Just a quick note edit

Hey Aquamarine9719, first of all, let me offer you an official welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for pushing the Sacheen Littlefeather page in what I believe to be a more neutral direction. I did want to warn you that since you have edited that page exclusively, someone will inevitably at some point accuse you of having a conflict of interest. I don't see any reason to believe that is the case, but just a reminder, if you have any personal or financial relationship to the article's subject, then you should declare it. On the other hand, having strong feelings about an article subject or being a fan of someone or something is not a conflict. Again, I am not accusing you of anything, but I fear that may be in the future from others, so just wanted to give you a "heads up." Have a wonderful day. Dumuzid (talk) 16:18, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I appreciate it. I have no connection. I am just a new editor making some unfortunate blunders as I try and figure out how to voice my opinion on the current state of the page while complying with Wikipedia’s process. I did a little preliminary research on how to contribute to Wikipedia, which I now realize was mostly concerned with the mechanics of editing and not the process of gaining consensus, etc. that should be completed before making edits. I realize I have a ton to learn about how to contribute to Wikipedia the right way and I really appreciate you helping me with that process. I have to say, it’s a little overwhelming, but I think Wikipedia is important, so here I am. Thank you again and if you have ever have further advice or constructive criticism, don’t hesitate to let me know! Have a lovely day as well. Aquamarine9719 (talk) 21:16, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
You are honestly doing fine; just remember that even people with whom you stridently disagree are (for the most part) engaging in good faith. Feel free to ask me anything you like and I look forward to your future contributions! Cheers. Dumuzid (talk) 21:19, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi! Hope you’re having a good day. I hope you don’t mind that I keep reaching out to you, I really appreciate how helpful you’ve been. To be honest, I’m at a total loss on the Sacheen Littlefeather page. You did warn me that I’d potentially face some accusations there but I’ve been really surprised by the turn it has taken. Instead of focusing on the substance of the discussion, i.e. increasing accuracy and neutrality by finding a way to incorporate the opposing view, people are starting to scrutinize my account history and accuse me of bias, being a puppet account etc. Perhaps I simply need to take a break from that page to get clearer eyes, but it feels as if the edits on that page are getting controlled by a small group who argue for and against things based on their own ideological views and misrepresent basic wiki policies about sourcing as justification. Every time you or I have suggested a way of incorporating the opposing view, it has been shot down and no alternative has been offered, even though we’ve asked for suggestions to try to find a workable compromise. And multiple people have misrepresented basic policies like WP:COATRACK, WP:AGE MATTERS, and WP:RS to justify their objections. I don’t necessarily say this to complain and I apologize if that’s how it sounds. I guess I’m just needing context from a more experienced editor. Is this how Wikipedia works and I just need to keep learning and adjusting? Or are some of the actions being taken in bad faith? I can’t help but feel at this point the intent is to make the page inaccessible for new users to contribute to and stonewall any changes that are contrary to a specific narrative. Any insight is welcome, including constructive criticism. Thanks again. Aquamarine9719 (talk) 21:53, 5 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
