+ I understand that you may believe the recent contributions to Arabic numerals are "a mess," but unilaterally reverting a metric ton of editing without so much as a bit of new discussion is probably bad form. I'd suggest takit it up on Talk:Arabic numberals and with the relevant editors before making further dramatic modifications to the article. It's only fair, really. Good luck and happy editing. Arabic Numerals edit

Just a note that I have taken the content that was being repeatedly added by User:Csssclll and moved it to a new article entitled Alternative views on Arabic numerals, and provided appropriate links. This should help to stem the tide of constant reverts and allow editors to focus on each respective body of material on its own. If the alternative views article seems to be a very fringe point of view on the topic it can be deleted in the future through an AfD. Peyna 17:13, 11 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Violation of WP:3RR edit

I am sorry to inform you that I am blocking you from editing Wikipedia for violation of WP:3RR. From [1], it becomes clear that you have violated 3RR with your edits between 4.06 and 17.37 UTC. While I understand that you are a new user, you should respect the policies of Wikipedia. Also, please see Talk:Arabic numerals. Please contribute positively once the block expires. Thanks and regards, --Gurubrahma 18:23, 11 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Minor edits edit

Remember to mark your edits as minor when, but only when, they genuinely are (see Wikipedia:Minor edit). Marking a major change as a minor one, or vice versa, is condsidered poor etiquette. The rule of thumb is that an edit of a page that is spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text should be flagged as a 'minor edit'. Peyna 03:11, 19 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Image:Numerals.jpg listed for deletion edit

An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:Numerals.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

I've uploaded Image:Numerals.png to replace it. The new image is cleaner (there are JPEG compression artifacts in the one you uploaded), simpler (black text on white background), and smaller (about 1.5 versus 6 KB)—Kbolino 03:37, 22 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

al-Khwarizmi edit

Please read the talk page for the reason this article says Muslim and not Persian (although it already says he was born in Persia). Cheers, —Ruud 01:49, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I know, but all the sources call him a muslim mathematician, so therefore Wikipedia should as well. Of course if you could provide some authorative sources... —Ruud 01:52, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
EB and MacTutor say he was a Muslim, which can be concluded from the prelude to his algebra, if you could provide a source which provides counter-evidence we have something to talk about. —Ruud 01:58, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Astriolok, although there is a reasonable amount of logic in your changing of Muslim to Persian (I haven't seen "Christian scientist" for any scientist of any period in history), unless you put up a good case on the talk page, and convince everyone, the edits would have to be reverted. Most sources, as cited by Ruud, use "Muslim". They must be having a good reason. deeptrivia (talk) 02:18, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
Muslim in this case sets a cultural reference, just as we would say Dutch or American for contemporary scientists. I'd prefer Persian as well, honestly, but Wikipedia should simply report on what other sources say. Also saying that he born in Persia in contrast to statingthat he was was Persian, prevents all sorts of people changing it to Arab, Turkish, Iraina, Iraqi, Uzbekistanian or Soviet mathematician. —Ruud 03:34, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hindu-Arabic numerals edit

Please explain major edits before making them. The article has already seen revert wars. deeptrivia (talk) 01:55, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Simply clarifying the confusing issue as to why Arabic numerals are not arabic.--Astriolok 01:56, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I mean, use edit summaries, so that everyone can see the rationale of your changes. deeptrivia (talk) 01:58, 14 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

block for 3rr edit

I've blocked you [2] for WP:3RR on Al-Khwarizmi (and probably Arabic numerals too, though I didn't check out the latter). Please take the time out to read up on our policies, and in future realise that you need to discuss things and reach consensus. William M. Connolley 21:08, 14 February 2006 (UTC).Reply
