Stephen A. Wilkus lives with his his wife in New Jersey where he works as CTO at Spectrum Financial Partners, LLC. He graduated in 1981 with a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois and a BS degree in Physics in 1979. Wilkus took a minor in Philosophy and Anthropology with special interest in the philosophy and history of science.
Stephen Wilkus' thesis work was on Surface Acoustic Wave devices, electronic filters used in televisions and cellular systems. He developed simulation software and designed many such devices while at Andersen Laboratories in Bloomfield, CT (now Micro Networks), RF Monolithics in North Dallas, Tx and AT&T Bell Labs in Merrimack Valley, MA which he joined in 1986. Stephen was transferred to AT&T's wireless Chief Architect's office in Holmdel, NJ in 1991 where he worked on early PCS spectrum auction deliberations with the FCC, early meetings of the IEEE802.11 standards work and the development of an Electronic Price Label system using RF modulated backscatter technology (RFID).
Stephen continued working on wireless products through divestiture of Lucent Technologies from AT&T in 1996 and later with Alcatel-Lucent. Stephen worked in the Forward Looking Work organization in Alcatel-Lucent's wireless business unit and later as a director in the Wireless Chief Technology Office (CTO). In January 2014 Stephen left Alcatel-Lucent to become the CTO of Spectrum Financial Partners, LLC, an investment and strategy company focused on wireless opportunities for both broadcasters and mobile operators.
He has published several journal and symposium papers and has been an invited speaker in the fields of Radio Frequency electronics, wireless communications, wireless standards and regulatory aspects of radio spectrum use. He has been an invited panel member of several workshops at the FCC, COFETEL, IFT, IWPC among others. Stephen holds over 8 patents and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Stephen has a long-standing interested in the Learning curve, the Logistic function and low-cost manufacturing methods and trends such as the cost trends of mobile phones and cellular systems. He and his wife have two children who all enjoy international travel and thoughtful correspondence.
