I wasn't actually experimenting, I thought it would be a good change to make.

Hi, please remember to sign your posts with four tildes. I have added the standard welcome message to your talk page; hopefully it will help you familiarize yourself with WP. KillerChihuahua?!? 09:10, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Verifiability edit

Andrew, it would be appreciated if you could hold off from making changes to the policy pages. In the case of WP:V, the changes contradicted the rest of the policy. We only publish what reliable sources have published. We don't use "truth" as our criterion, because everyone disagrees on what is true on any given point. So our policy is that if e.g. the London Times says it, we publish it and cite them. SlimVirgin (talk) 10:50, 22 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fan Death edit

I point out to you that the other four quotes in the article are representative of the scientific consensus on the subject. Almost all experts in the field classify it as an urban legend, and not doing so is lending undue weight to the POV that fan death is a real phenomenon, and that lending undue weight to a minority position is against Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy. --Kuzaar-T-C- 12:49, 29 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Even so, if you read the first quote carefully, note that he categorically disbelieves in the phenomenon of fan death, thinking that it is, at worst, a contributing factor to the death of people with far more serious problems. That is the reason that I strongly believe that the article should refer to fan death- that is, death for which the fan in the room is the primary cause- as an urban legend. --Kuzaar-T-C- 12:27, 30 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Milford Sound Airport edit

Hello Andrew,

Nice to see you working on here. Thanks for creating the Milford Sound Airport page. I did a couple smaller fixes and wikifications. Can I ask a couple additional questions?

  • Is that the official name? Not "airfield"/"aerodrome" or something? Just checking.
  • Do you have any official statistics in terms of flight numbers? I already tried to dig up stuff for my work on Transport in Milford Sound, but managed to find nothing. I heard that in fact it would be one of the busiest airports in New Zealand...
  • Can you provide a few more references? Such as for the first landing, and for the runway data ect... I was gonna stick a {{moresources}} tag on it, but that would have been a bit rude, seeing that I could just ask you as well...

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Toylovesmall.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Toylovesmall.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 02:34, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

File:Ohai.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading this media, it's appreciated.

However, it would be nice if you could give some kind of indication as to what license the media is under. That way other people can be confident in making use of it for many varied purposes :)

Adding license information also helps prevent media you've put effort into creating from being deleted :)

You may wish to read Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tags#For_image_creators which will assist you :) Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:07, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for uploading free images/media to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view your previous uploads). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:31, 13 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Shelling of Yeonpyeong merger edit

You are supposed to discuss it, not just remove the tag.Mztourist (talk) 08:34, 23 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

They are all major current events when they happen, it is too early to say whether or not this will develop into something bigger or if this is the end of things. As I said in the tag, apart from more details of the actual shelling, the page is mostly a rehash of information already contained on the NLL page. The tag should stay for now, Wikipedians can discuss and then a decision can be made at a later date on whether or not it should be merged. RegardsMztourist (talk) 09:01, 23 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Toylovesmall.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 08:25, 19 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:750px-LOR Milford small.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:750px-LOR Milford small.jpg, which you've sourced to Glenorchy Air. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 00:38, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for December 29 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Glenorchy Air, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Queenstown and Glenorchy (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Notification of automated file description generation edit

Your upload of File:750px-LOR Milford small.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! "the largest being Dunedin then Auckland" Thames, New Zealand edit

I notice that this statement has been in the Thames article for around ten years. It looks as if you put it in there. If you had said that Dunedin was the most significant city in the country at that time it would not have bothered me. I am a Wellingtonian. I have always understood that though it may have been very poor and disorganised Auckland was always the largest settlement. Can you provide a citation for your claim? — otherwise it has to go doesn't it. Eddaido (talk) 03:58, 9 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Kiwi Water Park edit

The article Kiwi Water Park has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability not established

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay edit

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
