May 2020 edit

  Hello. I wanted to let you know that in your recent contributions to NetMums, you seemed to act as if you were the owner of the page. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to Wikipedia. This means that editors do not own articles, including ones they create, and should respect the work of their fellow contributors. If you create or edit an article, remember that others are free to change its content. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. –Davey2010Talk 14:47, 12 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Owning or being a Director of a company doesn't mean you own the article too - Articles are not owned by anyone nor can they be "claimed", I hope the above message is of help. Thanks. –Davey2010Talk 14:48, 12 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Editing with a conflict of interest edit

In this edit summary you wrote, "As the Editorial Director of Netmums.com...". As the Editorial Director of Netmums.com, you have an obvious conflict of interest, and should not directly edit the Netmums page. Instead, if you find that there are factual errors on the page, you should make an edit request at Talk:Netmums, making clear your conflict of interest as part of the request. Additionally, you should disclose your relationship to this subject on your user page. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:50, 12 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

  Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Netmums because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. @WikiDan61: edit

@WikiDan61: Hi Dan To the best of my ability I've followed what you guys told me to do. Is this sufficient in order to publish my changes to the Netmums page on Wikipedia? Any help gratefully received; am new to the world of publishing on wiki and just want to make sure any wiki users get the info they actually want, and info that's correct/up to date, on our website. Many thanks Annie — Preceding unsigned comment added by {} (talk • contribs)

Annie, I've replied to your edit request at Talk:Netmums. Here, I'd like to further instruct you on how to properly declare your conflict of interest. Edit your user page, and add

to the top of the page. As for the information users actually want: what they want from a Wikipedia article is information that is factual, reliably sourced, and neutral. So, I suggest that, rather than offering up a completely rewritten page to your own liking, you use Talk:Netmums to point out any factual errors, with corrections that you'd like to see (preferably with sources to verify the corrections). @WikiDan61:

Hi Dan, Hope you're well? I'm a freelance journalist working with Annie on the Netmums team for a while. She asked me to pick up with you on making some corrections to the Netmums Wikipedia page. I understand there has been a fair bit of to'ing and fro'ing on this already. So I thought I'd reach out to you in the first instance. Understand that the page shouldn't be overly promotional, but there are some errors on the current listing that need correcting and the site has changed since the page was originally written so it would be good to update the entry to reflect these changes. Could you let me know the best way to go about proposing these changes? Are you able to help me with the best way forward? p.s. This is my first time using Wikipedia so apologies in advance if I don't have all the formatting quite right yet. AnnieOleary (talk) 08:09, 13 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

May 2020 edit

Your recent editing history at Netmums shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. creffett (talk) 01:35, 13 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Updates to Netmums page edit

@WikiDan61: edit

@WikiDan61:

Hi Dan,

Not sure if you got my message yesterday about me working on some updates to the Netmums page.

Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that I have made some changes to it today – just to update it with the latest info on what the site includes/what platforms it operates across/the current team etc. With each of the edits, I have explained what the changes are, why they've been made, and have cited them all.

I just wanted to check in with you though to see whether there were any issues with any of the changes or the way I have gone about them to make sure they all fit with Wikipedia's ways of workings etc.

Please do let me know if there are any issues and I will happily address them.

I intend to make a few more updates to the page but it would be good to know that I'm going about this in the right way first.

Thanks for your help! AnnieOleary (talk) 11:50, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I did not get yesterday's pings. Sorry about that. I note that you mention that this account is now being shared both by Ms O'Leary and by a freelance journalist working with Ms O'Leary. I will point out two policies that are relevant: WP:NOSHARE and WP:PAID. The journalist must create a separate account and not edit under Ms O'Leary's name. And the journalist must disclose that they are being paid by Netmums to improve this article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:05, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@WikiDan61:

Thanks for coming back to me. OK cool, I (the journalist) will set up a separate account, disclose that I am working for Netmums and then make the changes that way. I'm assuming that means I will need to re-do the edits already made today? Thanks for your help!

AnnieOleary (talk) 12:12, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

No, no need to redo the edits, unless someone else comes along and undoes them. I haven't changed what you wrote except for some minor tweaks. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:43, 14 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@WikiDan61:

Ok brilliant, thanks so much! I have now set myself up with a separate account JPjourno and have put the COI/paid editor declarations on my user page and the Netmums talk page. I'll make any other changes that way. Thanks again for your help!
