Notability

The existence of a company is important to the people running a directory - they don't want entries for companies no longer in business. Wikipedia is not a directory. We require more than existence, and we have many articles about companies that are no longer in existence. We require notability, please see WP:CORP for notability of companies. Also, WP:RS is essential reading. Directories entries don't need to be referenced to anything more than the company site. For us, the company site is not a reliable independent source, but it can be used as an external link - not for showing notability. The vast majority of the world's companies will not get articles. This doesn't mean that they are not doing their work well. It means that they haven't got the widespread coverage we require. Peridon (talk) 19:14, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
