Archive URLs

Please add the |url-status= parameter when adding the |archive-url= parameter. By default, if |archive-url= is used, |url-status=dead and the main link is to the archive. Whywhenwhohow (talk) 04:05, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

Before my edits on the Remdesivir page, the link to "How Remdesivir, New Hope for Covid-19 Patients, Was Resurrected" shows I have to make an account to read the full article, unless I toggle Reader View in Firefox at just the right moment before the page has finished loading. Correct formula for calculating active cases

Good afternoon Aku-PDF-Finder,

The formula for calculating Active cases in the Irish COVID-19 article is Total cases – Total recoveries – Total deaths and NOT Active cases + New cases. Leave the de-notified cases alone because it has nothing to do with active cases.

On my talk page, you mentioned that on 22 April, you see 6,669 active cases in the timeline graph... What timeline graph exactly? We don't have a timeline graph; we only have a Timeline section on the main article and an entire Timeline article. The correct term for the daily cases, deaths and recoveries graph is template chart; which I have triple-checked, and found nothing wrong.

On 20 April, it is 15,652 total cases – 687 total deaths – 25 total recoveries = 14,940 active cases NOT 14,965.

On 11 August, it is 26,801 total cases – 24,000 total recoveries – 1,773 total deaths totalling 1,028 active cases NOT 1,029.

On 12 August, it is 26,838 total cases – 24,000 total recoveries – 1,774 total deaths totalling 1,064 active cases NOT 1,067.

This active cases method have been used on this article since April. There shouldn't be any mistakes whatsoever for active cases on the article.

Hi Edl-irishboy, now I see it's the subtraction method being used. On the COVID-19 page for Ireland, I see 24,000 recovered has this source. How did you get 24,000 recovered from 36:36 in that video ?

The Worldometers and Corona Scanner websites show Ireland has 23,364 recovered cases, so it's 2,119 active cases there.

For 22 April, where I see 6,669 active cases on the template chart: https://imgur.com/DpR0Sel, is that correct ?

Hi Aku-PDF-Finder, I am extremely sorry for the very late reply (one month later)!!!. I understand why you don't understand how I got 24,000 recoveries from this source I cited, however, the Acting Chief Medical Officer Ronan Glynn (shown in the video), stated that there was 264 active cases in Ireland at that time.... On 30 July, 26,027 cases and 1,763 deaths had been confirmed. If you subtract 26,027 (cases) from 1,763 (deaths) and then from 264 (active cases): the total will be 24,000 – meaning the total recoveries figure is 24,000. For 22 April, you saw that the active cases figure on the template chart was 6,669, this is correct because if you go to the 21 April date on the Timeline article, you'll see that 8,377 + 856 people had recovered. On 22 April, a further 631 cases and 49 deaths were reported, bringing the totals to 16,671 cases and 769 deaths. 16,671 (cases) subtract 9,233 (recoveries) subtract 769 (deaths) totals 6,669 active cases. Hi HLHJ, thanks for my first service award!

I like the format shown to the left here, or the Userbox version which also shows a star. Could you put it on my user page? I'm not sure how to show it at the top on the right side.

Adding URLs and fixing dead links also lowers the carbon footprint of Wikipedia users, since they don't have to look for working links via Web Archive etc. See this: Calculating The Carbon Footprint Of A Google Search and Carbonalyser. It would be interesting to see the difference on Carbonalyser for two people opening source material, one person having to search bare citations versus a second person opening direct links.

Thanks for your barnstar too! I appreciate you noticing all the free fulltext URLs I've added/fixed. Do you remember from which edit or article you found my user page and contributions?

I think it was List of unproven methods against COVID-19. I've put both formats on your userpage, with a commented-out demonstration of a third method (which puts all your userboxes in a column on the right). You are also entitled to display a Burba lv3 Ribbon. I hadn't come across that browser add-on, just the manual calculations; thanks! To keep bandwidth down, I find browser firewalls such as uMatrix (learning UI and config takes some effort) or uBlock Origin (low-effort) are quite useful. The trend for simple static websites is also lowering bandwidth, though sadly academic publishers are mostly not really into low-bandwidth hosting yet. HLHJ (talk) 00:32, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

I tried the Carbonalyser addon for fun but later noticed it paused analysis by itself, so I stopped using it.

Thanks, I already use Ublock Origin. Dark Reader, Livemarks, Wayback Machine, EPUBReader, Hoxx VPN Proxy and Invert Colors are also useful addons.

And if you're interested in Linux, I'd recommend Solus Mate, it's rolling release, fast, light and very stable. Might save you a lot of time and hassle from Windows' updates and virus risks.

I agree on "various", changed. I'd never have objected to you changing it, either . When I edited your userpage, which I wouldn't have done without permission, I didn't revert you or mention you in the edit summary, so it makes sense that you got no notification. You can put your userpage on you WP:watchlist if you like. I don't think I've ever used Windows on a computer of mine; I find Linux has a more powerful command line, runs faster and has excellent if informal tech support. PDFs and copyright

I notice you add PDFs to articles. A laudable goal if the PDF is legitimate - but what checks do you do to make sure you are not adding a WP:COPYLINK? This edit[1] for example appears to point to an illicit upload accessed via a student account. Bon courage (talk) 18:35, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I noticed you reverted my edit on John Campbell's page, before leaving this message. I added "Campbell's Physiology Notes" and "Campbell's Pathophysiology Notes" as free access books from Archive.org. And "Campbell's Physiology Notes For Nurses" as a Log In and Borrow book there. Not sure why it should be reverted.

I don't check about copyright, I just add a link to the full research paper or book. Hopefully someone following that page and looking for that paper (Recovery of cytopathogenic agent from chimpanzees with coryza) notices my addition and saves a copy of the PDF.
