Adoption edit

I am indeed very busy these days, but I have trouble turning down requests for help, especially with regard to information about the global south – a subject which is vastly under-represented here on Wikipedia. I'd like to know a little more about you; you've said that Spanish is your first language and that you're interested in South America; do you live there now? How did you first learn about Wikipedia? A little background would be very useful for me.

Starting a WikiProject is a big challenge to take on so early as an editor. I would recommend some smaller tasks first, perhaps with a page about a subject which interests you. If you really want to propose a WikiProject, I'll help you with it (there's a formal procedure), but I would advise some patience until you're comfortable with the other methods of how this place works.

Welcome to Wikipedia and I hope I can be helpful to you in the months to come. – Scartol • Tok 18:37, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excellent. Sustainable development ought to be a given, in my opinion – making a little more money to today in exchange for future generations' very lives strikes me as the worst sort of greed and shortsightedness. But on to Wikipedia matters:
 1. When including references to URLs, don't leave a space between the opening bracket and the website address. I've fixed two of these on the Irrigation in Peru article; your first assignment as my adoptee is to fix the third.
 2. Also, be sure to sign your comments on talk pages with four tildes (~~~~). I also encourage you to add a link to your talk page in your signature.

I look forward to working with you. I should be able to make more thorough comments about the Peruvian irrigation article later in the week. If I haven't gotten back to you with more feedback by Sunday, please drop me a line on my talk page. – Scartol • Tok 19:08, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wow, a DYK already. Well done! (I'm jealous; it took me a lot of wrangling and frustration to get my first, heh.) Keep up the good work, and I'll be in touch again soon. (I noticed you've added the talk link. Nice.) – Scartol • Tok 01:03, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 17:25, 13 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

re adoption request edit

Hi. I was just looking at your userpage and I see that it says you've been adopted by Scartol. I think usually an adoptee only has one adopter. Since I also seem to be just a tad on the busy side these days, I regretfully decline your adoption request. However, I still welcome questions from you on my talk page if you need help with anything. I've answered a fair number of help desk questions lately, so if I can find time for that I ought to be able to find time to help people who post questions on my talk page. Besides, I like getting that orange banner saying that I've got new messages.  :-) Friendly greetings, --Coppertwig (talk) 03:02, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Editing categories edit

Hi! The key is to write Colombia instead of Categoría:Sector eléctrico por país at the bottom of the respective article. Saludos, --Kerres (Talk) 20:11, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

User demographics edit

Hello, Anunezsanchez. Sorry for being out of touch for so long; I've been really busy lately. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to examine the information about who is reading the irrigation page and for how long. However, I'm sure it's possible to find such information, so I will direct you to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Ask your question there, and I expect someone will be able to tell you how to find the data you're looking for. Let me know how it works out! – Scartol • Tok 14:36, 28 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Citation edit

Hello, AS, and let me apologize for being out of touch for so long. I'm afraid I've been busy with 1001 activities and have been neglecting my poor adoptees. =)

It looks like the Harvard template you've been using is older and less useful than the Citation template. Have a look at that one and see if it works for you. If not, let me know and I'll keep looking. (I'm afraid I do all my citations by hand, so I don't really understand the various templates for that purpose.)

As promised, I will take a closer look at the irrigation articles soon and give you more feedback. Cheers! – Scartol • Tok 19:13, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

PS. It looks like your signature doesn't make a correct link to your talk page. You might want to take another look at it. If you post the code you're using to my talk page, I might be able to help you fix it. – Scartol • Tok 19:15, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad to hear the citations have worked out for you. I'll take a look at your pages later in the week, and I apologize again for not getting to them sooner. In the meantime, I've taken a look at the code for your signature (and if you're not already, be sure to sign with four tildes, as SineBot explained below). I think the problem was that there was no space between "user" and "talk" in the second link. Try using the following in your signature preferences:
anunezsanchez (talk)
Cheers. – Scartol • Tok 13:35, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

About the references in this article: When we have a list at the bottom of the page of sources used, it's easy to alphabetize the list. When they appear as individual citations, however, they must show up in the same order they appear in the article. The way most folks get around this (see for instance the article I wrote about Louis Lambert (novel) is to mention just the author and page number in the citation, and then make a separate list of the books later on. (It looks like you've removed some of the items from the lower list since they appear in the upper one.) – Scartol • Tok 17:36, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Irrigation in Peru comments edit

Hello, Anunezsanchez! I finally had a chance to look at this article, and let me say Kudos for creating such a well-written and thoroughly documented page. I feel that with a little cleanup, it could be ready for Good Article status. I agree with the comment on the talk page that including page numbers would be a good way to make the article better. I would also note that the list in "Government strategy on the irrigation sector" isn't the best way to deliver this information. See WP:EMBED for more information.

Finally, there are some one- and two-sentence paragraphs, which generally aren't a good idea. Wherever possible, combine these with other paragraphs and shoot for 4-5 sentences in each paragraph (obviously, this depends on what the sentences are about, how long each sentence is, etc). I'll have a look at your other articles soon. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Cheers! – Scartol • Tok 19:58, 19 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I completely understand about the time required for adding page numbers, and – as Awadewit once wisely said – we're lucky, since there are no deadlines for Wikipedia. Take your time and I'll be happy to have a look when you're done. Thanks for being in touch and I'll talk to you again soon. – Scartol • Tok 15:35, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
The improvements look good – nice job doing it so quickly! I wonder if maybe we should have page numbers for each citation, however. Usually page numbers are requested each time a citation is used, so that other readers can find the information being cited quickly and easily. I will let you decide; you may want to ask Victor12, since he left the original note about this.
When you're ready, nominating an article for GA status is simple: Just read the directions at WP:GAN, at the top of the page. It's a good idea, when nominating a GA, to review someone else's article. (If everyone did this, they'd all be reviewed very quickly.) Directions for reviewing are located on the same page, just below the directions for nominating. As always, let me know if you have any questions. – Scartol • Tok 17:51, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Table at the end pf WSS articles edit

It's easy! You just have to use the Template:Latin America and the Caribbean topic and add the issue. In your case you can write or at the end of your articles and a similar table will appear. Greetings! --Kerres (Talk) 22:02, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA nom and other articles edit

Anunez, thanks for the notice about the irrigation and water-management articles. I'm currently visiting some friends and family just now, so it'll be a week or so before I can look at those articles. I promise that I will take a look when I can, however, and in the meantime I hope the GA nomination goes well. Cheers! – Scartol • Tok 15:14, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

A couple of quick things about Peru's citations. I'm fine with the Harvard style of referencing you're using, but:
 1. Some of the links (such as The Economist at the end of "Relevance of irrigation for agriculture and rural development") don't take us to the footnotes – perhaps they're improperly formatted? and
 2. Titles/names which are used repeatedly (such as Comisión Técnica Multisectorial and FAO) are hard to follow without years. The article on parenthetical referencing suggests that each citation include the year of publication – I feel this would be good to include here.
I'm reading the content of the article right now; I'll leave comments on the article talk page. – Scartol • Tok 14:59, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I've left some comments, mostly about the lead and structure. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. – Scartol • Tok 15:31, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Irrigation in Peru GAN edit

Would you mind converting the references into the text for me? I mean this by using the ref tags and then creating a list of references using the reflist template. Thanks, --Meldshal [T] {C} 21:50, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Rock Creek Whistlers edit

A tag has been placed on Rock Creek Whistlers requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
