About me and my guiding principles on Wikipedia edit

Whenever I am on Wikipedia, that means I am on a break from my real life....

My passion on Wikipedia is to counter systemic bias, particularly on an aspect excerpted from Wikipedia below:

Wikipedians are people who have available free time to participate in the project. Viewpoints of individuals who are focused on other projects, e.g. their work or life, will tend to be underrepresented.

So to be consistent with my mission, I can't hang out too often in the Wikipedia..;). Otherwise I will become part of the very group whose view I am trying to balance out.

I have seen too many articles written with good intentions by these so called Wikipedians following all the 'rules' and guidelines to the letter but completely missing the point of providing meaningful information about a particular subject to the readers. Adding up hard facts and well sourced data does not equate to a meaningful information. Not all facts are equal. So I am NOT interested in making an article a WP:FA or WP:GA for that matter. An article can be an FA but turns out to be very bland and does not really give a sense of how big/how important/how unique/ the subject is. To me when an article does not give me a good sense about the subject, then it is a garbage in the sea of information that readers have to manage in their short attention span.

For example, 'School X has 9872340 students' does not say much to the readers. Saying that school X has the largest student body in country Y instead does say something about the school. Now mind you these hard core literalist/barnstar seeker Wikipedians [1] might not always agree with me. That's why I am here: to challenge them whenever I can...;)

Footnotes edit

  1. ^ Some of them are computer-geek loners having too much time on hand defending their menial points days in and days out ONLINE- heavily armed with the rules in Wikipedias just as obnoxious lawyers do in real live. In some instances they take the issues too personally-this is their only place to show their otherwise oppressed existence afterall. To the point that one of them even stalked me through her watchlist!!
