Welcome from Redwolf24 edit

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (Redwolf24 07:49, 10 July 2005 (UTC)) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (Redwolf24) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.Reply

P.S. I like messages :-P

Welcome 2 edit

Welcome! (We can't say that loud/big enough!)

Here are a few links you might find helpful:

If you have any questions or problems, no matter what they are, leave me a message on my talk page.

We're so glad you're here! -- Essjay · Talk 07:54, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

Welcomes? edit

Gah! Why are so many people welcoming me all of a sudden? Did I screw up an edit somewhere? >.> AySz88 08:03, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

NO! There's a welcoming committee here, and if your talk page looks empty, you're liable to get a welcome. (Also, I was watching realtime Recent Changes and saw RedWolf's welcome, so I dropped by to leave my own.) You haven't done anything wrong, we just want you to know you're welcome here! -- Essjay · Talk 08:04, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

All right :) Thanks for the links and offers to help! AySz88 08:06, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

You're welcome (in the other sense of "welcome), and sorry we sacred you! -- Essjay · Talk 08:07, July 10, 2005 (UTC)

HELP!! Need to log out other sessions edit

I'm hoping someone's watching the recent changes. Someone seems to have added several pages to my watchlist somehow, such as Ice Cream Truck - can someone please tell me how to log out any other computers that might be logged into this username? AySz88 21:15, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

Heh, never mind! It was because Neopets got vandalized. AySz88 21:19, July 21, 2005 (UTC)

Of Daemons edit

Hi there, Thanks for correcting my part on the dæmons article. I wasn't sure whether that was the case (I had heard so), and so because I had no source to back it up, I did not write it in. I'm a big fan of HDM, and I've done a lot of things to do with dæmons, although it's Okibi of TDP you want to ask about them. However because so much is speculation (as Pullman hasn't said a lot about them himself in the books), it doesn't really fit in Wikipedia, which is a shame, because it's a deep subject. Are you a fan of Pullman's?

Cheers again, Jalada

Yeah, I'm a friend of Kris/Okibi, and pretty much a big fan of HDM; I used to be an administrator at Bridge to the Stars. I haven't done anything in BTTS or TDP since maybe the beginning of last year, though, but I've kept in contact with Kris and Daniel. I wish that I could add more about our concept of dæmons according to fans like Okibi. But yeah, it's too small right now for Wikipedia, and honestly we'd probably start getting vandalism from the new-regime BTTS admins (though I haven't been there in a while either; maybe things are better now, but they treated us pretty badly).
Anyway, welcome to Wikipedia! :) AySz88^-^ 20:44, August 3, 2005 (UTC)
Hehe thanks, I helped re-do TDP (look at the bottom of the page, and there's my name!), although at the moment for some reason the whole page is a marquee...I think something went weird there. I have also not done a lot with BTTS or TDP, I used to be on The Dæmon Forum quite a lot. But it got really out of hand when people starting trolling it. Especially when BTTS called us all a bunch of raving lunatics. You're right, BTTS did go downhill, which is why I left that whole "scene" so to speak.
See you around! Jalada

Regarding the Neopets RfC edit

You should probably give it more time, as Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Style issues is not very active. There are also alternative solutions, such as asking for the opinion of editors you respect. This sort of discussion generally does not require input from more than a few people for consesus to build. Cheers, --Sn0wflake 01:06, 6 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Your query edit

The pertaining user was making "funny" articles about (presumably) real persons (in the like ness of: "....Ms. X has big b--bs...", which are considered vandalism and had consequently to be speedy deleted (that's why they don't show up in the contributions). Happy editing. Lectonar 08:41, 31 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Hey - I'm not sure if this is the right mechanism to ask this - but I got a note from you saying I shouldn't revert the 2005 hurricane article again. I noted the request and complied with it. Now I've had another note from someone else saying that I'm being blocked for violating the rule, which I don't believe I've done. What's going on here?

Button bar edit

Well done with the buttons. I think the only complaint others will have is the size of the bar. I wonder if there is a way to create a transparent div or table cel such that when floating over it it always displays the tool tip. Yet that may interfere with the link. Eitherway, I will be back in about a month. --Ctrl buildtalk 15px| 15:00, 13 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Venn diagrams edit

Hello,

I made some edits to the Venn diagrams page, and you then had to mend some language things - was this because I damaged them somehow? The (chinese?) characters show up as question marks in my browser, so I'm worried that my edits might be corrupting things my browser can't handle.

I'd like to edit the Venn page some more, but will hold off until you reply. Thanks, Squiddy 10:17, 19 November 2005 (UTC) (talk)Reply

Storms section edit

Okay, the storms section gives good overview of all the storms of the season. Having something like this is called 'discussing in detail'. People read about Dennis, Emily, Katrina, Ophelia, Rita, Stan, Vince, Wilma and Alpha in the season summery. Then they say, "What about the 15 other storms of the season. Weren't there 24?" Without the storms section, the article seems incomplete. Discussing every storm in detail tells you everything you could possibly want to know about the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. It leaves no lingering questions. Does that make sense? -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 23:08, 19 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

My Signature edit

You asked me to change my signature to {{subst:Template:User:Super-Magician/Signature}}; however, that template has another link to my other template, {{Template:User:Super-Magician/Signature_full}}. I understand that doing so reduces the load on the Wikimedia servers, but if you look at the "Signature full" template, you'll see that it is (almost) a copy of {{Template:User2}}. There is a lot of text in this template, and I don't want to clutter up the editing box with all of this stuff. -- Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 16:34, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your thought :). However, by doing so, I'll probably have no use for my signature templates, except for on my user page. -- Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 16:43, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
~Update!~ I tried placing the result of the substs in the raw signature box, but it resulted in a "Invalid raw signature - check HTML tags" error. Although it says not to use templates with this, I tried the signature with the template and it resulted in no error. Any suggestions? -- Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 17:03, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again! -- Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 17:47, 4 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I fixed my signature. What you put between the <nowiki></nowiki> tags actually didn't stay that way when I viewed the page. The & (ampersand) notation changed back to regular ampersands (&). Also, when I placed exactly what you typed in my raw signature box, and tested it, the ampersands stayed as &. I ended up removing all of those but the one in the URL, and it worked fine. Thanks for all your help! -- Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 00:57, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry about it! But, if I copied what I saw on the page, there would be no & when I pasted it into the source code. -- Super-Magician (talk • contribs • count) ★ 01:12, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I re-reverted myself because the article itself says that there were 1,384 casualties... although right now, I can't seem to find a source for that. Feel free to change that number to 1,325, though. Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 04:02, 13 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Well, this source, from today, says 1,323... I imagine it depends how much you broaden the area hit by the hurricane. Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 04:14, 13 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. The detailed casualties table could probably need updating too... Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 04:27, 13 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm pretty sure that the newspapers we quoted got their numbers from the official state sources, so it should be safe to add them. That said, we probably should find those for ourselves... Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 04:50, 13 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Well, that puts us in a little bit of a conundrum, doesn't it? Now I really don't know what to do... it might be a good idea to put this on the Talk page for the hurricane season, since I don't know how many editors are watching the Katrina talk page. User boxes edit

To be honest, that is what I would like too, just to keep them that way, eliminating the categories (which leaves the Whatlinkshere method of watching who has transcluded them), and just punishing those who abuse the system. Just that over the last few days, my confidence in our policing/dispute resolution process has been shaken considerably, so I'm not completely sure that throwing more subjectivity to the issue will work. That said, I would strongly endorse what you propose.

By the way, thanks for the kind comments on my talk page. :) I'm not going to leave permanently, but I'm going to be just coming here every now and then until the stress from this situation goes away completely. subst:clear edit

Why do you subst:clear in the 2005 AHS? Seems to me it's a lot more readible and, well, cleaner in the template form. And yes I'm aware of so-called technical issues with heavily-used templates. Jdorje 04:09, 10 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dab pages edit

We could easily change it to accept both cases; it just uses a {{switch}} template. However you can also easily see the ones with invalid classes given, in Category:Unassessed_hurricane_articles. Jdorje 19:50, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not sure why I didn't make it accept both cases...I just thought it would be better to enforce consistency. In the long run it will probably be slightly easier if each class just has one possible name. Jdorje 19:51, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
And also BTW, I have stopped going through the articles in a consisten fashion; now I just assess them as they show up in the above category. Jdorje 19:51, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Most annoying problem is that just fixing the hurricane template isn't enough to recategorize the articles. They won't get automatically recategorized for some time. Jdorje 19:58, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Flcelloguy's Tool edit

Hello, AySz88. Since you are an advanced Java programmer, you might be interested in the Flcelloguy's Tool program. We've been working on it for quite a while now, and since we're in the Atlantic "off-season" (if Alberto doesn't play us a joke), you might have the time to help us. I've been trying to code it, but I'm not a Java programmer, I'm a "native" QBasic coder, and I'm trying to see if I can find other users who want to help or have any suggestions as to what to do. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 23:44, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, right now we don't have hosting (that's soon to change, though :)), so the only way to do so is to send you the JAR file from the current version on an email. I'd need your email address first, though, so send me an email (unless you want to release your email address under the GFDL... which I imagine you don't! :P) if you are interested it. Before you do so, though, which IDE are you using? Titoxd(?!? - help us) 00:16, 12 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm using Eclipse too, so that shouldn't be a problem. :) By the way, I'm going to send you the JAR file for the "Stable" version (the one I have on the subpage). There's been a few features added, but they haven't been tested properly, and I'll merge the codes when they are released, ok? Titoxd(?!? - help us) 00:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, Flcelloguy is working on the PurgeContribs class, but everything else is fair game. For now, I'd recommend just running it and getting used to it, and thinking of things you could do with it, after all, you can't code something you don't know where to code, right? :). Titoxd(?!? - help us) 00:53, 12 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, I had begun automating it a little bit, but I keep running into a many problems. Here's a copy of my code right now [4]
The hello at the end is just to tell me that file reading had finished. However, I keep getting a time-out after about 2000 edits... but it seems that the method you're using is better. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 20:47, 15 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm being nosy again. :) That's great news that you might be able to get the tool to fetch pages itself. Once you get this working, perhaps it's not much more difficult to also fetch the Special:Export page as described here, and thus move the script towards working on non-English servers? I mention this again, because there are wikipedia sites (ko is one, I think) that don't have their databases replicated to the toolserver, and thus users on those sites aren't able to do any sort of automated edit-counting. --Interiot 19:29, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • By the way, I've played around a bit with your code. I'm putting it on your sandbox right now, so you can have a look at it (but I haven't removed the debugging echo prints). Titoxd(?!? - help us) 21:28, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
    • Looks great! :D I'm not sure how costly a killbit query is, but the &action=raw method does not need the page to be rendered, which is where the Wikimedia servers are strained the most. The only thing I would do is to make getSourceDirect(URL) private (I've already done so in my local copy without problems) and cache the killbit per query (that is, if you're making four page requests, make the program read the killbit just once). Titoxd(?!? - help us) 22:49, 16 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
      • Sorry for being under the radar the last few days, I've been a bit busy. We could move all discussion to a centralized page, but that would probably be something that we could do later, as we still are a small group that can work by pinging a few talk pages. :) As for the GUI, do whatever you think is most useful. That is really something I don't know how to do, and basically worked by looking at examples. Just make sure you keep the new ResultsFrame.java in a JFrame and to make sure that the function calls are done correctly. I've also seen that you've worked on integrating getContribs() with the rest of the program, and that is excellent. The only thing I would say is to keep the Stats.mainSingle() and Stats.mainMulti() functions as backups/backward-compatibility tools. So, just create a mainParse() function or something and you'll be all right.
      • Also, Your hashmap function is spiffy! :D We might want to combine it with Contrib.nameSpaceArray, to finish off internationalization... Titoxd(?!? - help us) 02:19, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

My ambiguous comment edit

I meant that I felt you were acting imperiously in handling matters relating to the removal of the storms secton. You, among others, seemed to have a complete disregard for other people's objections to the change. Also, you seem to be very willing to revert anyone who tries to make big changes that you disagree with without discussing it first. That's just my perception. I used "imperious" mainly for lack of a better word. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 05:50, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

From what I've seen, you just seem to be refuting other peoples' objections instead of understanding or attempting to understand them; or trying to reach a compromise. You just keep saying no and repeating the same reasons over and over again as if you had not even read the previous comment. If you did read those posts, you never seemed to understand them. Bottom line: I think you need to be more accepting or show more acceptance toward peoples' views. -- §Hurricane ERIC§ archive -- my dropsonde 06:30, 21 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

2005 AHS References discussion edit

Copied from my talk page:

I removed the links to the NHC archives because the ultimate goal is to use only storm reports (and HPC archives) as references. Directing people to the NHC archives is unhelpful as it forces the reader to sift through the NHC's archive for information. This can't be helped with the HPC, but it can be helped for the NHC. Right now many storms are unreferenced, but they'll all be referenced by about March. - Cuivienen 02:09, 24 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Toolcruft 4.0 edit

Ah, midterms. I know, those are horrible (I'm just restarting school, but my courseload is heavier this semester than last), and don't worry about it, school comes before any other obligation.

As for Eric's comment. Well, I think it comes from honest frustation of having developed a system after hard work, and to see it modified, criticized and sometimes discarded completely (like we did with the storm color pallette). He offers comments on being better at compromising; regardless of what we've done in the past, that is always good advice. So, while you shouldn't be worried about whether you did things in a bad manner (which you didn't), you can also try to keep improving, by making an effort to understand where other users come from. Ah! This is the diff that's killing it: [5]. It creeps out when you don't leave an edit summary, but you leave an section edit autocomment. Hmm... is there a way to split a String to find "" in the middle? Titoxd(?!? - help us) 22:05, 28 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

The thing is, if you do String.split("<"), you get <a href's (from the link to the section via the right arrow) and all kinds of nasty things. I don't like Tokenizers much either, but the other method (iterate the string and compare character by character) seems UGLY (and slow). By the way, I use User:EvilCat's contribs to test the tool too. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 22:09, 28 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... the only problem that that method had was that the top edit (marked by <strong> (top)</strong>) appears after the edit summary, so the tokenizer could not be discarded... but then, we could process it beforehand, by using String.contains("<strong> (top)</strong>"). So, I'll try to have a hack at it later, when I finish having lunch. Thanks! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 22:45, 28 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Huh? It didn't do that for me... and that part of the program hasn't given me any trouble before. Are you parsing your own contributions? Titoxd(?!? - help us) 04:12, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I just ran it again, and it didn't say anything... I also didn't change that part of the code, so it shouldn't be saying anything! :| Try recompliling it and hopefully it works... Titoxd(?!? - help us) 04:21, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ah, that's better. I was scared for a second. However, isn't it possible to change the encoding in getContribs() to Unicode? I remember reading something like that a long time ago, but I can't remember where (not needed, though). Perhaps changing StringBuilder to StringBuffer would help? (no clue) Titoxd(?!? - help us) 05:05, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Namespace class edit

I was actually going to go over it right now, but it would be better if you gave a small description of what it does, so I know what to look for... ;) Where does the class store the editing statistics, for example? That could replace a lot of crude code in Stats.editcount() and Contrib.namespaceArray... Titoxd(?!? - help us) 06:39, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok, a few notes on Namespace.java:

  1. It should be able to process a Contrib() object directly. That class is not going to change per the API I'm using, and if it does, it should implement new methods, instead of overriding old ones. Besides, PurgeContribs(), Contrib's parent class, is now working correctly, and I've tested it by throwing 10000 edits at it, so it should be safe to rely on it.
  2. If I analyzed it correctly, (which I'm not sure I did), it does not have all possible combinations of edit summaries (a bore, I know):
    1. Minor edit with autosummary and manual summary
    2. Minor edit with autosummary, no manual summary
    3. Minor edit no autosummary, but with manual summary
    4. Minor edit with neither autosummary nor manual summary
    5. Major edit with autosummary and manual summary
    6. Major edit with autosummary, no manual summary
    7. Major edit no autosummary, but with manual summary
    8. Major edit with neither autosummary nor manual summary
  3. I don't get TreeSet completely, but if I understand correctly, you could run an edit analysis similar to Interiot's contribution tree, just by making calls to newArticleArray? :D
  4. This class completely overrides Contrib.namespaceArray (which is unused), so probably this class can be initialized by calling it from there? (Not sure)
  5. Question: what happens if the server connection times out?

Overall, great job! Two thumbs up!!! :D Titoxd(?!? - help us) 07:12, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, we can't process Nm / N marks from Special:Contributions, as they don't appear in the output that's processed by the tool. However, being able to use TreeMaps to do something like the contrib tree (and perhaps even make date-restricted queries?) is certianly helpful. As for the UI, perhaps what it would require is a new internal frame, with the namespaces on the left, and once a namespace is clicked, it can show up more detailed contributions; then we could have a "global" button to see contributions for all namespaces. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 01:10, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... I thought that Namespace() stored the Contribs themselves? (And yeah, it might become a memory hog, and that's why it is only a secondary feature of the tool, not the main purpose) ;) Contrib() can be extended to receive the date as a String, and then convert it inside with a .getDateLong() or something, which shouldn't be hard to do (if I figure out how to do it), so I'll try to do that. But it's more urgent to integrate Namespace() and GetContribs() to process the capabilities that are already coded. :) Titoxd(?!? - help us) 04:42, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I posted a copy of the draft at User:Titoxd/Sandbox. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it keeps throwing an exception... Titoxd(?!? - help us) 04:42, 30 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've fixed the code, it can now assign the date inside a GregorianCalendar() (just like the Namespace() class), but for some reason I can't figure out, it is ignoring the time. Any ideas? Titoxd(?!? - help us) 05:56, 31 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... it's not doing it now. Weird. As for the extra seconds: I see what you mean, and I've fixed it now. You can call Contrib.getDate() and it should work now. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 06:31, 31 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure if you've gotten the same version as me, but I've posted an updated version of Contrib.java on the Java Sandbox. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 03:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Moral panic and wikipedia edit

Howdy! I saw your note in WP:AN wondering if there was anything in Wikipedia namespace about moral panic. I started work on a possible suggested guideline to the effect and would like your feedback: User:Chairboy/Panic. Thanks! - CHAIRBOY () 07:12, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thank you for telling me about it! It's nice writing, and I'm reading it over. It seems like it concentrates more a "slow down" kind of message than a moral panic kind of "don't panic", though that isn't a bad thing. It's definately applicable to a moral panic kind of situation, but I thought that maybe something more specific against moral panics might be needed.... There are things like POV or factuality issues with them in general, and many panics are generated outside of Wikipedia by the general media without people being aware of them; I think your paragraph focuses on panics triggered within Wikipedia. Maybe it's just because you didn't start with the "molesting dogs" example early in the paragraph, so the context ("someone has said something") seems unclear?
Maybe replace "like to molest dogs" with "would like to molest dogs", as AFAIK molesting dogs is illegal and can be reported to police (I think it might fall under Cruelty to animals or something)? Raul654 also posted at WP:AN about a possible new guideline "Don't put anything on your userpage that could bring the project into disrepute", which might significantly affect the "The press!" part of your examples.
Sorry I'm being so nitpicky! Thanks for showing it to me. :) --AySz88^-^ 08:03, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Great feedback, thanks! Please feel free to edit it yourself to make the changes if you feel it has potential to expand into something for the project. Thanks! - CHAIRBOY () 08:07, 6 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Eep! As I was looking through your contribs for a more detailed analysis, I saw that you got very small participation on WP:AFD and WP:RFA (and I really recommend you go over there a few times). Some users take exceptions to low participation there, so I'll postpone the nomination until you tell me you feel comfortable with your level of experience, all right? But I've got first dibs on you! Point me in the right direction, please edit

Let me first say that I am a retired chemical engineer and I just got started in the Wiki world a few weeks ago in one of the WikiCities at http://atmosphericdispersion.wikicities.com/wiki/Main_Page. In posting some technical articles there, I learned how to use their version of the math markup language. Here is an example mathematical formula developed with their math markup language:  .

Then I moved here to the Wikipedia where I learned how to use the version of the math markup language available here and this is the same equation using the Wikipedia math markup:

In my opinion, the math markup language version available at the WikiCities is remarkably smaller and more tidy than the math markup version available here at the Wikipedia. Being smaller and tidier, it allows for longer formulas without having to "wrap" them or break them into two parts.

I would like to suggest that the proper people at Wikipedia consider making the WikiCities version also available here ... not necessarily to replace what is available here, but to offer the WikiCities version as an alternative option.

As new as I am to all this, I don't know who to contact or where to make this suggestion. Can you help me?

Thanks in advance. mbeychok 04:16, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mbeychok is archiving his talk page entries after reading them, which concealed my message to him which may be of interest to you. I found a way to implement the smaller font which he prefers by using the begin{matrix} tag:

I don't know what is different about the coding at the Wikicities site, either. --Blainster 11:13, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Just some comments that might clear up some confusion:
  • The writeup on how to use TeX markup is the same at WikiCities as at Wikipedia because they both use TeX.
  • Note that the developers at Bugzilla named my suggested bug as "Use Wikicities' TeX fonts for rendering math on Wikimedia projects". That indicates to me that the fonts used at WikiCities are smaller than the fonts used at Wikipedia even though they both use the same markup methodology.
  • I did a search here on Wikipedia for TeX and for LaTex and found articles for both of them. If you read those, it becomes obvious that there are literally dozens of versions and implementations of Tex. It is my guess that WikiCities just has a version that uses a smaller font.
Thanks to both of you for your help and interest. mbeychok 16:58, 9 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've updated the Sandbox with the new code. I made a very... spaghetticized function of code, as for some reason I can't figure out how to use OR in Java correctly... :S However, the function itself should work. I've also updated Stats.java a bit, so it reads the diff link, but it doesn't do anything with it yet. I want for it not be read automatically, to avoid a DOS attack venue, but rather for the Tool to say, "5000 diffs read. Click yes to continue" or something similar. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 05:38, 19 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I was able to make it work! :). The updated code is now in the sandbox. The only thing we have to do is to look at it, make sure it works, make the code more efficient, and then, parse and compile to release the JAR... :D Titoxd(?!? - help us) 02:48, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I've made a bit of changes to Namespace.java and Contrib.java, and the code is available on the Sandbox. Titoxd(?!? - help us) 04:03, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, the method I implemented in Namespace configures a "default" map if for some reason the call to GetContribs() fails (for example, if the kill bit is set), only that i don't know where to call it from. Perhaps in the catch block of Namespace.getNamespaceTreeMap()? Titoxd(?!? - help us) 05:29, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hmm... it seems you're not identified to services, so it doesn't let you send me messages... as for the tool, we should probably put a popup message when GetContrib is running that says, "Connecting to en.wikipedia.org" or something similar. Then, I was trying to add a progress bar when it was downloading the data, but that is a GUI tool, so I'm not really comfortable doing it... Titoxd(?!? - help us) 05:41, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, the version on the Sandbox from this afternoon is actually more recent than the JAR I sent you... I sent the JAR because several beta-testers requested new copies of the software, so I just went out and emailed everyone who might have wanted one. And don't worry, I know what you're talking about. Boylover and girllover userboxes edit

Thank you for your input into the discussion at Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2006_February_5#Template:User_paedophile. It is unfortunate that this template was deleted with neither a good reason nor a clear consensus. I believe that by using language that lacks the criminal/abusive connotations, we can satisfy the concerns of the delete voters and create useful, less controversial userboxes. So I created Template:User boylover and Template:User girllover last night.

Unfortunately, Doc glasgow speedy deleted these templates, citing T1. T1 did not apply, and you can tell him so. Your vote at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Userbox_debates#Template:User_boylover_and_Template:User_girllover will be much appreciated. Seahen 15:27, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
