State highway lists edit

When you add a bunch of old highways to a list, like you did to List of secondary highways in Montana, and that results in missing marker graphics, you might want to be a little proactive to save people time and list the missing graphics at WP:USRD/S/R for someone to create them. (Of course, if you have Inkscape, the right fonts and a little skill, you could make them yourself, but not everyone can do that.) At least if you make a list, it saves someone else the trouble of finding the article in Category:Articles with missing files, and then either trying to bypass the missing graphics to "fix" the article or having to figure out from the category itself that they can list a request for us to make the missing graphics.

In short, if you know you've just created a need for some missing graphics, just save others a little time and request them so we can make them in short order. P.S. You might want to look into archiving your talk page. It's getting rather too long. Imzadi 1979  03:34, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • I archived the talk page. I will list shields at WP:USRD/S/R.Alexlatham96 (talk) 03:41, 4 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Do you have more updates to the Wisconsin list planned? Some would like to know so we can make the appropriate requests of the bot on Commons. It is more efficient to have a complete list before engaging the bot, and for smaller lists, they're best handled manually.
Again, it would be nice if you could make the requests yourself after creating the need. Such requests should include the list of missing graphics per the instructions on the request page, not just a pointer to a page missing a bunch of graphics so that someone else has to sort them out. Imzadi 1979  15:38, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yeah this jumping around among lists is tiresome. It'd be preferred if you'd stick to one list at a time and make sure it's complete-ish before jumping to the next. To quote Ron Swanson, "never half-ass two things. Whole ass one thing." –Fredddie 16:55, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
No other new shields for the Wisconsin list are necessary.Alexlatham96 (talk) 20:39, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I just requested the missing shields for Wisconsin. Only twelve of them are necessary.Alexlatham96 (talk) 20:46, 8 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Tennessee state highways edit

Hello, thank you for your contributions to articles about Tennessee state highways. First of all, in case you are unaware, this website contains a list of all current and former state highways and gives an idea of when they were established and decommissioned. This appears to be a personal blog, however, and I would suggest corroborating it with reliable sources. Also, we may want to split all of the former routes at the list article (including reused designations) into a separate section. Or, if it gets too long, fork it into List of former state routes in Tennessee, although I am leaning towards the former. It would also be good if we could get images of pre-1983 shields for decommissioned routes; at least one exists. Finally, I don't know if you are e aware, but the viability of road articles on Wikipedia has unfortunately recently come under attack by non-content contributors to the point of where several long-time and top road editors have quit. That being said, it is probably more important than ever to improve road articles, especially stubs and short oneI actually have a plan to work on getting more content into short Tennessee state route articles, especially history sections. I don't know how much I'll be able to do, but most of these articles are certainly in need of improvement, and anything helps. Bneu2013 (talk) 01:48, 10 November 2023 (UTC)isReply

  • Splitting the former routes section may be a good idea. I do think that the suffixed routes and spur routes (1A, 1 Business, 1 Bypass, 1 Spur, etc.) could be moved to a separate section called "Suffixed Routes", like the North Carolina state highways article. I did know that people were trying to delete or redirect road articles, but I didn't know that people were quitting Wikipedia over it! Alexlatham96 (talk) 02:46, 10 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately yes. I actually don't know of any instances where US road articles have directly come under attack, but the maps RfC and other discussions led a number of the top road editors to believe that it was a likelihood in near future. I am concerned that losing these editors, as well as the AARoads wiki split will only serve to give credence to and empower the anti-content contributors. That's why I plan to remain on Wikipedia and only edit road articles here. Anyways, since most suffixed routes are former (I only know of two remaining) they could either go in a former routes section. Or we could create a suffixed routes section, and list which ones are former, since nearly all former routes are suffixed, but I'm leaning towards the former. I would also like to find the exact dates that each route was incorporated, but I'm not sure anything about this is available online. The closest I've found is the biennial departmental reports. I'm actually thinking about contacting TDOT about this. Bneu2013 (talk) 21:26, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • I saw what happened a few days ago. Some editors left and created AARoads wiki, and two editors underwent a controversial 1-week block for "canvassing to keep a road article". I'm staying here for obvious reasons, but may also join the AARoads forum and wiki later.Alexlatham96 (talk) 23:34, 30 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
