naxi consonants edit

hi, here's the source for the consonants and vowels:

Ramsey, S. Robert. 1987. The Languages of China. Princeton University Press, Princeton New Jersey ISBN 0-691-06694-9

hope that helps.

minor edits edit

Hi!

Quick note on WP:minor edits: these are only supposed to be used for completely trivial edits like layout, typography, links. Edits like this already count as modifying the actual content of the article. An editor could well want a source for that, given that we have phonology data in the article that claims /ɕ/ rather that /ç/ in the language, but miss it due to not watchlisting minor edits…

Speedy deletion of "René Gsell" edit

A page you created, René Gsell, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how they are important or significant, and thus why they should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for biographies in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thank you. Josh3580talk/hist 04:24, 29 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Thanks for your speedy move. Gsell did not publish a great deal but he was a great guy. His Wikipedia page will provide more information on this as time goes by. It's already better now than when you first visited it, I should hope. Best AlexisMichaud (talk) 04:51, 29 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Josh, Wow! Second speedy deletion today. My earlier plea for not being too speedy deleting new entries was apparently not successful or convincing. Hey, a full professor who is a recipient of a CNRS Silver Medal questioned as not important or significant... Makes we wonder what the standards are for inclusion in Wikipedia. Nobel Prize? Not that I consider the CNRS Silver Medal by itself as undeniable proof of significance. But please take a look around the Internet and by your own criteria (American-style number of citations? other ways to assess scientific influence on a field?) you can see for yourself that this is an important character... not? Draft:Stéphane Michaud: a different view edit

Stéphane Michaud is a notable author. The reviews of his books prove it. It is likely that he is also a notable academic. Contrary to the view of another editor, I believe your citations are sufficient evidence of notability and, after some improvements, I expect the draft will be approved. This is what I suggest to improve the draft:

A strong lead is needed, with a clear summary of why the subject is notable. It might say something like:

Stéphane Michaud is a French scholar specializing in comparative literature. He is a professor emeritus at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris where he has taught since the 1990s. He has written or edited 11 books, a body of work that has been widely cited in his field.

Add any further biographical details you can find a reference for, especially year of birth. See the infobox writer template for other ideas. Add a photo if you can get permission to use one (see Wikipedia:Image use policy).

In the Biography section write a prose description of some of his publications. Explain:

  • where they fit in Michaud's career (written while he was living in Cambodia, his first book, a book developed from his doctoral thesis, his most widely cited work, etc.)
  • what was significant about them (in which he developed the new theory of..., the first academic study of..., etc.)
  • what the cited reviewers said about them (praised for..., criticized for..., etc.)

Add context. Readers are likely to know of Mario Vargas Llosa and Freud, but those who don't speak French or German are less likely to know Flora Tristan, Lou Andreas-Salomé, Yves Bonnefoy, or Wulf Kirsten. Add internal links to appropriate Wikipedia articles and summarize in a few sentences who these people are and why Michaud wrote about them. Similarly, readers may know the Sorbonne Nouvelle, but are less likely to know the Société des études romantiques et dix-neuviémistes or the International Comparative Literature Association. A sentence or two describing what they are and how important they are would be useful.

Thank you for your contribution. I enjoyed reading it and look forward to the next draft. Worldbruce (talk) 03:04, 6 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much. I will follow your clear and helpful suggestions asap. All best! Alexis

AlexisMichaud (talk) 11:27, 6 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

You left a message at JustBerry's talk page. To my knowledge JustBerry has retired and will no longer reply to messages left him. I'd echo Worldbruce's comments above: Right now the biographical information is far too short and does not cite any reliable third-party sources. There's nothing about Michaud's education, nothing on the theories he advanced, nothing on how his works were received, no context. The article is a mere publication list, and while so many reviewed publications are a strong indication that he is indeed notable, we would need some content that actually discusses Michaud himself in some detail. For example, I couldn't even tell from the draft that Michaud is emeritus. Huon (talk) 16:30, 6 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Pangloss Collection edit

Dear AlexisMichaud,

I've noticed that Pangloss Collection (which you've contributed to) exists in English and Italian, but has no corresponding French page. Assuming you can speak French, would you be willing to start an entry in French WP, when you can? That would be great, especially because Pangloss is originally a French creation, by LACITO. If I can, I'll help you out. Thx — Womtelo (talk) 13:47, 4 August 2017 (UTC).Reply

OK, will do! Thanks for the suggestion.

Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
