chmod comments

I am offended by your comment "add other cleanup tags because this article is not very good" especially since your global changes dod not make it any better.

What do you mean not very good?? DGerman (talk) 20:54, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

@DGerman: Hey! First and foremost, I'd like to ask you to not take any of my (or anyone else's) comments as a personal attack; the chmod article, as any other article here, doesn't belong to you, it's a community document that can and should be improved by anyone. No one is complaining about your work on it specifically, nor is anyone targeting you. We all want the same thing: a good article. The changes I made were merely following the Wikipedia guide for HTML5. I did not write the guide, I simply followed it.
There is a big difference between style and semantics. While a <code> tag might look better, if it doesn't contain actual code, then perhaps it's not the best choice, as that element indicates that the content inside is code. This isn't a rule, it's merely a suggestion, and that's why I told you in the other comment that you were free to revert any of the changes you disagree with; after all, Wikipedia is a collaboration effort.
Lastly, to me, the Command syntax section of the chmod article seemed confusing and poorly structured overall, especially when compared to File system permissions, for example. I apologise if you took offense on me calling the article "not very good"; but it was genuinely my opinion on it: I truly believe it can be improved. That doesn't mean you're a bad writer! It's not easy to write something great in one go. Everyone can use some external feedback and help from others to turn an "okay" article into a great one. And it's not your responsibility, either: if you don't feel like improving it, someone else will, eventually!
Something to keep in mind is that the people reading the article probably do not understand the topic very well (otherwise, why would they be reading it in the first place?). Therefore, it's for the best to try and keep everything as clear and concise as possible, as to not alienate non-technical readers. Try to put yourself on someone else's shoes: could a non-Linux user or, even, a non-technical person, fully compreehend that section? Would they perhaps be bored because it is too long, or confused by the amount of technical terms?
Hopefully we aren't on bad terms; I never meant to offend you in any way. Cheers! — Avelludo 20:31, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
@Avelludo: After reviewing the command syntax I cannot see how to make it clearer. Maybe I just understand it too well.

There are 3 parts: options, modes and files (as shown) each is described later in the article. Some of the included information which "duplicates the scope of other articles" is intended to clarify the usage without necessitating referring to another article. This is a very technical article, only useful for technical people, on a very technical topic and I believe it is beyond the the scope of an article to provide the background needed to understand the article. I would appreciate any suggestions you can provide.

As an aside, is there any reason that an image (green on black) with an example is useful?
