Thanks for your comments on Edit Summaries on the Manual of Style page

Thanks for your comments on the Manual of Style page. What I was trying to do, when my edits were repeatedly reverted, is described here. I'd appreciate your input. LittleBen (talk) 09:07, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Ping

It's been a while since I said I'd get back to you, so I thought I'd let you know I've replied. --Floquenbeam (talk) 17:00, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Richard Cragun Dates

Thanks for the message about the Richard Cragun dates. Since he is identified as an American dancer I felt American date formatting would be more appropriate. If someone else feels more strongly about it, and reverts it, that's OK with me. Thanks, again. - Michael David (talk) 17:39, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Removal of underscores in tz template

Hi, I am curious why you did this revision: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template%3ATz%2Fcountry_code&diff=499401741&oldid=496248704 . Pages use the underscore version of the template, not spaces. I assume you did this conversion to the other tz templates too. Please revert the spaces back to underscores, or give a good reason for doing so. It will be a pain in the butt to change 65+ pages to use the spaces for no reason... Regards, Harry (talk) 07:53, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

I think I was just following what was there, though I need to look at it more carefully to see why. I'll get back to you by Monday, ok? —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 14:40, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm still working on figuring out exactly why this was done, and what the effects of changing it are. The underscores are certainly present in the tz database, though they can't actually be part of the individual article titles. I may end up combining this with an update to the latest version of the database while I'm at it. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 16:02, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
I don't know what you're talking about. The earliest revisions to the tz templates use underscores. In general, on Wikipedia, spaces are replaced by underscores in URLs/templates. I don't see why it would change anytime soon, as all the pages use underscore model. Harry (talk) 17:14, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
There was clearly a reason, though, that I changed it after initially uploading the new data the other way (with the underscores). That is what I'm trying to determine from looking at notes and correspondence from the time. I will take care of it, though.

While we're on the subject, can I get an opinion on what to do about some historical identifiers, like "EST", that are generic enough to where the id already exists as a pagename for something else in WP (in this case, a dab page). Should they be created as something like "Tz ID/EST"? I'd have been happier with the whole collection of those id articles under a common prefix (like "Tz ID/") – any thoughts on a wholesale move? I'm not that educated on the whole tz deal. I just noticed about the underscores because it broke a ton of pages I tried to view, and know stuff usually uses underscores on templates. It's really best to not edit templates in any way that existing articles that use them get broken by it (view Antarctica/South_Pole as an example of what the spaces vs underscore in the template do to the page), as you probably know -- unless you're prepared to deal with editing a lot of pages and dealing with broken stuff! :) Harry (talk) 18:28, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
I am, and will. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 21:17, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Done, AFAICT. Let me know if you see anything wrong. I'm going to work on a diff list against the current release to see if I can bring things up to date. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 03:40, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Yep, looks much better, thanks for fixing that! Harry (talk) 00:20, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Palm Island Airport

That template is used in quite a few airport for that purpose. There is not much point in having it in the external links because there have not been any accidents at the airport. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 05:52, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

I simply moved it away from the IATA code because it's not a reference for that. I would suggest it remain in the external links (here and elsewhere). It seems as important to report no accidents as details when they do happen. Not to mention that the article doesn't have to be updated to add the link after an accident. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 20:40, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
I wouldn't have used it myself if it hadn't been used so many times in other articles. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 22:10, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Moon math - thanks

I had noticed that same diameter/density thing in the Moon article, but never got around to fixing it. Thanks. - Special-T (talk) 01:30, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

It seems I'm in nit-pick mode today, so I thought I'd do something constructive with it :) —[AlanM1(talk)]— 01:34, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Kariye

More "official" news of the government of Somalia at [1] today. A one-liner about the apparently insignificant election of the new president, followed by more about the apparent next PM (since the Pres position got filled by someone less qualified), the amazing Kariye:

Monday, September 10, 20125:00:37 PM Insha Allah! Meet and talk to your next most educated and the Future Somali Prime Minister Ambassador Dr. Badal W. Kariye "Dr. Humble" who's the renowned author of 6 novels and four academic books. [more drivel]

complete with broken links, and links to some kind of crap on Facebook that tries to redirect with all sorts of jumping around (I haven't investigated if it's malware or not – be careful). How can you regard anything this guy does as official or reliable? How can you not want to tell someone in power about this clown so they can do something about it? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 04:32, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Not sure what this post is about, as the idiosyncratic nature of Badal has already been established. So has Muse Hassan as interim President of Somalia (c.f. European Commission [2]). Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 13:53, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
