Blocking edit

I originally started out editing on Wikipedia making what I thought was constructive edits. I soon moved onto ridiculously stupid vandalism and other ridiculous edits. As my opinion of Wikipedia at the time was just very low. I thought it was edited by a whole bunch of hooligans that had nothing better to do. My opinions have since change and I now always ;) make constructive contributions on here. Also I was blocked for sockpuppetry. The other account was LukesLegends or something along those lines. It wasn't my account but I knew who the person was. Something came up a while later about some other 'LukeLegends 2' account which I'm not real sure about who's it is. But seems like it might be the same person. Not sure as I'm not with contact with him anymore.

Anyway ... Now I take wiki a lot more seriously and want to become the best editor I can be. By the Way I think the edits below were the ones I made when blocked, kind regards, Aaroncrick (talk) 12:17, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

The census was for statistics in 2006 not 2007 as stated.

Launceston article edit

Bidgee downgraded the article because the article is not in as good a condition as it used to be. This is most likely due to changes in the article in the last few months. More information is not necessarily better information. Too many tables and lists are not recommended, and sources for new additions are preferred. Take a look at Manual of style, Writing better articles, Guide to layout. In the specific case of the Launceston, Tasmania article, check out WP:WikiProject Cities, and look at some of the "Feature articles" or "Good articles" in that project. That is the kind of format, layout and content that editors should aim for. -- Chuq (talk) 10:19, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

hmmm still believe that it's a bit harsh Aaroncrick (talk) 10:23, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The only real answer is to make the article "better" - which may mean more careful selection of information that goes in as much as just adding stuff, even if it is cited. I think the article is too long rather than too short just now. And we ought to have fewer citations based on web sites (NOT on the whole good sources - in fact some are really bad) and more on the kinds of source we residents could access with a visit to the Northern Regional Library -(OK I am as remiss here as anyone). The history bit needs cites - and the information about Launceston's situational drawbacks (drainage problems, liability to flooding, landslips, smog etc.) needs to be restored with better cites. If you've tried discussing this directly with Bidgee without getting anywhere, and you badly want to improve the article's rating, then look at the helpful pages Chuq mentions above and work towards a real improvement - deserving a better rating is after all even more important than getting one.--Soundofmusicals (talk) 23:19, 28 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think that C is about right for this article at the moment. Its not yet as sharp as Hobart which has a map, Education and Demographics sections, and has superior prose. It has improved considerably though and is not far off. Keep up the good work. I'd probably give it a B with a decent and properly licensed map. Moondyne 07:20, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

September 2008 edit

Can you please stop deleting everything! If something does not have a reference try to find one or give 48 hours for someone to find one. You seem to be too busy trying to get everything perfect. Valuable information is being deleted. Yes half of it it correctly done so but the other half is just unconstructive edits. Aaroncrick (talk) 10:17, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Anyone can edit so you can't tell any editor to stop removing unsourced (including unreliable sourced) content since it doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Bidgee (talk) 10:21, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well maybe it does. Everything should be sourced but make a note of it in the discussion. Talk about it first. Care should also be taken in deleting information that is obviously correct and has yet to be sourced. For example on the Launceston Airport Page, it was announced on the news that another flight will be added to the Melbourne to Launceston route. I didn't have time to add a reference and was going to do so, if no other editor did. I was suprised to see next time i checked it was deleted. You didn't even bother to look for a source or mention it in the discussion. Aaroncrick (talk) 10:27, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I hope you don't mind me interjecting here. Bidgee used the edit summery to indicate a reason for removal; that it was unsourced. It didn't just randomly combust. If you didn't have time to add a WP:Reliable source, why didn't you wait till you've located a WP:RS and then add it. I applaud you for your effort and your contributions just Wikipedia:Assume good faith when dealing with editors. Mvjs (talk) 10:37, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
"Care should also be taken in deleting information that is obviously correct and has yet to be sourced." If it's correct then it should be easy to source but just because you feel it's obviously correct doesn't mean others feel the same. As for the removal the editor who does so doesn't have to look for sources since it's up to those who add content here. Also Blogs and forums can't be added as sources (See WP:RS). Bidgee (talk) 10:32, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Where have blogs and forums been added as sources? Aaroncrick (talk) 10:33, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

[1] Tiger Airways will add another Launceston to Melbourne service, on December 15. Wordpress is a bloghost. Bidgee (talk) 10:36, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's like talking to a brick wall to you. You have just deleted the Accidents and incidents part out of airport article becuase it's noted in the Melbourne Airport page. You have also no discussed it! You don't listen to what is said and you just carry on doing what you do best. I don't know if it's arrogence or vandalism or what? Aaroncrick (talk) 10:45, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please remain civil and assume good faith. Accidents and incidents had no relevance to the article since it happened near Melbourne and not Launceston Airport, No discussion needed for the removal. Bidgee (talk) 10:49, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Stop it with the Please remain civil and assume good faith thing. It's getting annoying. How about "Please make appropriate edits and slow down with deleting everything". Thankyou Aaroncrick (talk) 10:52, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Riverside High School (Launceston) edit

A tag has been placed on Riverside High School (Launceston) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Superflewis (talk) 08:04, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The speedy deletion has been declined and the article expanded a little to make sure that it 'sticks'. Kind regards, --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 09:18, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Trivia edit

A reference absolutely does not make something notable. A long standing Wikipedia policy is that trivia sections get tagged, generally because it either a) indicates the fact is so trivial and unimportant that it cannot be incorporated into the prose of the article and therefore is unworthy of inclusion; or b) the editor/s are too lazy to write it into some prose. I know what I'd be doing if I wanted the article to improve, but you need to decide for yourself which of these those 3 tidbits are, and deal with them accordingly. . Moondyne 07:37, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the advice. Aaroncrick (talk) 08:27, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Country Club Tasmania edit

A tag has been placed on Country Club Tasmania requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

Bidgee (talk) 09:39, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please assume good faith in your dealings with other editors, which you did not on User talk:Bidgee. Assume that they are here to improve rather than harm Wikipedia. Bidgee (talk) 12:01, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I second this. Country Club was already speedily deleted a few weeks ago. Michellecrisp (talk) 14:20, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Why? That stupid! Aaroncrick (talk) 22:22, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

How is it stupid? Wikipedia has a strict policy of notability, as any encyclopaedia would. Not every little country club should have an article in an encyclopaedia. Mvjs (talk) 01:11, 20 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add content without citing reliable sources, as you did to Tasmania. Before making potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Contact me if you need assistance adding references. Thank you. Copyright problems edit

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Image:Launceston Seaport.jpg, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.tamarpulpmill.info/seaport.jpg. As a copyright violation, Image:Launceston Seaport.jpg appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Image:Launceston Seaport.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:

 • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Image:Launceston Seaport.jpg and send an email with the message to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
 • If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Image:Launceston Seaport.jpg with a link to where we can find that note.
 • If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Image:Launceston Seaport.jpg.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. Thank you.

Aaron, I truly and honestly thought you had got over this stage. I think you are a good editor and it would be a shame to loose you. Wikipedia can not accept the vast majority of images found on the web. I am certain that administrators will have no hesitation in dishing out a block. You've been warned about this repeatedly. I hope you will take this on board. MvjsTalking 08:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
I didn't just get a random image off the net, It was from Wikipedia Commons and i just cut a small section off the picture? What's wrong with that? I don't know all the rules so i may be mistaken. .I Found it here Aaroncrick (talk) 09:24, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the images description i noticed that it said it had been uploaded from another site although it also says "(All images of the Tamar valley were taken by the author and can be used without permisssion for any purpose)". So doesn't that mean what i have done is ok? Aaroncrick (talk) 09:26, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, you are most certainly right. As I have indicated on my talk page, your source information on Image:Launceston Seaport.jpg implies that you created this work entirely by yourself. Hi Aaron, in your sandbox you have a link to Launceston, which is a dabpage I keep an eye on. You need to link to Launceston, Tasmania for the place you mean. Best wishes, DuncanHill (talk) 03:08, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Peer review edit

I am pretty busy right now - will get to the peer review tomorrow. Sorry to take so long. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:23, 15 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

B class seems fine to me, though I do not usually assess sport articles. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 12:14, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Launceston Copyedit edit

Hi Aaron. I've given Launceston a decent copyedit and cleanup, as you requested. I don't think the article satisfies the good article criteria just yet though. I would suggest that you source another copyedit or two before nominating the article for good article status. Congratulations on all your work on the article so far. York Park rating edit

No where in the article's talk page of the peer review do I see anyone stating that it should be B-class other then yourself. The article is still be class since the article still needs work on the content, sources and I suggest that you read Reader's experience and Editing suggestions WikiProject article progress grading scheme also someone who doesn't have a interest in the article (Since you have largely edited the article) to rate it. Bidgee (talk) 04:59, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please link to them then (I've just read Ruhrfisch's comment above) as I'm only going by what I see on the article's talk page and review. Now Ruhrfisch said it seems not that it should be and have said they they do not usually assess sport articles. I've mark the issues in the article that needs fixing once those are fixed I would see no issues for it to be B-class. Bidgee (talk) 05:12, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Google Earth edit

I noticed a question on User:Mvjs talkpage. Google Earth images can't be uploaded on Wikipedia as the images are copyrighted. Bidgee (talk) 08:51, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wasn't sure, thanks. Aaroncrick (talk) 08:54, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
The best place to get satellite imagery that can be put on Wikipedia is from NASA World Wind. An example of it is the runway layout image of Melbourne Airport. Definitely not as high resolution as Google Earth but it's better than nothing. MvjsTalking 09:29, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that. Aaroncrick (talk) 09:38, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

File:UTAS.jpg edit

Where does it state GNU licensing? Seems copyrighted to me. Bidgee (talk) 10:03, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

So Google sketchup images can't be used either? I thought you must be able to because it says you can download the model and edit it yourself. Aaroncrick (talk) 10:17, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

File:Inveresk precinct.jpg edit

Can I ask how you took this image? I'm always a little suspicious of self-made shots from above. J Milburn (talk) 11:11, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I didn't, although i was rushing and didn't clearly state how i got the image. (Fixed now). What do you mean your suspicious? Aaroncrick (talk) 11:21, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

York Park edit

Damn you with your York Park! :-P I can't believe I'm researching and writing things for an AFL article - I thought Hell would freeze over first. I don't even know how I stumbled across the thing in the first place, though now I realise it was probably through the AU 200GA portal. I would be up for doing the copy edit, but I have difficulty editing on screen. I prefer to print the article and edit that way but I won't have access to a printer for a few days. I'll give it a go though, if you want.

If you are in the GA-helping mood, please also feel free to swing by Canning Dam - another GA nominee I've done work on, and Yarra Bend Asylum when it's finished. Yarra Bend is currently mostly in my sandbox though I'm hoping to finish it in the next week so we can get 200GAs by Australia Day. Shelbypark (talk) 07:59, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

A copyedit would be fantastic! :) Aaroncrick (talk) 08:16, 31 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
