Collapsible sidebar

Well, as was pointed out to me, there is a Checkbox in Special:Preferences under Appearance that can disable the collapsable side menus so I'm not sure this is even a bug, but more a user preference. The only thing that might be bug-worthy is that when once has collapsable side menus enabled, the state of those menus (open or closed) is not preserved from one page to another. I could mention that if you think it would help, but the link you provided doesn't appear to be valid. Thanks!Arakunem^Talk 15:05, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

I opened a bug about that, too: bug 23628.

The point of bug 23497 is that by default menus should be unfolded or even not collapsible. Most readers of Wikipedia don't play with their preferences, so the ability to cancel it is not relevant to them. And many of them won't see those links at all. (I actually saw it happen several times.)

Conflict of interest - Australian Cattle Dogs

Hi Arakunem,

Herding dogs is one of the areas of my area of expertise. Citations are required to ensure that all Wikipedia content is verifiable (and a reliable source) and not just an opinion. Stockdog Savvy is a comprehensive study on the work and training of more than 60 different breeds.

The book Stockdog Savvy has numerous references to the Australian Cattle Dog as well as pictures of the breed in action. For example, page 7: "At present, Australian Cattle Dogs, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, English Shepherds, Kelpies and McNabs are still the breeds most frequently found on farms and ranches in North American, but with fewer ranch jobs available for dogs, more herding dogs have found their way into urban and suburban homes. Page 13 includes a picture of an ACD heeling a steer with the caption: "A red Australian Cattle Dog illustrates how the breed gained the nickname "Heeler." On page 33 there is a picture of an Australian Cattle Dog with the caption: The authors' son Tyler enjoying a buddy at the Uh Oh Ranch in Kiowa Colorado. There are numerous references to ACD in the this book.

The edit in the 2nd paragraph citing Stockdog Savvy was for "urban owners without access to livestock" and "herding games". As the sentence now reads it indicates that information can be found in citation [23](http://www.akc.org/events/herding/getting_started.cfm. However, that article refers to playing with toys, chasing and control commands: "stay", "get it" and "that'll do". It mentions nothing about urban owners without livestock or the type of structured herding games that teach commands such as "Come bye" and "Away to me", "Look back", "Walk on", "Steady," and "Back out".

new elections

Things could be fixed in a little more than a month. 2 weeks to decide what to do. 2 weeks to vet any additional candidates. 2 weeks to do elections. We could have the problem fixed by early July. To become encyclopedic

Thanks for your comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/First Principle of Energy Consumption. I wholly agree with the comment about "would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic" in G11, but unfortunately that is not allowed to be applied on its own. I have tried twice on WT:CSD to get a CSD for essays and how-tos, to no avail... I've even made the case that G11s need to be fundamentally rewritten, so why is there an exception for other patent crap like this one? Maybe this is something we should continue to keep an eye on. Thanks, that clarification on the Synthesis article was just the sort of thing I was thinking of: that the term was in fact the generally accepted term, with the proceedings of the conference as the supporting source. I've looked over your recent edits in the area and they have been within policy for a potential COI area, and your stated desire to continue that course demonstrates that you are editing in good faith, and not trying to use Wikipedia for promotional purposes. Don't know how to find the Talk page!

Hello Arakunem,

I admit I don't understand all the rules of posting etc on Wikipedia, but I don't know how to respond. I don't know how to work the "Talk" button, and I confess that I just found your message today, Nov. 1.

I will have an article in Publishers Weekly coming up this month entitled "Why I Translate." Admittedly also written by me, so does that count as a reference? In January there will be an article about me in Costco Connection, written by a journalist. That's the best I can offer you. I wrote the Wikipedia entry, I believe in a neutral, non-self-serving way, to provide information that is unavailable elsewhere (so far). As a mere translator of a series of bestsellers, I'm not famous enough to have much written about me, so print references are scarce at this point. But people do want to know more about my background.

Please hold off on deleting the page until late November, when I can deal with any problems in detail. Write to me at steventmurray@gmail.com and I'll tell you why -- I don't want to put it on a public forum.

Reorganisation of Space WikiProjects The ongoing discussion of the future of Space WikiProjects has been making progress. WikiProject Space was abolished on 5 December 2010, with the Spaceflight, Astronomy and Solar System projects becoming independent of each other. On the same day, an assessment banner, {{WikiProject Spaceflight}} was created for WikiProject Spaceflight to replace the generic space one which had been used previously. On 9 December, WikiProject Space Colonization was abolished, with its tasks being subsumed into WikiProject Spaceflight. On 12 December, the Human spaceflight and Unmanned spaceflight WikiProjects became task forces of WikiProject Spaceflight, whilst WikiProject Timeline of spaceflight became a working group. A number of issues are still under discussion: Introducing better defined assessment criteria and an A-class review process Setting clearer importance criteria for assessing articles Establishing a joint task force with the Astronomy and Solar System projects to cover space telescopes and planetary probes Defining the roles of projects, taskforces and working groups, and processes for establishing new ones Improving the profile and activity of the project Much of the current discussion is taking place on the WikiProject Spaceflight talk page, however there is still some discussion on the original proposal page.
