The City and County of St. Canard is the largest city in Calisota, as well as the 12th most populous in the United States, with an estimate 2006 population of 846,350. St. Canard is considered a major world city. Located mainly on the peninsula of the Audubon Bay, the city is home to some of the world’s most recognizable skyscrapers.

St. Canard is a major world capital for business, finance, fashion, entertainment, media outlets, performance venues, international corporations and financial markets. St. Canard is home to StarTeam, the St. Canard Stock Exchange, and the Mallard Square, one of America’s largest media districts.

St. Canard is sometimes referred to as “Duck City”. The city’s name originates the Calisota duck-based city naming goal, the name is form the French word for duck.

History edit

St. Canard was founded in 1825 by a small group of Duckburgians whom did not wish to live under the reign of Cornelius Coot. Arriving at the Audubon Bay and the peninsula, they settled on the peninsula small town called Canardia. The town quickly became inhabited by more travelers arriving in Calisota, as it was east of Duckburg. By 1835, the city had more than 5000 residents, which was over half of the population of Calisota.

St. Canard’s economical success came quickly. The Duckburgians, especially Coot, saw a possibility to use the Audubon River to effectively ship goods to and from the city. Thus, he had a large seaport built at the east side of the Audubon Bay. The city was soon renamed St. Canard in 1852, due to the blessing some believe it brought to Calisota.

In 1875 St. Canard started to host major Calisota companies. The Sea Company of St. Canard expanded onto the north side of the peninsula, creating another shipping department. Many banks began to arrive and open on the peninsula. Architecture in St. Canard became stunning. High-rises as tall as 20 stories started being built on the peninsula to host offices. By 1900, the city hosted more than 200 of its own companies. In 1905, several years after the Killmotor Hill battles in Duckburg, Scrooge McDuck decided to bring his business to St. Canard. His order was to construct a 400 foot tower on the outer north end of the peninsula. The building was complete by 1908. McDuck Industries moved into the building in 1909 to host their corporate offices. They also established 13 factories in the eastern part of St. Canard to produce goods such as glass and lumber.

In 1912 St. Canard saw a major renovation. The city’s population was around 500000, one hundred times what it had been in 1852. The growing population demanded a greater amount of commerce in the city, which demanded more office space. AT&T had recently established an office in St. Canard and wanted more space. In April 1912 AT&T proposed a skyscraper idea to the St. Canard Design Bureau. The officials at the STDB decided that they would go ahead and allow the team to design a [[]]skyscraper. By October 1912 the design was ready. The tower would be built at 5520 13th and was to be known as Telestar, and was to stand at 600 feet. Calisota governor Richard Buyur approved the project in less then a month, with the mayor’s approval preceding it by several weeks. The project began in January 1913 and ended in April 1914. The building was then the tallest on the west coast. It still remains, however not one of the tallest.

Business moved along with 7 skyscrapers to come, starting in 1920 and ending at around 1937. Then, one more project was proposed. In 1938 the Canardian government saw a very high traffic use of the ferries across the Audubon River and bay, as well as a 99% increase in bridge use, up from 10 years before. They felt that a new bridge be built. However, the project to replace the bridge was canceled. Instead, two new bridges were added on either side for US 9 and US 552. The bridge project was, however, called upon again in 1952, when Interstate 12 was to have a new route across the Audubon River and straight through the peninsula. The bridge design was created by the St. Canard Design Bureau, called Audubon Bay Bridge, and was built in 1952-1953. Today, it is a toll bridge with the largest bridge traffic in Calisota. The old Brooklyn Bridge was demolished in August 1953.

In 1958, two of the largest Canardian skyscrapers were added. 4022 19th and 2022 Warner were the two buildings added. Today, they stand as the second and fourth tallest buildings in St. Canard. 2022 Warner then hosted McDuck, 4022 19th then hosted St. Canard Design Bureau. Both were designed by the St. Canard Design Bureau. In 1962, 4719 17th, the current tallest building in St. Canard and in Calisota, was constructed. In 1969, the Inverness Twins were added to the skyline, with Sony and Citibank moving in. The next buildings constructed were 4520 18th and 8895 Brisbane, two 800-foot skyscrapers. Today, they are known as Trade Center St. Canard (STC). The name Trade Center Downtown St. Canard was adopted in 1970 and is still used today.

In 1970, the population of St. Canard was 400,000, there were over 500 companies which called St. Canard their home, and for the first time in history, St. Canard became larger than Duckburg. A title that Duckburg would never regain. St. Canard saw the economical growth of 1971, when more than 100 companies opened in St. Canard in that year which gained International status. In 1973, the St. Canard Stock Exchange was opened to support the Canardian companies with a local stock exchange.

In 1975 the government of St. Canard expanded the city’s 74 neighborhoods to 100 by expanding the city an additional 50 square miles south. By the end of 1977, the population of St. Canard was around 550,000. 75% of those people lived in the west side neighborhoods, while 18% lived in Trade Center Downtown, and 7% lived in the east side neighborhoods of St. Canard.

In 1992, St. Canard mayor Edward Ellison wrote a letter to Calisota governor Brendan Wilson expressing his concern for St. Canard's lack of an international airport. He wrote that while St. Canard was a huge business city, it has been demanding to have it's own international passenger transport. The only existanat Canardan Airport then was Webber Airport, a large domestic airport, serving as a Continental hub. Wilson's reply stated that, indeed, an airport would be critical to St. Canard's and the state's economy. Thus, he created a megaproject to achieve it. The project was called Audubon International, with the airport's name to St. Canard International Airport. Construction began in 1993 and the airport opened in 1996, four million dollars over budget. Continental decided not to host a hub at the airport anymore, Delta however did. Webber Airport now serves General Aviation aircraft.

In 1981, the largest St. Canard-based company opened. Computers Incorporated Corporation was founded by Turnald Jenson and Jimmy Donal in May 1981. The company later rose to be Computers Incorporated Corporation International in 1984. In 1985, they bought all of the office space in 4719 17th, which was then to be called Comp Inc Plaza. Comp Inc gave way to the St. Canard District of Software, which existed from 1986 through 2005. It included some of the largest companies in St. Canard. In 2005, it was replaced by StarTeam. Comp Inc merged with Seattle’s Alpha Integrated to form Alpha Integrated Corporation International, leading to the rename of 4719 17th to Alpha Integrated Centre.

Between the years of 1988 through 1991 there is a legend called ‘The Legend of Darkwing Duck’ which tells of a ‘masked mallard’ capturing Canardian criminals. St. Canard’s criminals really did get captured immensely during that time. They would arrive at jails and police stations anonymously, occasionally with a note from “Darkwing Duck”. Some have even reported seeing him. An abandoned headquarters were found atop Audubon Bay Bridge.

In 1996, St. Canard was reported as the United State’s second most trafficked city by business traveler, New York City being the first.

In 1998, the city achieved what was called the “Gold Age” when billionaire’s started rapidly appearing. This was due to the increase in size of Canardian companies, all of which traded on the St. Canard Stock Exchange.

In the 2000s, the city has been in it’s brightest time. In 2002 Ultra Bridge was built across the Audubon River, at the north end. In 2004, a Billionaire’s Club opened in St. Canard, based at 4410, a tower at the edge center of St. Canard. The club will be the gathering place for many of St. Canard’s 54 billionaires. The club is funded by StarTeam.

Geography edit

St. Canard is situated on the Audubon River at the Audubon Bay. The city’s position allows for much water-based shipping via the Audubon River, which dumps into the Pacific Ocean in southern Calisota. Most of St. Canard is on the Canardian peninsula, a 45-mile peninsula which is cropped by the Audubon River and the Audubon Bay.

St. Canard is located at an elevation of 17 meters (55 ft) and has slight hills at the east, including the 160 meter (520 ft) Blare Hill, through which the Calisota Toll Highway 412 tunnel is dug. The hill has long been looked upon as an un-crossable hill, however one can easily see over the hill from the top floors of one of St. Canard’s [[skyscrapers].

According to the United States Census, the total area of St. Canard is 1290 square kilometers or 493 square miles, with a population of 846,350. The population density is 656 per square kilometer or 1716 per square mile.

Climate edit

St. Canard has a benefited from the Calisotan Mediterranean climate, which passes from California’s. Thus there are mild, wet summers, and warm, dry winters. Unlike Duckburg, it is not situated on the ocean, thus allowing for a bit less fog. However, there is not very much seasonal variation in the temperature—the climate is very stable, year round. The peak of temperature in St. Canard are around 84°F (26°C) in the summer and 20°F (9°C) in the winter, with occasional temperatures below zero, and occasional light snow, due to the hills around. The California Current influences the climate little, outside creating some strong winds blowing from Duckburg into St. Canard. St. Canard is fairly sunny, with an average of 260 clear days, and only 105 cloudy days per year.
