Yidi Bialostozky (Hebrew: יודי ביאלוסטוצקי), born Yehuda Aryeh Leib Bialostozky in 1998, is a contemporary Jewish singer, songwriter, and entertainer.[1]
Early life
editBialostozky was born in 1998 in Jerusalem, Israel, and grew up in the Gerrer community in Toronto, Canada. His music is inspired by the liturgical music of the famous Gerrer composer Yankel Talmud, which Bialostozky was exposed to as a child in the Gerrer Shtieble.[1]
Musical career
editYidi began singing at the age of 20, releasing his first music video, a live rendition of "Meine Tefillin" by Avraham Fried (written by Lipa Schmeltzer), in December 2019.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Bialostozky released the song "Shabbos Hee," which was recorded by musicians quarantining at home. He later participated in a collaboration with several Jewish musicians, including Avraham Fried, Mordechai Shapiro, Gad Elbaz, and others, to sing "Someday" by Mordechai Ben David in support of Chai Lifeline.[2]
In 2023, he released a new rendition of "The Rebbe Is Gezunt," an old Russian melody turned into a Hasidic chant by Chabad chassidim. His debut album, Shishi, was released in 2024 to favorable reviews and was produced by Mendy Hershkowitz under the Sonic Duo label.
In April 2024, Yidi performed at "The Ultimate Farbreng" concert, a men's-only event benefitting Shai Graucher's Standing Together organization. The concert featured prominent artists like Beri Weber, Lipa Schmeltzer, and others.
Personal life
editBialostozky is the grandson of Rabbi Menachem Eliezer Moses, a former member of the Israeli Knesset and Deputy Minister of Education. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife and children, and serves as a chazzan (cantor) during the high holidays in Jewish communities in Miami and New York.
