May 2024 edit

  Hello, I'm Sjö. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Sjö (talk) 10:56, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

  Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living (or recently deceased) persons, as you did to Andrea Clevenger. Please note that an arrest or a charge of a crime does not mean that the person is declared guilty of that crime. Sjö (talk) 11:05, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sorry User:Sjö, vandalism wasn't my intention. I was just trying to fix up true crime-related content on this website that I got really finnicky about. Apologies if I caused you any stress. I just tend to believe victims when it comes to rape, as falsely reported rapes are rare (2%). I wasn't trying to spread disinformation or misinformation. 218.214.102.224 (talk) 11:12, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I understand. It's just that Wikipedia takes sourcing and personal integrity very seriously, including those convicted for various crimes.Sjö (talk) 11:23, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Adding your own conclusions about what rape is goes against WP:SYNTH. See also WP:BLPCRIME. Sjö (talk) 13:49, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I didn't come to my own conclusions, I used the definitions from Wikipedia. 218.214.102.224 (talk) 11:45, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

  Please stop adding unreferenced or poorly referenced biographical content, especially if controversial, to articles or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Tony and Julie Wadsworth. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. What did I add to the article of Tony and Julie Wadsworth did I add that was unreferenced or poorly referenced, because this is annoying. It literally says that Tony lured kids to have sex with his wife, what part of it did I make up?
I don't want to sound aggressive or standoffish, Lard Almighty, but it would actually help if you could guide me on how I can conduct myself in a way that is acceptable on this website.
Thank you! 218.214.102.224 (talk) 11:31, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

  You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy by inserting unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory or otherwise controversial content into an article or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Pamela Joan Rogers. TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 11:28, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

"On February 4, 2005, Rogers was charged with 15 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and 13 counts of statutory rape stemming from a three-month relationship with a teenage boy who was her student. On August 12, 2005, Rogers pleaded no contest to four charges of sexual battery by an authority figure as part of a deal with the prosecution."
This is a quote from the Wikipedia article. My conclusions of what is considered rape I don't pull out of thin air, but I get them from this website.
I am not trying to goof around or make light of serious/sensitive/controversial subject matter, I am simply putting things into their appropriate categories based on how they are described on this website.
I get why you have strict polices when it comes to inserting unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory or otherwise controversial content into articles, but it literally says in the article about Pamela Joan Rogers she had sex with an underage student, which if you look at the article about Statutory rape, it says it's unlawful sex with a minor (what Pamela Joan Rogers).
Also, I didn't add anything. All I did was put it in two categories. I didn't change anything about the article, I didn't write anything new, I just in the [appropriate] category based on the information provided by this website.
I don't know what the problem is TheGreatestLuvofAll, that would be great. It is really annoying me how confusing this is. Just at least, point out where I went wrong. 218.214.102.224 (talk) 11:44, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Per WP:BLPCRIME it can be used unless a conviction as been secured. If the person had a conviction, you can add it, but it triggered the edit filter which caught my attention as libelous or defamatory. But if not an conviction, the info cannot be used. TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 12:19, 16 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
It does say on the article that she got convicted 218.214.102.224 (talk) 03:58, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
So can you revert it back to my edit? 218.214.102.224 (talk) 04:55, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
You can add the categories back. TheGreatestLuvofAll (talk) 10:39, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you TheGreatestLuvofAll.
And sorry if I came across as rude, I was just a bit frustrated and confused about the warnings in regards to biographies of living persons. I wasn't trying to slander or defame anyone. 218.214.102.224 (talk) 12:10, 17 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics edit

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
