Citations

If you haven't seen this yet, please check out User:Diberri's Wikipedia template filling tool. Given a PubMed ID, one can quickly produce a full citation that can be copied and pasted into a Wikipedia article. Conflict of interest

Hi. I have noticed that you have included the following figure:

In the following articles:

• Dual oxidase 2
• Lactoferrin
• Lactoperoxidase
• Hypothiocyanite
• Thiocyanate

There are a number of problems with this. First and foremost, this figure was taken from promotional material for the drug Meveol. While the figure does illustrate an endogenous antimicrobial defense mechanism, it also illustrates the mechanism of action of Mevol. Hence there is a major conflict of interest, especially since it appears that you are affiliated with the company Alaxia that is developing Mevol. Second, there is a problem of WP:Undue weight. The protein or chemical pages mentioned above have additional functions not associated with this particular defense mechanism. These articles are starting to become overwhelmed by the detail devoted to this very specialized subtopic. Third, there is a large amount of duplication of essentially the same subject matter in five different articles. This duplication of subject matter is starting to resemble spam. Finally the figure does not make very efficient use of space and difficult to read because of the dark background. This may be appropriate for a PowerPoint presentation, but it is not very suitable for inclusion into Wikipedia.

In my opinion, the best was to resolve this problem is for someone with no connection to Alaxia (e.g., myself) to create an article on this antimicrobial defense mechanism. This article would include a more detailed discussion of the mechanism of action where as the other articles could briefly mention the mechanism and refer to this new article. In addition, the new article could make explicit reference to the drug Meveol.

In order to avoid any conflict of interest in this new article, my suggestion is that your contributions to this article be restricted to adding suggestions to the talk page. It would then be up to an independent editor not connected with Alaxia to make a judgement as to what material would be appropriate to include in the article.

because you are both right and wrong

You are right saying the connections with thiocyanate, lactoperoxidase,...

You are wrong on the issue as the lung defence system is running like this

My point is that the main subject matter of the five articles mentioned above is not about the lung defense system but rather a chemical or a protein. It would be better to move this material to a new specialized article about this lung defense system. Boghog (talk) 11:12, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Of course this is about the lung antimicrobial defense system. Where did I imply that it wasn't? But again this is not the central issue. The central issue is a conflict of interest. There is a secondary issue of where best to include this material. My proposal is to create a new article about the lung antimicrobial defense system and remove the overly specialized details from the above five mentioned articles. Does this sound reasonable? Respiratory tract antimicrobial defense system

Hi. As promised, a first draft of the article with the above title has been created. I hope this looks OK. I took the liberty of expanding the scope slightly from lung to respiratory track. Basically, OK Except one important thing OSCN is not a ROS. OSCN is an anion and doesn't belong to the ROS Family Lactoperoxidase job is also to detoxify ROS, not to produce !!

I think this is matter of sematics. Superoxide is also an anion (albeit a radical anion) and is classfied as a reactive oxygen species. Furthermore, broad definitions of reactive oxygen species include down stream reactive intermediates, But I am not going to argue the point further. Boghog (talk) 19:52, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi. The first page of the Meveol abstract contains essentially the same figure as Schemaduoxlpo_en.jpg, except the background is white instead of blue. In my opinion, the white background looks much better. Would it be possible to replace Schemaduoxlpo_en.jpg with version based on the one in the abstract? Boghog 19:02, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately the linked file has security restrictions (according to Adbobe Acrobat, "content copying or extraction" is not allowed without a password.).
