Thanks for fixing my bad French. As for "bat la" vs. "part en", the publication itself is inconsistent. The actual print article is titled with "bat la", but the web table of contents has "part en" instead. Someone not using his real name (talk) 20:45, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

I choose the one that make more sense to me in French. Battre la campagne refers to, in military terms, sweeping the countryside to recognize the position and movements of the enemy.
