Caleb, please take a look at the article for Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and tell me if my sources are correct about the 1777 incident at Mayagüez Bay. I went to the Continental Navy's article, and could account for 11 of the 13 frigates. Were the Endowok and the Henry the other two? Demf 19:45, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

If i am not mistaken anything bigger than a fifth rate was considered a ship of the line, since Leopard was a fourth rate does that not make her a ship-of-the-line? Uss Constellation edit
Sorry for the faux pas-this was my first entry to Wiki. While I'm not familiar with the arming of the lesser known frigates I do know that the better known US frigates were never armed with the same number of guns as their rating. Also, in the Royal Navy carronade were not considered guns and were not counted as such when stating the armament of larger ships. The typical British 38 gun frigate might be armed with 22 long 18's,14 long 12's and 2 long 9 bow chasers. A US 38 like the Constellation typically carried 28 long 18's,20 x 32pdr carronades and a pair of bow chasers-50 or so cannon. The 44 gunners carried 30 long 24's,22 x 32 or 42 carronade and 2 chasers. My original source was Howard Chapelle's 'History of American Sailing Ships' which I believe was published in the 1930's. Every serious book/article I've read in the last 40 years has recognized that difference between rating and actual armament carried. The Constellation NEVER carried 38 long 18's-couldn't have done it. She was originally armed with long 24's and 12's but was changed to 18's and carronades early in her career-1799 may well be correct. I've just begun reading a book about the Essex 32 and she was carrying approx 40 carronade and 6 long guns when she was captured.Gladbag (talk) 16:23, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Updates to "Burning of Platte City" edit
I think the Burning of Platte City section needs updating based on "William M Paxton 1905 Deposition of Civil War Courthouse Burining", published in Platte County Missouri Historical & Genealogical Society Bulletin of January-April 2010. Much of the deposition confirms facts included in the Wikipedia article but does dispute the statement at the end of the article: "In 1864 he returned to Platte City and Union troops once again burned the city."
