ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message edit

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:12, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • The limit on the number of emails a user can send per day has been made global instead of per-wiki to help prevent abuse. (T293866)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled edit

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:05, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2022 edit

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2021).

  • Following consensus at the 2021 RfA review, the autopatrolled user right has been removed from the administrators user group; admins can grant themselves the autopatrolled permission if they wish to remain autopatrolled.

  • The functionaries email list (functionaries-en lists.wikimedia.org) will no longer accept incoming emails apart from those sent by list members and WMF staff. Private concerns, apart from those requiring oversight, should be directly sent to the Arbitration Committee.

How we will see unregistered users edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Thank you for the close and the history merge; it looks like it worked. BilledMammal (talk) 04:08, 11 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@BilledMammal: Good to hear, although the next time a history merge is needed I plan to just post it at WP:HISTMERGE and let the experts handle it. :)-- Aervanath (talk) 14:12, 12 January 2022 (UTC) Cheers,Reply

I nominated another Ancient redirect edit

Due to your intervention at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2021_November_26#GREEK_OLD_CALENDARISTS, I think you may be interested in knowing I have nominated another very old redirect at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2021_December_29#DefinitionofBibleTerms. Veverve (talk) 14:52, 29 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you, I've contributed.Aervanath (talk) 20:28, 30 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
I have norminated another one at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 January 12#History of Christianity/Jesus, pre-4th century Christianity, and syncretism. Veverve (talk) 21:41, 12 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Bug in your close edit

In closing at Talk:1912 World Hard Court Championships – Mixed Doubles, you wrote "Consensus was against the secondary proposal to move to sentence case after the dash". The secondary proposal was for all lowercase after the dash; sentence case was the main proposal. Please amend to clarity. Thanks for closing. Dicklyon (talk) 00:00, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Also, rather than "consensus was against", it might be more accurate to say there was no consensus for the secondary proposal (it was near 50/50 iirc, but I haven't counted recently). Dicklyon (talk) 00:01, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Maybe by "sentence case after the dash" you meant as if the dash were in a sentence. Then I'd agree. Still, a bit of clarification might be in order. Dicklyon (talk) 03:33, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks for letting me know. I've updated.-- Aervanath (talk) 20:42, 21 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

One hit wonders? edit

You really - I mean REALLY? - think that neither Ellinoora nor Maustetytör deserve a page on Wikipedia? I think in a few years we'll all be laughing at your deletions on December 2021 :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Morewilling (talkcontribs) 02:28, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi, @Morewilling:, not at all, you're more than welcome to create those articles! What I deleted were simply redirects to List of number-one albums of 2019 (Finland). They were deleted as a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2021_December_17#Artists_pointing_to_lists_of_number-one_hits/albums. Specifically, they were deleted to encourage editors to create articles with those titles! If you have verifiable information about these artists, please create the articles! Wall St. Whiz Kid RfD edit

Can you provide your reasoning for closing WP:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 January 12#Wall St. Whiz Kid as Delete? Jay (talk) 06:46, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Jay:, I've expanded my rationale there, such as it was.-- Aervanath (talk) 19:20, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
One vote said it is vague and one said it is ambiguous. I said to keep unless it is proved that it can refer to other people also. No explanation was offered whether it refers to other people or why it is ambiguous. How can this be a consensus of ambiguity? Jay (talk) 06:53, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

God of War edit

Can you provide your reasoning for deleting God of War (2021 video game) at the WP:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 January 12#Untitled God of War sequel? Jay (talk) 06:52, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Jay: I've added my reasoning there.-- Aervanath (talk) 19:29, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
You mentioned inaccuracy as a summary of the discussion. As inaccuracy can mean a lot of things, and it was not a word anyone in the discussion used, can you elaborate on what you mean by it. Specifically, does it have to do with the WP:CRYSTAL opinions? Jay (talk) 07:00, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

The existence of minus eight edit

Good evening sir, It has recently come to my attention that the number minus eight (-8) has been deleted. I can't see any reason for such exesive measures to be taken against the acknowledgement of a number. If you could be kind enough to stop deleting the article regarding the number minus eight, in order for the general public to gain insight on its existence, I would be grateful. Sincerely yours, Supporter of the number minus eight — Preceding unsigned comment added by Minus two exists! (talkcontribs) 20:29, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
