That will let administrators know that you want it deleted. (You can also do this with Template:Sil Lai Abrams by doing the same thing.) If you ever want your draft back for some reason, you can ask for a refund. On the page I just linked, you would type Draft:Sil Lai Abrams.

@Gestrid: Thank you for your recommendation. I will follow your instructions listed above...if you would add the AfC box to my draft that would be great. I understand that no one owns an article and the risks of even having one, but it is a popular search and I figure I might as well provide it to those seeking information on me. Question: Right now it is flagged by LX with the note "A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject." If I go through the AfC process, will that notation be removed? Or will it stay, regardless? If that is the case, I will just delete it instead. Baxter91 (talk) 18:18, 28 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
It will stay until after it has been moved out of draftspace and has been edited by several other users. After that, anyone is free to remove the notice. Gestrid (talk) 18:27, 28 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I've added the box to your draft. When you believe it's ready to submit for review, you can click the big blue button. Also, I should tell you that there's no limit on how many times you submit your draft.
@Gestrid: Thank you so very much. You've been super, super helpful! Also, when you say anyone is free to remove the notice, does that include me? Baxter91 (talk) 23:20, 28 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, no. If you removed it, other editors may view that in a bad way. Gestrid (talk) 01:22, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Gestrid: Okay. Got it. Thanks for the heads up. Have a good night/day! Baxter91 (talk) 02:20, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Gestrid: One last thing - do you know how I can get the ban from me uploading photos to Wikimedia lifted? Thanks in advance. Baxter91 (talk) 02:22, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
That wasn't a block. I looked into it a bit more, and it appears that you triggered an edit filter. The upload was stopped by an automated process. I don't know much about edit filters, so I'll ask MusikAnimal, someone I know is good with edit filters, to let you know what happened and (if needed) what to do. No need for you to go to their userpage and ask. They'll come here. Gestrid (talk) 02:55, 29 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Watch this box:
This user has been on Wikipedia for 7 years and 6 months.
After it hits 6 months and 1 day on the 25th (maybe earlier that day, check your preferences for exactly 180 days from account creation), you should be able to upload here without triggering edit filter 153. For uploading your own work photos on Commons or here, I suggest uploading the largest version of each that you can find with the name of each photographer, followed by permission submission via WP:OTRS specifying how you got the copyrights from the photographers.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 08:05, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
