Hi Sorry, I'm finding the help instructions to be a bit baffling for the uninitiated. My query was regarding an article (sertoli cell tumors). I have only made small edits to Wiki in the past. The article on sertoli cell tumors is confusing and inaccurate. It needs to be heavily edited. I'm finding the help pages to be very confusing about how I should do this. Unfortunately I don't have time at the moment to research how to edit the page properly. I would suggest that a warning concerning the factual accuracy of the page be displayed.

On a separate note, I found the 'talk' aspect for discussing pages (which is what I tried to do first) to be completely baffling. I could not figure it out at all.

Thanks.

  1. I sympathise 100% with you over how confusing you find various aspects of how to edit Wikipedia. The help pages are written with the best of intentions, but they are just too complicated: nobody can be expected to read all of them before editing.
  2. I have looked at the article Sertoli cell tumour, and I totally agree that it is confusing and badly organised. As for the inaccuracy, I can only take your word for that, as I know nothing about the subject. I have placed tags on the page mentioning the concerns, but they are best regarded as a short-term fix while improvements are made, not a long-term solution.
  3. A suggestion about making improvements to the article. Make a few very small changes to begin with, correcting one or two of the most glaring defects, rather than trying to do a major rewrite. Don't worry too much about following what help pages, guidelines, etc say. Just make some small improvement to the text of the article, read it back to check that it looks all right, and if so feel satisfied that you have made a start. Then come back another time when you feel you can afford the time, and do another small improvement.
  4. I can't help with the medical information, because I don't know anything about it, but if you want to ask me about Wikipedia formatting and stuff like that, please feel welcome to ask me on my talk page. I don't promise to have the answer to every question, but there's a reasonable chance I will be able to help. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:16, 16 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Well you seem to have mastered talk pages now! I would suggest just starting a section at Talk:Sertoli cell tumour, and putting down your draft for a section of the article, or the whole thing. But it is crucial to include high-quality references of the types described at WP:MEDRS. You can just put them in the right place in the draft. Failing that you could send me a draft by email - see menu at left on my user page. Good luck! Wiki CRUK John (talk) 13:54, 20 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
