Draft:Helmuth Prieß (German soldier) - etiquette question

Hello Anne Delong, as an experienced AfC contributor, could I ask you for some etiquette advice on this draft please? From what I understand of the AfC guidelines, it should be OK to finish such a draft, or? The original author left a short note 2 months ago, but I am not sure, they will continue editing here anytime soon. Does the original author need any additional attribution (aside from the edit history)? As you can see I already did some cleanup - with a little more filling and polishing the article should be able to make it into article namespace. GermanJoe (talk) 10:56, 2 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello, GermanJoe. You are welcome to improve any draft; if the editor who created and submitted it was actively working on it, it would be polite to explain to him or her why you are making any serious changes, since AfC drafts are usually created by new users who may not understand, but in this case I would just go ahead and fix it up. In my opinion, though, it needs quite a bit of improvement in the way of (1) claims to notability and (2)reliable independent sources. If he is supposed to be notable for founding a "working group" I hope that you will explain what that is. Thanks for taking an interest in this; there are so many of these drafts just sitting around getting nowhere, and I hate to see all that work wasted.—Anne Delong (talk) 11:38, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice, Anne Delong. The whole dispute between peace movement and critical soldiers on the one side and Bundeswehr and government on the other side was kind of a big deal back then. But as with many news stories: only for a while, then public interest waned and switched to more "interesting" topics. I'll try to clarify the article's context with "Darmstädter Signal" and the general German situation back then a bit better, but it's been a while ago and I don't really remember many details of it :). GermanJoe (talk) 11:49, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
Could I bother you for a second look please, when you have time? I believe, I have addressed your concerns and extended the referencing considerably - I even found 1 (one) English source ;). Prieß is briefly mentioned in 3 additional German books, but those books cover miniscule background details of German policy and are of little significance for an encyclopedic article (imo). Assuming the article can meet the notability threshold, do I just re-nominate it? GermanJoe (talk) 15:56, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
GermanJoe, it's quite a bit better. There are still some references to his own writings which should ideally be moved to a "Publications" section and replaced by news or book references about them, but I there are enough other references and claims of notability to accept the article. However, there's already an article about a person named Helmuth Prieß, who is also a German soldier, so what should the page be called?—Anne Delong (talk) 19:03, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look. The name question is quite the challenge: de- and fr-Wiki differentiate between Hellmuth Prieß (the WWI general) and Helmuth Prieß (the post-WWII lieutenant) only over the extra L. Considering both are 20th-century German soldiers, I actually have no better idea. Suggestion: let's move the current Helmuth Prieß to Hellmuth Prieß (the WWI general is spelt with 2 L in most sources anyway) and move the draft to "Helmuth Prieß". I would also add a hatnote to both articles pointing to the other name variant in this special case. GermanJoe (talk) 20:01, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
GermanJoe, I can't agree with that at this time because there are a quite a few pages that are linked to the General's page. I've moved it to Helmuth Prieß (soldier) for now. I don't have any interest in the military, and I don't speak German, so I don't really care if you move the pages around, but you should probably discuss this with MisterBee1966, who has done quite a bit of work on Helmuth Prieß. Adding the hatnotes is a good idea.—Anne Delong (talk) 21:09, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
Good call - I forgot to check the incoming links (oops). I'll keep the titles as is for now (better than confusing the situation even more), maybe MisterBee has a good idea for a meaningful disambig. GermanJoe (talk) 21:20, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

Editta Braun company

Hallo Anne! I was once working on the article of the dance company of the international working choreographer Editta Braun. Unfortunately, the articel is still "in creation" but not online. I saw, that you hat been working on that:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/editta_braun_company

What had to be done, that the article will go online? Thank you for helping?

Kind regards, Sindy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.189.111.56 (talk) 08:06, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Sindy. I improved the article a little so that it wouldn't be deleted because I thought that there should be an article about this topic. However, I know very little about ballet, so I couldn't finish it. I can give you some general advice for improvement. Wikipedia articles should not have opinions, feelings, aspirations, etc., but just facts. The article describes what the company members intent to express in their dances; this should be removed. Any text about style, impressions, etc., should be about what the critics and independent dance writers said, including negative material. For example, "XYZ dance company was praised in ABC dance magazine for its expressive choreography; a review in PQR newspaper called for more appropriate costuming". Here's an example ballet article: Colon Theater Ballet .

Also, a long list of everything the company has ever done doesn't make for interesting reading. Most ballet companies have a web page where all that stuff is listed, and a link to that can be put in the "External links" section of the article. Instead, a paragraph or two about some of the more notable events and performances would be better.

I would suggest that you post a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Ballet, asking for help in getting the page on line. The editors there will know just what changes to make.—Anne Delong (talk) 14:07, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Frederic Woodman Root

I put the article up for AfD. My reason for the PROD was notability. I still can't find evidence meeting "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list." There is one non-reliable source, a likely unreliable source, both trivial, and two other trivial mentions. Anyway, let's take it to AfD. Jerod Lycett (talk) 18:31, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Jerod Lycett. I decided to try to improve this article because the person you notified is blocked. If you believe it's non-notable, AfD is the right thing to do.—Anne Delong (talk) 18:44, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Would you mind moving a page?

Hi, I ran into a little problem earlier when accepting an AfC article, List of Girl Meets World Episodes, recently. I'd like to move it to List of Girl Meets World episodes, but that page is currently a redirect to Girl Meets World. Looks like I need an administrator to do the move. I put in a request at WP:RM but according to the ensuing talk page discussion, it's non-controversial and doesn't need to be discussed through RM. Would you be able to move the capital-E "episodes" article to the lowercase-e "episodes" article?

And out of curiosity, is there some protocol for dealing with this in the future? I've seen a few AfC articles that could be accepted but can't be moved because they share a name with an already existing mainspace redirect. Thanks for your help! wia (talk) 22:05, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello, wia. Normally this would be no problem, but the requested page name has been protected because the title has been deleted twice already after a discussion. I could override this, but I am hesitant to do so until I contact the editor(s) who protected it. Apparently editors kept trying to list the episodes before they actually existed. I will investigate and get back to you. There is a process for this; you add {{db-move|Name of page to be moved here|reason}} to the redirect you want removed.—Anne Delong (talk) 22:26, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
Ah okay. Hope I haven't caused you any extra trouble with this. I see I still have much to learn about Wikipedia's inner workings! Nonetheless, thank you for your willingness to help! wia (talk) 22:35, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

Drafts where someone has just copied article to mainspace

In the old AfC postponed G13 articles I am finding cases where an editor, either the original one or another, just pasted the material into a mainspace article. Is there any point in having a history merge in this case, or just ask that the AfC draft be deleted as a duplicate? Thanks. StarryGrandma (talk) 20:05, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi, StarryGrandma. I have checked into this, and it depends on whether there is content in the old draft that isn't attributed properly in the new one. For example, if one editor makes a draft, and no one else adds to or changes the text (AFC comments don't count - they are deleted anyway), and then the same editor makes a copy in mainspace, then the old draft can be g-6'd. However, if more than one person worked on the draft, or if a different editor is the one who made the mainspace copy, then a history merge is needed to show who really created the content. If another editor came along and just changed the spacing or bolded a title or something it's not considered "attributable". Sometimes there is a problem if the copy-paste isn't noticed right away and there are edits with overlapping dates and times; that makes the history merge complicated and in most cases impractical. I have done a lot of these merges, so I'll be glad to work on any you find, or you can just tag them. And thanks for helping out with these old drafts! —Anne Delong (talk) 21:13, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
Here's what I have found recently.
Another article is just a duplicate attempt. Should I just ask for it to be deleted as A10 (though not newer)?
Thanks. There are so so so many old drafts! But some of it is so interesting it would be a shame to lose it. StarryGrandma (talk) 22:46, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
StarryGrandma, I have history-merged the first two. The Boas draft can't be deleted with A10 - that's just for article space. If there's any salvageable content, it could be moved to mainspace as a redirect, perhaps Natasha Boas (curator), for later possible content merging, but if not, maybe WP:MFD is the best way.—Anne Delong (talk) 04:03, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Duplicated information while accepting AfCs

Hello Anne Delong, your edit [1] at Joseph Brent duplicated several "internal" informations like persondata, categories and defaultsort. I have mentioned this problem a few months ago at AfC talk, but the reason for this behaviour couldn't be found (as far as I remember). If you know someone with more technical background knowledge at AfC (not sure who is maintaining AfC bots and tools actually), maybe it would be worthwhile to research this problem again - it happens sporadically at least 2-3 times per month (I usually notice it, when DEFAULTSORT is duplicated as this error populates an own maintenance category). If you need more information about this issue, please let me know. GermanJoe (talk) 13:49, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Found the old thread here Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Helper_script/Archive_2#Problems_with_AfC_cleanups?. Maybe the script needs 1-2 precautionary checks to display at least a brief warning message in such cases. GermanJoe (talk) 13:54, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Hi, GermanJoe. I'm afraid that I can't think of anyone to tell about this other than the guys who hang out at WT:AFCH, so I left another message there. In this case the original default sort data was wrong, so the duplication actually helped correct an error!—Anne Delong (talk) 15:10, 22 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for passing this along to the correct forum, Anne Delong (I am not that often in AfC topics). As I said, it "only" happens a few times a month, but would probably be worthwhile to optimize the script's behaviour in that regard. GermanJoe (talk) 15:15, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

Bodega Catena Zapata

Thanks for having a crack at this. I looked at it and was overwhelmed by the referencing, so decided to flag it as an issue and stand back for a while. Fiddle Faddle

Yes, it's discouraging when we try to keep promotional fluff from being moved out of AfC into the encyclopedia, only to find wads of it already there. The problem is that there are so many articles compared to the number of editors who care about policies. I cut the article down quite a bit, but I really don't know if the remaining sources are independent and reliable or not, so thanks for tagging it.—Anne Delong (talk) 17:23, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Despite your excellent use of a scalpel it still feels very promotional. I am pinging CorporateM to see if they might be willing to do one of their renowned tactical nuclear strikes to follow up your work. You have let us see the actual article, but it gets exhausting doing it. Fiddle Faddle 17:37, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
I moved the article to be named after the founder, Nicolás Catena, but then later changed my mind. The source material is focused on the family members, but there are several and it makes more sense to create one article on the vineyard covering the family, then separate articles on each person. Are either of you admins that can move the page back? CorporateM (Talk) 18:18, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
I am not. You make a persuasive point on the spawning of real articles from this. 18:38, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
I moved the article back. There was nothing to indicate that the family members were notable apart from their winery and winemaking activities, so I think that is the right title. The article could use more information about the winery itself.—Anne Delong (talk) 21:57, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I've finished with it and watchlisted. I think it's a pretty good stub at this point, though I wonder if it should have just been deleted as promotion. I didn't know my "tactical nuclear strikes" were renown, but hey. CorporateM (Talk) 22:50, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Draft:Roulette (play) concern

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Roulette (play), a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:33, 28 April 2015 (UTC)

Re:Kyle Dubas

I'd be incline to say that the draft for Kyle Dubas is just barely over the line of acceptability to exist here now as an independent article, however I should qualify that by pointing out that simply because it meets the minimum requirements does not necessarily mean it will last long here. I'd look for the draft version to end up with a csd or afd tag before May is out, but if you are willing to chance it then at this point I would say go for it :) TomStar81 (Talk) 01:28, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Okay, TomStar81, since you thought it was weak, I added a few more references before bumping it into mainspace. If it goes to AfD I'll add ten or twenty more, since there seems to be an endless supply. I hope not, though - I have no interest at all in hockey.—Anne Delong (talk) 03:33, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Need some help

Hi Anne. I've been helping a class of students from Berklee College of Music with their class assignments. A student created the new article BOP Studios, but got into a bit of a tangle because another editor had also moved their original sandbox to Draft:Bophuthatswana Recording Studios. That draft should be deleted as it contains extensive copyvio in the history, which I had removed. Background here. Apart from the student, I'm the only contributor to the draft, and that was only to remove the copyvio. Could you delete Draft:Bophuthatswana Recording Studios for me. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 06:39, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Voceditenore. Since the draft's creator had already added the useful material to mainspace, the draft was certainly no longer needed, so I deleted it under db-g6. Good luck with your students - we can always use more editors for music articles!—Anne Delong (talk) 11:31, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks so much, Anne! I'm hoping some of them might stay on after their class assignments. Who knows? Some of them have produced some very good stuff. Piano burning is my favourite. I had never heard of this practice until one of the students created it. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:39, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Johnbod. I've removed the AfC templates. Declined Draft http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Friday_Brown

Dear Anne,

Thanks for contacting me via email regarding my declined draft at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Friday_Brown

There has been some problem regarding notability and it's now almost a month since my last submission, so any help would, of course, be appreciated.

I have done fairly exhaustive online research on Friday Brown, but perhaps you can find even more about her!

All the best,

Ray

Rtwhite (talk) 10:43, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Dear Rtwhite: I linked a few of your references on line. A lot of these sources aren't very useful to show notability: user contributed databases, directory listings, etc. AllMusic would have been a good source if the staff there had written any content, but it seems they didn't. Links to you personal web site don't show notability either, and at best should be in the external links section (but only if you have permission from the copyright holders to post those tracks.) It seems that she was on a lot of television or radio shows; perhaps there are some newspaper reviews that aren't on line. —Anne Delong (talk) 10:23, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Dear Anne

As expected, the article has again been rejected on notability. I really don't have the time or resources to research offline, so I suspect that I'm going to have to abandon this entirely. I’ve nowhere else to go. I think it rather sad that Friday Brown should be consigned to the 'dustbin of history', especially when others of even lesser notability are included in Wikipedia. Take, for example, Helen Watson at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Watson_(singer-songwriter)

Anyway, many thanks for your efforts. They're much appreciated.

All the very best,

Ray

Rtwhite (talk) 08:54, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Rtwhite, I looked at the page you pointed out, Helen Watson (singer-songwriter), and yes, it was poorly sourced, but when I did a search I found quite a bit of coverage of her work. Likely the difference is that because she has remained active into the internet age, there is more to be found on line. Perhaps in the future as more old magazine and newspaper issues from the 1960s - 1980s are digitized, there will be more coverage available for Friday. If this happens, the draft article can be revived and added to the encyclopedia, so you efforts may pay off sometime in the future. —Anne Delong (talk) 21:12, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Arrietty

Dear CosmicEmperor: Although the film is called "The Secret World of Arrietty" in the US, it's original title, still used in most parts of the world, is "Arrietty". There is extensive discussion about this at Talk:Arrietty, resulting in a consensus to keep the current name. If you feel that since that discussion the longer name has become most common, you should start a new discussion on the talk page and try for a new consensus, using reliable journalistic or book sources, not the ones you have given here. Good luck!—Anne Delong (talk) 14:54, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

About Draft:The Compassionate Friends

Hi Anne,
I see you have declined this WP:AFC.
I think it might pass the criteria for a mainspace article, though of course I would need to justify this assertion.
I'd hate to "tread on your toes" about this. What do you think?
Pete AU AKA --Shirt58 (talk) 10:32, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello, Shirt58. That was quite a while ago. The topic is notable, but the article was written as a promotion of the organization, with only material included that would attract people to the group, and referenced mainly to material written by its members. I added some sources, and removed some opinion and argument. The article shouldn't have text about what the organization's plans, hopes, ideas, etc., but only about actual events and accomplishments.

I notice that there is no mention of this in the article.

Just so that you're aware, I've recently been dealing with an OTRS ticket from someone who has received the same fake emails from your impersonator a couple of days ago (relevant ticket nos.: #2015061910012314, #2015061910012323, #2015061810000338, though all regarding the same issue). Not much to report - the email address was anne_delong hotmail.com, but that's about all the info that was forthcoming. Yunshui  11:58, 19 June 2015 (UTC)

Yunshui. See also Michig's talk page here (directly below the Signpost contents). That makes three administrators who have now been impersonated by these people. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 14:54, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Here's another case, this time a non-administator but experienced editor impersonated with the same wording: [2]. 15:02, 19 June 2015 (UTC)
Hello, Yunshui. Thanks for keeping me up to date. I don't have a hotmail account.—Anne Delong (talk) 05:49, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello Anne,

Mr. Rajeev jain asked me that did I ask Anne to write an article about me? I thought I should also inform you for this fake email.

Thanks, Bhartendunatyaakademi, for passing on the text. I certainly did not send that. Although I have no objection to helping people improve their draft articles, I prefer to discuss this openly on the talk pages, and of course I would edit in a neutral way. —Anne Delong (talk) 18:36, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

  • Yunshui, it occurs to me that since the impersonator is using hotmail to scam people, Microsoft may be happy to delete his/her fake account. —Anne Delong (talk) 20:12, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
Definitely worth lodging a complaint, though I suspect if their hotmail account is blocked they'll simply create a new one impersonating someone else. You might want to consider a note on your userpage (since it keeps getting linked to in these emails) along the same lines as Michig's. Yunshui  07:50, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Kundan Srivastava

Anne Delong What I know bout Wikipedia is one of the largest organization in World So, Consider him for his contribution towards society. Kundan Srivastava (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Kundan_Srivastava) is honest and notable personality in India and Yes! He has no money to buy Indian media to write about him. He was achiever from his 14 years of age. He was achiever in college and working towards mission of crime against Women. Go through here: https://www.facebook.com/founderkundansrivastava He is also fighting case for America rape case and Sri Lanka rape case. Thanks !

Bihngo (talk) 16:34, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello Bihngo. Wikipedia only has articles about people who are already well known. It does seem that there is very little that has been written in the mainstream media about this person. While it is true that some people and companies pay to have announcements and profiles about them in newspapers ("press releases"), the Wikipedia editors don't count these. If a person is really well known enough to be in an encyclopedia, journalists and other authors will write about him anyway, because such articles are of general interest to their readers. A discussion among several experienced editors only two months ago has resulted in an agreement that there should not be and article about him at this time. Perhaps as time goes on Mr. Srivastava's efforts will attract more attention from journalists, and his book will be reviewed in major magazines or newspapers, etc. If this happens, the draft you have created can be further developed into an article, but this is much too soon.—Anne Delong (talk) 19:24, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Co-op Pilot Results & Mentoring

Hey there! The Co-op has been on a hiatus for a bit, but we are planning on opening up shop again soon. When you're able, please read over and respond to this update on our talk page. We have favorable results from our final report regarding the pilot, and we are interested in seeing who is available to mentor when we reopen our space and begin to send out invites again. Thanks, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:16, 24 June 2015 (UTC)

"Rajeev Jain"

Dear Anne,

I shall appreciate if you can help me to improve the article on "Rajeev Jain". Please do see this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Rajeev_Jain. There are lots of Rajeev Jain on google and its very common name in India. Please google Rajeev Jain (Cinematographer) as "Rajeev Jain Cinematographer".

Hello, Bhartendunatyaakademi. I took a look at the page you are working on. You have a lot of references listed, but many are not suitable. As a start to improving the draft, you should remove references that are personal blogs, business listings, wikis, press releases and databases. Only leave the references that are news articles (written by journalists), magazine articles and books. Two or at most three citations for a particular fact will suffice if the references are in reliable publications with editors. Also, the citations should not be after the person's name, but at the end of the sentence which the source supports.

I hope this helps.—Anne Delong (talk) 10:54, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Wrong user

AFCH appears to have notified the wrong user.[3] --Guy Macon (talk) 14:19, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Guy Macon. I have notified the appropriate editor. Not sure how that happened.... maybe someone was messing with the script. —Anne Delong (talk) 16:43, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Need your admin help re a draft

Hi Anne. I need a favour. User:Lmelk/Museion (Bozen) had been submitted for review and declined. But the reviewer also blanked a small section of the draft as copyvio with the massive Template:Copyviocore. Overkill in my view—that small amount of text should have simply been removed. Anyhow, the creator followed the instructions on the template and rewrote the whole draft at User talk:Lmelk/Museion (Bozen)/Temp which I've approved from the copyright point of view here. Could you delete User:Lmelk/Museion (Bozen), replace it with User talk:Lmelk/Museion (Bozen)/Temp and perhaps move the whole thing to draft space where it belongs? Best, Voceditenore (talk) 16:39, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks so much, again, Anne. I agree with your advice to the editor re sourcing and have left some tips for him/her at Draft:Museion (Bozen). Best, Voceditenore (talk) 17:16, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

G13 rescue

Hi, are you using catscan to turn up G13 eligible pages. The category itself is broken, the process that is supposed to push pages into the category isn't working properly and you don't see all the pages here. There are much more than 250 G13 eligible drafts!

I've done a list of the Drafts last edited in December at User:Rankersbo/December 2015/Drafts. Rankersbo (talk) 09:03, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Thanks, Rankersbo, that's helpful. I figured something was up when the numbers suddenly dropped. I have been dealing with some real life issues which have limited my time here this past month, resulting in my previously postponed pages starting to disappear. If I get a handle on those I will check out your list. Hopefully when the new process kicks in the problem with the category will be fixed at the same time.—Anne Delong (talk) 09:23, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
