Your edits edit

I find your edit history interesting. You're an IP that clearly knows Wikipedia policy well, and your edits are really fast but substantial. That's all. 70.163.208.142 (talk) 21:32, 6 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Biography Subject Response to your edits edit

Hi thanks for sorting out the Wikipedia entry about myself. I received an automatic alert. I appreciate your efforts as it has been a bit of a dog's dinner and, being the subject, something I have mixed feelings about! I have never edited it myself but note that it mentions some obscure stuff whilst leaving out more notable things and has errors. Editors also seem to be worried about verifiable sources. With those things in mind here are a few links to reliable sources covering expeditions to the greater ranges: https://www.alpinejournal.org.uk/cgi-bin/search.cgi?zoom_sort=0&zoom_xml=0&zoom_query=%22Crag+Jones%22&zoom_per_page=100&zoom_and=1

and http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12201220000 http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12200233801 http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/13201214170 http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12200035102 http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12199225401 http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12199726903 http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12201019802 http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12199726903 http://publications.americanalpineclub.org/articles/12200029203

On the Everest front it was the 5th British ascent of the N.Ridge and unguided.

I also presented several television series and programs on other climbing and mountaineering expeditions for S4C in Wales. I don't know if those count as verifiable sources? I also have numerous links to magazine and newspaper articles for rock and ice climbing activities etc. If any of this is of interest you can always contact me. All the best, Caradoc 'Crag' Jones. PS It was news to me that my "climbing career was long over"! That will amuse my climbing partners. I can assure you I am still very actively climbing both in the UK and further afield. Wikididit (talk) 14:02, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that Wikididit (talk · contribs), and that is very helpful. I was cleaning out a lot of climbing articles and came across yours. I was skeptical at first but then found enough good sources to stabilise it. The biggest mistake people make with Wikipedia WP:BLPs is adding in tangential or non-notable material in the hope that it makes the article more "notable". However, small articles that are well referenced can have rock-solid notability, however, larger badly referenced articles can be junk (i.e. Peter John Watson).
A BLP is not an indiscriminate collection of things, but rather a more focused collection of things that are notable and verifiable - otherwise it is junk. Good that you don't edit your own article, but do add material on the Talk Page (or make comments), particularly if something material is left out. And also, is your name "Caradog" or "Caradoc" (or both, per the article). 78.18.228.191 (talk) 14:12, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Note, that if you are up for it, it is okay for you to upload your own photograph (you will be asked to waive any copyright to it for good) which can then be added to the article? 78.18.228.191 (talk) 14:13, 22 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

About your votes and closures on WT:VA4 and WT:VA5 edit

Actually you can not commit such, since you are not an autoconfirmed user.--RekishiEJ (talk) 13:27, 29 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

As the rules for closing are precisely defined (at the top of the pages), there is no judgment required, and thus an IP can close them. Unfortunately, because of my situation, I cannot have a WP account, but I have as many edits (and experience) as any established editor. I don't xclose AfDs or RfCs, but the vital lists are heavily backlogged, so am happy to help. 78.18.228.191 (talk) 15:15, 29 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
But you still should not cast any votes in talk pages of vital article lists. By the way, why not just be a registered user? Being such makes you able to create and move articles.--RekishiEJ (talk) 07:43, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Because of the technology I use to access Wikipedia, I cannot log into online accounts, and therefore I have to edit as an IP. It does have big drawbacks. 78.18.228.191 (talk) 09:09, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Which technology is the one you use to access Wikipedia? Please be as specific as possible. --RekishiEJ (talk) 15:18, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi User:RekishiEJ, thank you for your interest. It is through my work system, which I think is their own customized platform. I don't want to say too much more about it. It is pretty secure but doesn't allow staff to go through a "login" type screen, without specific pre-clearance, which is not available for WP. 78.18.228.191 (talk) 08:57, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, you can use your personal computer in your home instead.--RekishiEJ (talk) 11:27, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
