Reflexivity

"A reflexive pronoun is a pronoun that is preceded by the noun or pronoun to which it refers" - te is only a reflexive pronoun if preceded by the pronoun to which it refers - i.e. tu, say in tu te laves where the finite verb is se laver. That it has the same form as the normal direct object pronoun in the sentence je te lave (where the finite verb is laver, not se laver) is coincidental - it's not preceded by the object to which it refers, so it's not reflexive. ""me", "se", "te", "nous", and "vous" are the french reflexive pronouns" - me is reflexive when used with je, te is reflexive when used with tu, etc. me is not always reflexive - when used with any pronoun other than je it is just a direct object pronoun, as it is not referring to the preceding noun. Read this table here French_personal_pronouns#French_personal_pronouns the te in je te lave is taken from the direct object column because it is a direct object, not a reflexive object.

That is exactly its definition: from our article here: a reflexive verb is a verb whose ... subject and the direct object ... are the same. Or the OED: reflexive, (5.) Gram. and Linguistics. Also notice that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period.
