Hi Angus , I just started getting into Leinster works.mostly been in connacht and Munster, so I am getting myself a bit oriented on the research and organizing it. I could tackle this category though as a bit of a prelude. i'd like to do some more tribal (clan/sept) stuff as well as biographies. British Museum and what is in there

Okay, casting about wildly, trying to find out a source for my one remaining issue with Gerard, Archbishop of York. (Yeah, I know. It's an Archbishop of York, I get bored with Archbishops of Canterbury sometimes) Down in the legacy section, someone put in that some of his verses are preserved in the British Museum. The ODNB doesn't mention such a thing. None of my other sources say it either. I hate to lose the information, since I'm pretty sure it's possible, but I have no idea how to verify the information. Hello. For your information, Kuban kazak has blatantly abused both consensus and good faith rules by writing “… there will be no consensus”[1]. Too bad you, an administrator, didn’t chastise him in the first place. As for Mr. Kuban himself, he is an established troll, hooligan and pro-Russian propagandist. Leinster Kings

Hi Angus! My search has gone well and I will be moving at the end of the month. Just started working on the early leinster kings. Bit of a mess but I'm starting to sort it out. research gets more exhaustive after a while and I may be making a trip to the university soon to get my data sorted out better. Angus, I did not understand your comment, seems that you are objecting to placing this image in Commons because there is a danger that it will be removed for technical reasons. If it can help, the source is described as old photo published in Adrianov A.V., "Selections from field notes of kurgan excavations in Minusinsk territory", Minusinsk, 1902-1924, p.56, and re-published in Devlet M.A., "Great Salbyk kurgan - a grave of a tribel chief", in "History of Siberia", Tomsk, 1976, p. 147. Œthel?

I took a look at various sources' spellings of Cenred of Mercia, wondering if it should be moved to Coenred of Mercia. The sources I've show far match up with those I listed at Talk:Coenwulf of Mercia#Article name: Yorke, Campbell, and Stenton use "Cenred", and Kirby uses "Coenred". Couldn't find a reference to him in the Blackwell Encyclopedia. Zaluckyj uses "Coenred"; the PASE uses "Cenred". The consistency made me wonder if the underlying letter in the original orthography was an œthel. If so, then I wonder if it would be worth trying to be consistent about how we transliterate œthels in article names; always as "e", or always as "oe". It would be odd to have "Coenwulf", but "Cenred", if they are both the same underlying letter. If I'm right that the underlying letter really is a œthel, then I'd marginally prefer "oe", just because it provides a clue to the original orthography. What do you think? Lóegaire mac Néill

Your articles are always way better constructed than mine and always look good. The only data i know of that differs is that in the Annals of Ulster which is part of the original Iona Chronicle it is mentioned that Crimthann mac Énnai Cennsalach(d.486) was the king who fought Lóegaire mac Néill at the Battle of Áth Dara-year 459 -coinciding with the reference in the Bóroma saga. Crimthann's brother Eochu was said to be the killer of Niall Noigallach as well which if Nialls later death obit of 450 is accepted is more chronologically feasible. There is also a reference by Keating to wars between Enna Cennselach and Eochu Mugmedon the grandfather of Leogaire. Cant think of anything else right now about Leogaire .I have some more data to Aed mac Colggan to add, hope I didnt butcher the article too much.Timelinefrog (talk) 05:18, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

well now that my big sister has persuaded me to submit my Y-dna to a certain company I have got to read the great work of a man called Stephen Oppenheimer [2], who thinks that everyone believes what Gildas said. It feels a bit like he has set up an aunt sally and then made a great fuss about knocking it down. I'm sure we have been saying for some time that (a) the 4th century British were part of a north European mix of the kind you get in big empires, and full of foreigners, and (b) that the slaughtered and debauched maidens at the altars running with gore in Gildas were, at any rate, only part of the picture. However he does perhaps have quite a lot to say about prehistoric migrations and I look forward to it, so that I can decide what to have carved on my menhir. Thanks for the good wishes, it was the anniversary of my heart attack 2 days ago and I feel a landmark has been passed! P.S. I haven't had another one - yet. Categories

Could you tell me how to create category pages. I'm working on Uisnech and Dal nAraidi kings and will move onto Brega and Ailech so would like to create category pages like the ones for kings of Ulster, Munster, Connacht, and Leinster. Thanks for your message. If you know adding the colon between the "Template" and "Convert" won't be straightforward (i.e. not something a bot can do) then I guess it's not a good idea. As to prefixing the name with "Wikipedia", I don't think that'd be worthwhile. I've recently obtained AWB, so, if I'm ever bored in a peculiar way, I might try setting it to add the colons. If you are then I can not figure out where you found the consensus at the discussion in Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2008_March_3#Energy. Please note Wikipedia:Category_deletion_policy Quote: "...Make sure there is a rough consensus to delete..." Apparently your decision - not a consensus resulted in the deletion of Category:Transducer based power conversion, Category:Mechanical energy gearing and Category:Mechanical energy transfer... WikiProject Football importance?

I notice you adjusted various Talk pages tonight. Looking at the scale, even aside from my own affections, I'd be thinking Stirling Albion should maybe be Mid (as nationally known) whereas Cumbernauld Utd are Low (as per the Leek Town example)? AllyD (talk) 22:49, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Looking at various Scottish Div 1 & 2 pages, they're mainly lacking the Importance value (even Queens Park, who probably deserve a higher rating than most in view of their history) so there is probably a need for a consistent norm. Taking a couple of English lower league teams at random (Orient and Crewe Alex), they're sitting with Mid Importance, so that does seem the right value for the SFL teams. (I bet you wish you were still looking out on Firs Park! The "Pointless" book of a couple of years ago is quite a good read) AllyD (talk) 19:53, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Billy Sheehan

Hi, the speedy deletion clause A7 applies to articles about a person where the article does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. I listed the article for speedy because Billy Sheehan (Gaelic football) falls into that category. For now, I'll remove the speedy based on WP:Athlete, and I'll replace with a tag looking for extra references. The article needs a disambuigation to distinguish it from the other Billy Sheehan Bardcom (talk) 00:46, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

A more perfect union

Boldness in closing afds from non admins is not to be encouraged--it only leads to DR. I agree that the article was of course a keep, but I'd have waited another half day and so should he have. Hi Angus - I believe you were one of the mentors appointed to the Great Hunger article following an Arbcom case. User:Sarah777 is claiming on that page that the Arbcom ruling on her not using WP:SYNTHESIS means she can retitle the article in this AfD (its looking like the AfD won't be carried). Re RfA

Hey, just letting you know that I responded to your comments on my talk page. I hope you realize that you'll see my balance criteria spring up a lot, but I hope that you can look past the superficial wording for what I'm really trying to convey - that practicality and empirical application mean a ton in this business. I like your reference to WP:COMMON though. You are absolutely correct. That's why I mentioned there were exceptions to my "rule"...in quotes...because..frankly, it's not an immutable rule..so to speak..more like a guideline : ). If you look at every single RfA I've commented on (I don't recommend it..it might be boring), you'll see that I've done my homework many times on potential candidates. I hope that doesn't elude you. Anyway, I really respect the way you approached me about this. As it says on my user page - watch for my contributions, bark at me if they rub you the wrong way. Flaithbertach mac Inmainén

Hi. Thanks for the advice on articles. I get caught up in just getting the article written and tend to ignore the exact details of sources. I do plan to go back at some point and improve this but I tend to enjoy the research more than anything. Because I have been focusing on the 5th-8th centuries in Irish history, I don't have any info on the above king. I'll get to the Viking period eventually. i will experiment a bit with improving my reference citations and I'll start using (died year) instead of (d.year). Oh by the way I use Onomasticon Goedelicum to find geographical refernces to battles when possible. It's not always clear though.Timelinefrog (talk) 02:39, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Again, thanks for everything!. The improvements you made to Irgalach mac Conaing gave me the example I needed to add decent footnotes. Now I can see how to resolve my use of McCarthy's chronology with the articles that do not. I have had some backoff on improving some bios because of this. I admit I use Mccarthy as a bit of a bible regarding dates. After spending some time in a dictionary trying to figure out his theory, it began to make too much sense for me to ignore it. Dates are unfortunately only a problem for the period I have been concentrating on in the 5th-7th centuries and they begin to align in the 8th century, so hopefully I don't cause too much problems with chronology for other editors.Timelinefrog (talk) 22:48, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Maps at Wallonia & Flanders

When Sarah created 620 in Ireland, she had the content in (I believe Irish Gaelic), it was correctly changed to English (before my comment there), sorry for the confusion. PS- Things are getting nasty in Belgium, aren't they? GoodDay (talk) 23:35, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

irish kings

Hi Angus! Love what you are doing with the articles on irish high kings. I've been going back over my articles and cleaning them up and improving them. So not a lot of personal creativity right now. That template you showed me looks pretty good, I might try it. I'm moving soon so might not be around for a few days. let me know if any edits I do conflict with yours. Noticed that you have mentioned Conall Grant as brother of Fogartach mac Néill in some articles on the Meath kings. You mention that Irwin calls him brother and Charles-Edwards calls him uncle. I wonder what primary reference they get their data from. In the Annals of Ulster and the poem on Síl nÁedo Sláine in the Book of Leinster, Conall is called grandson of Cernaig Sotal. He could be the son of a different unmentioned son of Cernaig Sotal. I don't have access to Oxford Biographical articles so can't check out Irwin.
