Hey Alex! Just testing this out! I think it will take me a while to get a hold of all of these technical things! Jj.Metherell (talk) 13:06, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'm not very tech savvy myself so we will be in the same boat together. Look forward to working on the project with you!APRenaud (talk) 13:19, 27 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Uploading photos edit

Hi APRenaud. There are a few things you can do:

  • Don't assume any photo you find (even from government websites) are freely licensed. For example, in the US the creative works of federal employees doing their job (e.g. photos, diagrams) are public domain, but many state governments license them differently. Agencies in countries other than the US may hold or release copyright to works as well.
  • Thankfully, any copyright on the original proclamation has passed (see here for a template you might use). Some museums may claim that photographs of 2d works (documents like this and art) are themselves copyrightable, so if you find the image online, it may not have a compatible license. If so, you can still upload it as a scan. These template links are all on commons because that is where you'll want to upload the photo.

What we can do is work together to find a photo and the right license and you can upload it with the information. Once we've done that you can repeat the process for other public domain or freely licensed works. Adam (Wiki Ed) (talk) 15:28, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
