Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Arun singh krishnaut, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Sengar have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. bonadea contributions talk 09:56, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The information about the origin of Sengar Jati, which is a gotra of Rajputs, has been given incorrect information. Even in the given source, there is no truth of any kind. Hindi page sengar link- https://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%B8%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%82%E0%A4%97%E0%A4%B0

Ishant Singh, a Wikipedia user , has made vulgar comments about Yadav women. Link- https://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%B8%E0%A4%A6%E0%A4%B8%E0%A5%8D%E0%A4%AF:%E0%A4%87%E0%A4%B6%E0%A4%BE%E0%A4%82%E0%A4%A4_%E0%A4%B8%E0%A5%87%E0%A4%82%E0%A4%97%E0%A4%B0 The source of what has changed in the Sengar caste( Rajpoot gotra ) is not reliable in any way. The source that has been given about Lord Rama's sister is also not proved that they would have been related to him in any way with the sister of Lord Shri Ram. The truth is that the word Sengar is not even mentioned in the mythological books, Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, etc., their origin in any book is not mentioned in any mythical book. If people like this will be linked to the people, then there are many modern gotras who will start connecting with mythical men to prove themselves great.Which will not be true at all, Ishant Sengar seems to be hated by one of his special Jati Yadavs as he made objectionable talk about Ahir women on his page. In order to prove himself great, he has given a wrong source, or from the source he has given, in no way there is any evidence about the origin of Senger, even the name Senger. This is a source about the origin of Sanger, which was already removed, the source is- History of the Rise of the Mahomedan Power in India, Till the Year AD 1612, "History of the rise of the Mahomedan power in India, till the year A.D. 1612: to which is added an account of the conquest, by the kings of Hydrabad, of those parts of the Madras provinces denominated the Ceded districts and northern Circars : with copious notes, Volume 1" - https://books.google.co.in/books?id=NG8-AAAAcAAJ&pg=PR64&dq=the+origin+of+rajpoots+thus+related&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjG1O-JxrHoAhUWH7cAHSE8Dr4QuwUILDAA#v=onepage&q=the%20origin%20of%20rajpoots%20is%20thus%20related%20the%20rajas%2C%20not%20satisfied%20with%20their%20wives%20&f=false, https://books.google.com/books?id=sllrz9lD1eQC&pg=PR64 In this, I have been told about the origin of them in my source, then you are requested to please remove their mythical origin and the facts which have been written about them, which were given earlier about their origin. Add it again. Arun singh krishnaut (talk) 10:04, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Your reply does not in any way address the issue. You may or may not be the same individual who added the copyright violation in the first place, but you must have been aware of the fact that the text is identical to the text in the source, when you re-added it. In addition, the text doesn't even appear to be about the topic of the article, so that's another reason not to include it. --bonadea contributions talk 10:10, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The truth shown in the Hindi page about the origin of Sengar is not proved in any way.Whatever sources are given, they do not prove the truth of the origin of Sangar caste. Their truth is not established by any mythological book or any mythical man. There is no word Sanger in any mythological book. इससे आप origin को देख सकते है । Arun singh krishnaut (talk) 10:23, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The article Sengar does not say anything about a mythical origin. (There used to be some claims of that kind, but those were removed in January 2019.) If other Wikipedia versions in other languages include such claims, that is not something that English Wikipedia editors can do anything about. Every language version of Wikipedia is its own thing, with different guidelines. --bonadea contributions talk 10:25, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Last warning edit

After you were warned above about adding copyrighted material to Sengar, and showed you had read the warning by responding to it, you went ahead and added the very same copyright violation to Rajput. Ignoring information about Wikipedia's copyright policies is very disruptive. If it happens one more time, you will be blocked from editing. Bishonen | tålk 11:14, 31 May 2020 (UTC).Reply

Can we use external websites or publications as a source of information ? The proof of origin that I have given as given in it.About their origin. There are theori that tell about their origin. This is one of them that I added. So am i in rajput english langauage page - Can I use this source as a source of information through external websites or publications in Rajput page? Arun singh krishnaut (talk) 11:25, 31 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Using them as a source for information is allright if they are reliable sources — not all websites are created equal. An obvious example of websites that must never be used for information are biased ones such as noticeboards for a particular caste. Read more about reliable sources at Wikipedia:Reliable sources and, specifically for articles about social groups, User:Sitush/Common.
But your question isn't really relevant to the warnings you have been given about copyright. You must simply never copy and paste from a website or copy text from a book. Do please read Bonadea's first warning above more carefully and learn about our copyright policies. If you can't or won't learn, you will be blocked. Bishonen | tålk 11:39, 31 May 2020 (UTC).Reply
@Bishonen: @Bonadea: I can't tell what text was redacted from Rajput, but if the text is taken from History of the rise of the Mohamedan power in India, please recognize that this book was published in 1829: it is unlikely copyright protection still applies. This does not make the edits any better or more relevant, and the text is very likely not a reliable source, but the use of this text is not likely a copyright issue. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:26, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
The text has been re-issued in a later edition, which was published by Cambridge University Press in 2013, and copyrighted as such. This is something I've run up against in my RL line of work; I think it is a bit more complex than this, actually, so that a text might be out of copyright even if it is still in print in a copyrighted edition, but I think that in order to claim that you must be able to claim that you are using the old, uncopyrighted edition as your physical source. --bonadea contributions talk 12:37, 1 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, WikiDan61. Please note, Arun singh krishnaut, that you can not use sources from as far back as 1829. They're not reliable for this kind of subject. So whether it's an unreliable source from 1829, or a copyright violation from 2013, it's not a proper source for you to use. Please use modern academic sources.
