License tagging for Image:Mujib7March.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Mujib7March.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Good work edit

Hi Arman, Nice work in the tagging of BD-related articles. Please keep it up. I was on a wiki-break for the last month, but now I'm back, and I'm happy to see the work you've done. If you have time, please do check out the Bangla wikipedia. Thanks. --Ragib 01:36, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Konnie Huq edit

Hi, I have removed the notability tag you placed on this article. The subject is quite obviously well above the baseline required; please refer to WP:NOTABILITY if you are unfamiliar with the guidelines. Devious Viper 14:24, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

You state "Hi, I don't want to get into a lengthy debate with you on notability. Wikipedia is full of users who are adding hundreds of "trivial" items in it while important topics are being left out. My mission is not to go after all of them. But I couldn't agree that Konnie Huq passes the Notability requirement of wikipedia. Wikipedia's notability requirement is -

"a topic is notable if it has been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, reliable published works, whose sources are independent of the subject itself.

What constitutes "published works" is broad and encompasses published works in all forms, including but not limited to newspapers, books and e-books, magazines, television and radio documentaries, reports by government agencies, scientific journals, etc." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Armanaziz (talk • contribs) 02:30, 27 January 2007 (UTC)."

I am at a loss to see how Huq fails your notability requirement. Have you read the article? Have you Googled her name? She absolutely meets the quoted requirement above! Devious Viper 02:37, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sari edit

You put a Bangladesh template on the sari article. Well, the sari is also worn in India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. Putting all those templates up on top of the page is pointless. I'm going to remove the template. The article is about clothing, not about nationalism. Zora 07:09, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you put the Bangladeshi template, then all the other countries where the sari is worn will add their templates, and one or two screens will be devoted to huge flaunting nationalistic templates. This whole project template thing is a mistake. Zora 08:40, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sari article edit

Aziz, that's a very bad article. It is full of dubious unsourced statements and it is badly written. I wouldn't send anyone there.

I am sure that there are good articles in Banglapedia, but this is not one of them. Zora 05:22, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I can't be driven by nationalistic issues because I'm not South Asian. The Hindu nationalists hate me. They've accused me of being Pakistani. As a matter of fact, the Iranian nationalists hate me too -- one of them accused me of being a Bangladeshi. All I can say is, if I'm Bangladeshi, I want the appropriate jewelry and saris for my new role in life.
This isn't about nationalism. This is about adding quality links. The article isn't very good. If you wrote it, well, I'm sorry to be blunt, but it could use some improvement. References would help greatly. You possibly have access to histories of costume in languages that I can't speak or read. Good *academic* works. Quotations in the original, then translations, would be helpful. Sober, skeptical historical method would help too. Bring the article up to snuff and I don't think anyone would oppose the link. In fact, we might steal some of your work. Zora 05:47, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Bangla Wikipedia edit

Here are my answers, inline:

i) I don't have Bengali typing skills.

Have you tried using Avro or other phonetic Bangla typing tools? I don't have any Bangla typing skills either. But in phonetic typing tools, the tool converts your keystrokes into Bangla as you type. So, to type আরমান, you'd have to type only a-r-m-a-n. So, no memorizing needed. We are also integrating the phonetic typing keyboards with the bn-wiki edit boxes, so in future, you won't have to type anything.

ii) is it adding much academic/ educational value? Whoever can log into wikipedia to read bangla articles should also be able to read the english ones and understand their meaning. The opposite is not true for non-Bengalis.

You are quite mistaken in this!! As part of my personal research, I wrote a paper about the readability of Wikipedia articles. It turns out that, even for native speakers, the average English wikipedia article requires 12 to 15 years of education. For featured articles, the average is 19 to 13 years of education. So, how do you expect someone from Bangladesh opening up an English wikipedia article and understand everything?

Have you ever seen a general purpose encyclopedia in Bangla? Banglapedia is there, but it is ONLY about the south asian history/culture related topics, and quite limited. In 50 years, if you don't have anything online, it will virtually disappear from the world. If we don't start building the Bangla wikipedia right away, our language will go down the drain. Sure, when information is needed, it will be available in English. But if people require English knowledge to gain information, Bangla as a language gets seriously undermined. You surely can't expect school students to be able to understand US High school/college level English, do you? If we don't start providing this base for the next generation, Bangla will cease to exist online. (You might ask how many people have Internet access. Well, not too many now, but we are planning a CD release for rural schools.)

Anyway, I hope you understand my point. Everything has a starting point, and 6 years ago, the same questions could have been asked about English Wikipedia. Bangla wikipedia is just now getting out of its shell ... but we expect it to proliferate in a few years. Already, unicode based Bangla is taking its root in the Internet. --Ragib 05:47, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, convincing. I'll try to explore more abut Avro - it sounds very interesting. And I accept your argument on need of Bnagla Wikipedia. May be once I figure out a way of typing in Bangla, I'll contribute there as well. However, right now English wkipedia remains my priority.-Arman Aziz 05:56, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:BSMMU Logo.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BSMMU Logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Education in Bangladesh, please, help edit

I have started working on the article Education in Bangladesh. It was in an extremely bad shape. The last few edits were turning it into a motley hotchpotch of text, link and image for private university/English medium agenda-pushers. Even without that the article had little content. I have began by putting in an enormous amount of fresh text, and even more massive amount of resource links (Banglapedia, government sites and downloadable pdf links). Now the real work should begin. Would you lend a hand in this? I can't do it alone. Do you have anyone else in mind who might help? That person doesn't need to be Bangladeshi. Aditya Kabir 17:54, 17 March 2007 (UTC) - please, answer to my talk pageReply

I guess, a shortening of the sections Education in Bangladesh#Education system and Education in Bangladesh#Education management would be a good place to begin. Both has way too much copy. And, while doing it, please, lend a hand in removing the POV out of these two sections as well. Much of it reads like government press handouts. In-line citation can happen later, I think. I hope you dont mind this request. Cheers. Aditya Kabir 16:22, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Article statistics edit

That table is for general Bangladesh articles, may be not too appropriate on the history project page. In fact I am kind of inclined to keep the assessment thing associated with the mother project (like the Indian Cinema project), since there are not too many articles even in the mother project. Do you think it's alright if we removed the table for article statistics, and rather put a link there to lead to the mother project? Aditya Kabir 10:18, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've removed it.-Arman Aziz 10:49, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Turag River image edit

An image of the Turag would be far from easy to procure. Sure, it doesn't have to be as exotic as the one currently in the article, but I've really no idea how we'd go about getting a good quality commons photo. Perhaps we could ask at the Wikiproject? It seems to move slowly, though. Alyoshenka 21:34, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Non-free use disputed for Image:RAB.jpg edit

  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:RAB.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:32, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:CTG-Flood.gif edit

Hi, I saw that you uploaded that TRMM image of the rainfall totals over Bangladesh. However, you uploaded a low-resolution version. The tropical cyclones and meteorology projects at Wikipedia (and most other articles for that matter) use the high-res versions. When I tried to upload the high res version provided by NASA, I realised that you uploaded the file as a .gif - when the original is a .jpg file. I've uploaded the high-resolution version at Image:2007 Bangladesh mudslides TRMM.jpg now, so you might want to ask that the above linked file (the .gif) be deleted. Coordinates! But, why? edit

Coordinates are for geographical locations, as in cities, towns, mountain peaks, lakes and such other stuff. Why did you put coordinates to Grameen Bank? Aditya Kabir 09:16, 7 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I put coordinates of Grameen Bank head office - like we have coordinates for Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban, Bangladesh National Museum or even Dhaka University. Even Geography of Bangladesh has its own coordinates. In these days, coordinates in wikipedia serve a more important role than pure informational. It helps link wikipedia with other reference software like "Google-earth". From that point, it seemed appropriate to add the coordinates to Grameen Bank article. Also, I believe there is no specific policy on which articles should or should not have coordinates. [Is there any such wiki-policy? If so, I'd love to oblige]. To me the coordinates in the header section of an article is simply a way to put the article in a geographic context.-Arman Aziz 01:14, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have shifted the wonderful table you created to the main project page. I also have fixed your collaboration candidate nomination - Bangladesh Liberation War. Please, check. I have started working on a rehash of the Bangladesh Wikiproject to make it more useful and more interactive. But, without help that would be impossible for me. May be we can start a discussion on the project talk page. Aditya Kabir 18:53, 17 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Further notice. I have made massive changes to the main project page. Please, check for mistakes. I may have left quite a few mistakes there, especially when it comes to tagging every new page created with a Category:WikiProject Bangladesh tag. I also have shifted the hisotry of Bangladesh project to history of Bangladesh workgroup. But, a lot of templates and stuff remain unchanged. I will take another attempt to fix that tomorrow. You can take a look at what you can do. And, oh, please, let me know if you need any help with your work with hte project. Aditya Kabir 20:50, 18 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

For you wonderful work on Portal:Bangladesh and Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh and, of course, your endless contrubtions to Bangladesh article, particularly in tagging them. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:49, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hahaha... now you are being critical of your own good work. I was so scared to see Shahbag going to FA! In fact for a long time simply ignored Ragib's comments that it should go to FAC. Well, I think the picture is pretty encyclopedic, as it shows the bridge where it took the great curve, it shows the river on the side, and who says beauty isn't encyclopedic? Brilliant prose is a prerequisite of FAs, and there's an entire gang of Wikifairies dedicated to make a better looking encyclopedia. In fact I am looking for some way to improve the looks of Template:Private Universities of Bangladesh, which, with the middle alignment is looking quite ugly. Unfortunately my judgement tells me to keep away from it till I have a universally agreed reason to do so (the owners of the public university agenda would not like it). Okay, to cut the long story short, I think you should submit the image to the featured image candidacy. I can do that, too, if you allow me to. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:43, 20 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Talk:Bashundhara City, by 81.140.121.182 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Re: Portal header edit

Well, I thought the flag colors do make a nice statement for the portal. But, I also agree that Bangladesh flag colors are not pleasing aesthetically. You can revert the use of flag colors fine, or do you think I should be doing it? About the spacing all I can say is the breaks are not included when you move them to the noinclude section. I really feel that those big tabs ("Main', "Indices" and "Projects") should have a little space before going onto the lead box. Thank you. (P.S. Nice work on the portal! Fantastic.) Aditya(talkcontribs) 07:28, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry dear, I just wanted to lend a hand, as I believe the featured portals are no bibles, the way of putting the breaks in the intro section and not the header section is a fixed rule, and it is visually more pleasing to have a little space as opposed to cramming things together tightly. And, oh, I thought you had no more concerns about the breaks and said "you're welcome". It seems that I was wrong on all counts, and therefore are putting my hands off. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 10:31, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, no! There I go. Bad communication skill. Sorry dear... I just wanted to tell that you're on, and I got a few things wrong. Once again, great work you're doing there. (but, I'd like to support the featured portal status a bit while later, it's too soon, and so far it's been just one person driving, feeding and running the whole stuff) Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 12:14, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have finally figured out the problem. Take a look at the Australia Portal and the Bangladesh Portal. What do you see? The bigger box that contains all the smaller boxes has a consistent background (i.e. a light metallic blue) in Australia Portal, but it turns white right on top of the tabs where the title "Bangladesh Portal" is written (though patches of blue is still visible between tabs). That is what makes the tabs look odd. I was wrong in thinking it could be solved by putting more breaks in. Can you get the colors right?
Post script In hindsight, your mention of the Portal Workgroup may not have been so trivial. Inspired by your quoting of the guidelines, I checked them again, and have found that the criterion do mention a maintenance structure (i.e. a Wikiproject) to help the portal. Forgive my naiveté.
Post post script. Don't, please, look forward to a demotion of the portal when it becomes inactive. May be you could start a campaign to attract participants. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 03:41, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can you lend a hand? edit

I just came across {{Upgrading needed}}. Can we have something in the similar line for Bangladesh articles? May be AA can help as well. {{Film More Information}} may be worth taking a look as well. Aditya(talkcontribs) 05:08, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Are you talking specifically about Bangladesh films related articles or all articles in general? Arman Aziz 05:12, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Articles in general, I guess. The current template is on films, true, but the idea seems very nice. The codes involved look kind of nightmarish to a technologically handicapped person like me, though. :( Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:02, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • {{Upgrading needed}} gives specific directions on how a stub class film related article can be upgraded to start class. I cannot think of a way to come up with such specific instructions for articles on diverse topics covered by WP:BANGLADESH. If you have a good set of instuctions in mind, please let me know what they are - I won't mind creating the template. Arman Aziz 09:14, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ditto. I'm not sure we can come up with generic guidelines for all types of articles. This is best tackled at the workgroup level with specific guidelines for geography, history etc. If you guys can create the template itself, I can tie it into the workgroup template so that it shows up in appropriate articles of stub class. → AA (talk) — 09:35, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

So, how about one for the geography workgroup? That should be pretty standardized. What would a Bangladesh location article ideally need? Let's see:

  1. History (including: History during the Liberation War)
  2. Geography (including: Location, Landmarks and Environment)
  3. Demography (including: Ethnography and Famous people)
  4. Administration (including: Current Administration)
  5. Economy (including: Employment, Industry, Agriculture and Commerce)
  6. Infrastructure (including: Transport, Health and Education)
  7. Photograph
  8. Map

There may be other necessary components, and all of the above may not be applicable to all locations indiscriminately, but this may be a nice basic structure. Say what? Sorry if I have tried to dump something I thought a good idea without explaining, or even thinking much. Aditya(talkcontribs) 16:55, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S. Can I request you guys to post a note to my talk page to keep my poor self abreast of the replies, please? Aditya(talkcontribs) 16:58, 20 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I have created the first draft here. You two can take it up from here. I'm not very interested. I feel my time will be better spent by actually working on articles than creating instructions for unknown editors. Arman Aziz 07:36, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
And I have linked it into the main template so that it shows if class=stub and geography=yes. → AA (talk) — 08:27, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you both. And, apologies for distracting Arman from creating articles. Cheers, dude, I wish you can go back to creating articles now. I guess, I should begin to learn the codes better. Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:01, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Baitul Mukarram.JPG edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Baitul Mukarram.JPG. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VegitaU 04:02, 22 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Redlinks edit

An encyclopedia ideally should be more about information than looking good. If the article on Muhammad Yunus needs a section on Grameen initiatives than the initiatives need to be named. And, if an organization is notable enough to be named, than it ideally should have some content on the encyclopedia. While helping three articles to move to FA status, this is the least I could learn. Besides, creating new articles on Grameen initiatives is more of an worthwhile exercise than creating overlapping portals. Encyclopedias are about the articles, and these potential articles are much more important than a lot of other Bangladeshi organization articles. Forgive me if I am wrong on anything here. Please, let them be there for a while, I promise to create articles for them. Aditya(talkcontribs) 04:15, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

May be I was wrong to think that a Nobel Peace Prize winner's works are worthwhile, even when those works are victims of systemic bias and does not return many hits at google, the basic criterion for inclusion in an encyclopedia. May be I was wrong again to think that creating a portal on a long defunct geographical entity (i.e. Bengal) to recycle articles and images that are already material for two other portals (i.e. Bangladesh and West Bengal) are not important. May be I was even more wrong in thinking that it is important to create the redlinks and then create the articles one after another (I have already created half a dozen of them) rather than waiting for an admin or a copyeditor to come and tell that you need to do it. Forgive me for my mistakes. I hope "my friend" Nahid shall also understand. I am but only human. Aditya(talkcontribs) 13:18, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Barnstar edit

Thanks, dear. It really means a lot. Though I wish, I could be half as diligent as you are or Tarif or Nahid or Niaz or AA is. Aditya(talkcontribs) 06:34, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

While you are busy with real life, I am willing to lend support to keep your great work on the Bangladesh portal. Sorry that I'll not probably dabble at the other two portals you created, since, you know, I don't really agree on those. But, that shouldn't stop me from collaborating on the portal I appreciate so much. Right. Well, since I am no good at portal till now, can you please post me a list of things that would need an intervention? I'll definitely try to follow the tasks you lay out there. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 15:12, 5 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your offer of help. Any help on any of the portals on wikipedia is welcome. The one section that needs regular update in Portal:Bangladesh is the news section. Many of the articles that you start or significantly expand often go into DYK section of the mainpage. Please feel free to include those items in one or more of the different randomly rotating DYK sections on Bangladesh portal -you can access all of them from the archive page. Apart from these the selection and nomination of selected article, biograpy and picture and where in Bangladesh sections need to be rolled every month. But the main task is really to create and improve more articles that the portal can pick from. Arman Aziz 04:44, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
The last task is something I keep myself busy with anyways. DYK, where in and picture I think I can handle fine. But, there's not too many general or biographical articles of good quality that fit the portal, I guess. I'll still see what I can do. Thanks for the help. Aditya(talkcontribs) 09:36, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Post Script The moment I came across this Template:Random portal component, I remembered you. Probably you have already seen it. If you haven't may be you'd like to take a look. Interesting template. Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 12:01, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. We are already using this template for the "Did you know..." section of Portal:Bangladesh. Arman Aziz 01:28, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

From IUB talk edit

The following part of my comment at Talk:Independent University, Bangladesh, as it seems much inappropriate there. I hope you don't mind.

The point you said you were trying to make isn't really coming across from your comments there, rather the concern for a waste of time and energy is coming through more strongly. As for Nahid, he has gone and tagged two very tiny stubs - Palattu Koman and Rajamanickam - created by me for list to prose (I have complied to both requests, and the results look very nice, I guess. No harm done). I'm not really sure how you came to know what point he was making.

And, oh, by the way could you avoid words like "useless", "meaningless", "pointless", "worthless", "wasteful" and a whole host of such words put in a judgmental way, as well as bolding an accusation, when you begin a discussion. Those are really deterrents to discussions, you know. If you really want to question a point, you always can question it instead of passing a judgment. There is a subtle difference between saying - "You are totally wrong and you stand against the policies" - and saying - "Are you sure you are in perfect agreement with the policies?" I know you can start quoting my incivility right away instead of thinking about the proposition, but my not being perfect shouldn't ideally stop you from trying it :)... right?.

Ragib, you, Tarif, Niaz and Nahid seem to be the most active Bangladeshi Wikipedian around, and currently you are making the most diligent contributions here. It hurts me very much to face rudeness from such a valuable partner (yep, I work on Bangladesh articles, too). One more question, since lately you've been either putting down or ignoring most of the questions and requests I am putting to you, can you explain what's wrong here? Aditya(talkcontribs) 06:15, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

May be I am just confused which questions I am expected to answer and which questions are for rhetoric purposes only. Arman Aziz 06:49, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
There was just one question which you sought out and answered brilliantly. My god, you put me to shame completely. That was very insensitive of me. And, oh, I have just read your last comment on the Wikiproject portal talk page. My, you have really come to hate me! Really, seems like it's been quite some time you've been hating me. But, don't you think it should be me who is to be more hurt here? And, since I am feeling really guilty, I think I'd relive some of it through refreshing our memory a bit. These incidents of rudeness goes back quite a bit (wow, how we can strike up a history!).
Remember the incident of the portal-header where you went ballistic at my efforts to get it right (I don't get this. Why are you moving the breaks out of the no include section again? Can't you see it is abnormally distorting the portal pages?), and eventually I managed to figure out the problem and take it to you notice? Remember also my efforts to lead Muhammad Yunus article when you called the whole exercise "not worthwhile", and now the Grameen family of organizations is becoming a fine article? Remember the time when I asked for a little help, since you're obviously superior to me in coding, with a set of guidelines to go with Bangladesh geo-stubs? You just dumped the suggestions on to a template declaring "feel my time will be better spent by actually working on articles", and then spent a month of intense work on WP that had nothing to do with articles?
In fact you have quoted that time and energy thing quite a few times, and it really hurts to read that while you do most of your work here after 14 hour workdays trying to improve things. One other editor has screamed at me before - "I got other things to do..." - and went off without helping the Jayne Mansfield article anymore. Well I am striving to get that massive mishmash into a GA ever since, and it's halfway there already.
Even when I pointed out that the Bangladesh portal was very much an one man show, you were really angry, and in the end it is only I who still keeps standing with you to that portal (though I don't now anything about the coding to be more useful, but I'm learning). I also let a "what is the purpose?" note at the SAARC portal and waiting for a response before seeking WP:3PO at the Wikiproject talk. So far I have backed out from only one thing I could have helped - the private universities of Bangladesh, thanks to all the hostility dished out by a certain user. I have also accepted your lead on portals, and, I guess, I'll have to dabble into the matter of 1000+ portals a bit more seriously.
But, hostility management is part of being a useful editor here. Ever since I left that user alone he seems to have grown into a real vandal fighter (only if he left trolling me! sigh). And, that is the reason for this humongous post. I look forward to having you as a partner. Yes, you will have differences in opinion, debates, arguments and even outright fist-fights, but that should never get down to a personal level.
You wrote "I will support them when I think they are right and I will support you when I think you are right", but I'd insist that you support Wikipedia, not individual users. I am working on a Wikipedia-wide effort to get this list thing right, and even if it means hurting a few people from my homeland, I guess, I'll keep it up. And, while your appreciation for enthusiasm is highly commendable it also is important that we don't lose the fine balance between quality and quantity. I've turned Shahbag into a featured article trying to handle a merge tag, and I hope to do exactly the same for Sitakunda Upazila.
All this I say not to brag, but to tell you what's possible, and since I know only my contributions best, examples are better drawn from that lot. Even if you stayed cross at me I would have kept working, and the biggest loss would be the loss of a valuable partner and feeding a troll (this last damage has already been done by me, and the troll is now very empowered finding an ally in you, my bad luck). And, oh, BTW if you are looking for a vliant editor who engaged all the time and energy to the articles look for User:Usingha, who created about 500 articles of real good quality without making any fuss and then went on to create a Wikipedia in his native tongue from a scratch.
Sorry about this very long post, but I owe you at least this much. Please, don't hate me. And, if this post becomes really bothersome on the talk page, you still have a few things to do - remove, archive, or scream in frustration. ;) Aditya(talkcontribs) 18:33, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Insubordinance? Hmmm, interesting choice of words. More interesting than the use of "not worthwhile" about redlinks that led to Grameen Trust and Grameen Fund. And more interesting than the use of "diplomacy" to describe appreciation. Well, since I can't go down on my knees and beg for mercy (it's a virtual world, you see), I guess, I can do nothing to change your rudeness towards me. Two questions:
  • Do you really think redlinks that evidently imply/request articles of fair or even high notability don't comply with that "article first" principle? In fact, the community recognizes redlinks as article requests, and the project to deal with redlinks treat that, upon a judgment of notability, as the best way to convert them into bluelinks (unless, of course, it was misspelt or misphrased, in which case spelling it right turns them into bluelinks). Or, do you think creating portals complies more to the "article first" principle?
  • Do you think we really need one portal for an average of 200 articles? Obviously I'm missing here something of importance. Can you, if you don't mind, elaborate a bit more on that?
Finally, it seems I have again failed to communicate. The point of stating the incidents was simple - please, don't assume bad faith. Judging someone as a vandal just because you don't know that he's using a different browser, and judging someone's observation on portals coming from an urge to take vengeance is not probably the right way to look at people. I am sorry that I have failed to agree with you on a few things (disagreement is part of the charm of this community, haha). But, that shouldn't be a reason to be consistently rude to me. Right? Aditya(talkcontribs) 05:23, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP Talk: WP Portals edit

I've just gone through the portal discussion again. You raised absolute right point at the end of the discussion. In this situation, (Aditya's behavior) WP:GAME and WP:KETTLE might be applicable. Well, let me explain something, I tagged some articles which were unsourced and had some peacock words (though I usually don't see the creator of the article). But I was surprised after seeing these edit summaries ([1], [2], [3] and [4]) made by Aditya. Soon after that, he tagged IUB article by mentioning "Maintenance tag" ([5]) in the edit summary (which I referred you before). When I made comments ([6], [7] ) on WP Portals discussion page on 30th August and 2nd September, he added more tags [8],[9],[10],[11] (also an advert tag) after seeing my comments there. You already may have noticed those issues. What I understand is, this user tries to take revenge by raising pointless issues and tagging the articles (instead of improving them) whenever any disagreement happens. It's not acceptable at all. I also noticed this person removing (Prothom Alo) references along with other references and revert previous advert tags. It seems to me, he's getting angry time to time and engaging in edit ware. My question, is it the right place for expressing his personal feelings or anger mood ? !

BTW, you are doing excellent job on this article. Thank you--NAHID 12:57, 7 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nahid, I am aware of these and trying to work out the problems with Aditya. If all of us (including myself) can forget these silly incidents and focus on the job of contributing to wikipedia - that would be the best scenario. I am also noticing that the tagging option is being misused as a tool to disrupt other's works. We need to discuss this at a more policy level to decide whether there needs to be any control on tagging. At present the best way to respond to excessive tagging seems to be to address the problem highlighted in the tag. Happy editing. Arman Aziz 04:54, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
